New California COVID Orders: Residents Can Travel No More Than 120 Miles From Their Homes

4-5 minutes

The term ‘California Dream’ used to be commonplace. It used to mean something. Now that term has faded into a tragic joke. From now on the term to describe the Golden State is ‘California Crazy.’

Despite insanely restrictive lockdowns for 10 months, travel restrictions, quarantine requirements, business closures, mask mandates and school closures, California has some of the worst COVID numbers in the nation. The state currently has a total of just over 3,800 COVID fatalities. Of course, in a state of 40 million that is .0095% of the population, but we’re really not allowed to put perspective on COVID-19 numbers these days. That little tidbit was for the curious.

In a state like this one, there is no such thing as policy failure. If a policy isn’t working, we just get more of it.

On Wednesday, the California Department of Public Health announced new “guidance” for people in California who have the nerve to want to wander around their free country. CDPH wants Californians to stay within 120 miles of their residences except for “essential” travel. They also demand those gross “non-essential” travelers don’t come at all, but if they must, then they should quarantine for 10 days. Everyone traveling for anything should also quarantine for 10 days upon return to California.
From the CDPH website:
Amid the current COVID-19 surge, it is imperative that California take steps necessary to curb the spread of COVID-19 and contain new sources of infection. The State is issuing the following recommendations, which supercede the Travel Advisory issued on November 13, 2020 and shall apply prospectively from January 6, 2021:

Non-Essential Travel

1. Except in connection with essential travel, Californians should avoid non-essential travel to any part of California more than 120 miles from one’s place of residence, or to other states or countries. Avoiding travel reduces the risk of virus transmission, including by reducing the risk that new sources of infection and, potentially, new virus strains will be introduced to California.
2. Non-essential travelers from other states or countries are strongly discouraged from entering California, and should adhere to the quarantine procedures set forth in Paragraph 3.

Quarantine Post-Travel

3. All persons arriving in or returning to California from other states or countries, should self-quarantine for 10 days [ii] after arrival, except as necessary to meet urgent critical healthcare staffing needs or to otherwise engage in emergency response. Additionally, this recommendation does not apply to individuals who routinely cross state or country borders for essential travel [iii].

A Local Health Officer may determine if and when the situation within the Local Health Offficer’s jurisdiction warrants measures that are more restrictive than this statewide order, and retains authority to implement such measures.
While there is no doubt that California is suffering a COVID-19 surge, the “solutions” to the surges have all so far been completely useless. Perhaps the solutions don’t lie in restricting free, healthy citizens, but in bulking up the healthcare system, focusing on treatments and vaccinations and educating the public about safe practices.

At this point the onslaught of “guidances” and orders and closures and lectures from Warden Governor Newsom has created a numbness among an exhausted constituency. Good, healthy, law-abiding taxpayers are being treated as the enemy, instead of the virus.

Newsom needs to start arresting people for moving about freely – which he knows he cannot do – or shut up.[/I]

I am not sure you could even get out of the state in some cases. Heck isn't Riverside County larger than that?

Honestly, I would not have a problem if they closed the California border. I am in Arizona, where we have a huge COVID problem right now. The people from California come to the Colorado river and spread their germs up and down the river, particularly in Lake Havasu and Bullhead City. They are drunk, wreck their boats, no concern about social distancing, tear everything up and then go back to California. This past summer it was so bad parks and rec limited visitors to the parks and at one point limited entrance to only AZ people.

We plan on going to the coast to the ER early tomorrow. Dear hubby severely injured his shoulder runner wood through the planer a few days ago, he did not want to go in but is now in much more severe pain. It is just under the 120 mile drive limit. We learned after my ER visit last year to not tell them we came from out of the county. Buttoning up the home place for a few day stay and praying for a safe drive Tuesday. A big storm is coming in so the drive will be wet and windy. He finally let me put a sling on his injured arm today.

CHP can't possibly handle issuing citations. Have you seen the highways in L.A. or other big cities in California. Thousands of cars on the roadways. It will not be enforced.

In southern CA there are people who commute further than 120 miles each way. Usually high net worth types going from the Palm Desert area to LA. Is Newscum gonna put them all out of work?

Riverside Co is not that big, although it's larger than Orange Co. It's lovely San Berdoooo county that is enormous- the largest in the US.

The right to travel and egress and ingress across state lines is one thing our founders thought was important enough to write it into our first constitution and it still enforceable to this day. They cannot restrict travel.

As a native Californian (don't be cruel, I think we're as messed up here as most of you probably do), I must say I haven't heard anything about this new...what...rule? How in the name of all that is sane is anyone going to know how far a person travels from their home? Now, I tend to stick pretty close to home anyway, but this sounds unenforceable to me...scratches head!

Well
Good
Oklahoma is well outside that range
Speaking of Oklahoma,
Wife went by the feed store in our little community, today, and they told her that the super walmart
in Checotah was closed. They had 60 people (employees) test positive for covid.
That's all the info they had.
We have had very few cases in the county before this.

I’m in far Northern California and I can tell you no one here is going to follow this “recommendation” from our self-centered governor.

The minute he went out to dinner with his buddies at the French Laundry after telling us to stay home is the exact moment those of living up here stopped listening to him. His political career may be toast with the way he has handled the past ten months.

Yeah, I'm wondering how they'll handle all the snow birds coming down. There's several popular camping areas just across the river from Yuma. Might check it out later in the month.

Prayers for safe travels and for an easy fix for DH’s shoulder.

We've been trying to get my dad and stepmom to leave CA and come live with us. They had the opportunity in the fall--had their house tentatively sold--as is--and most of it packed up, but DD couldn't handle leaving his home of 40+ years so suddenly, so he backed out. Just yesterday, my 16YO DD told him that the Berlin wall was going to go up and they were going to be stuck on the other side. Of course, we know CA can't enforce this order--yet. Tie it into banking somehow and they might have a chance.

I am in the process of getting my house ready to sell. Thankfully it's a seller's market. I am heading to Texas as soon as I can. I can't take California anymore. I used to love this state but this year put me over the edge. I will miss the beach and some friends but that's about all.
