CHAT I was with a communist tonight......

I really was. Didn't really want to, but don't know how to break off the casual friendship. I met this guy in a bookstore a few yrs ago. He is a pure liberal. He is smart tho as he won't talk "politics" with me. I try every now and then to get in a sentence, but he does not respond. I can't get any information out of him. They must be trained very well. Even tho he is a flaming liberal he seems to be a caring person. He was the only one who took interest in the book i was writing and he kept encouraging me. I see him once a year. I've tried to ignore his texts, but he's so nice i don't want to be rude. So every now and then he will text me and ask how i am. He does not know i am a conservative. I have hidden that fact from him. He thinks i am a Libertarian - which i am 50% and 50% conservative.

So he borrowed a friends car and wanted to see my country house. I can't let him come here cuz i got a Trump sign and a large American flag on my fence. Told him i was going out so we met at a stores parking lot. He had on his mask and i saw in the car he had that alcohol stuff for his hands, and a bag of chips. He knows i'm going thro a hard time and wanted to know how i was. I didn't know it, but behind me was a big black pick up truck and it had a HUGE American flag hanging on the back of it. He pointed it out and told me the country was
"scary territory." He was afraid of the American flag and afraid of conservatives! He said he wanted to get out of this scary territory and go back to the city where he felt more safe. I just told him that a lot of conservatives live in the country. He will never talk politics with me so i can't pick his brain. Altho 2 yrs ago he did tell me that we were gonna have a communist revolution.

you are a very nice person. much nicer than me.

i would have asked him since he said theres gonna be a communist revolution, and he seems to support such a notion, if he supported killing millions who do not want to be communist like stalin, castro, mao, etc, etc.

if communism or socialism seems to be what he believes in how come he never moved to a communist or socialist nation for a few years to try it out first? theres plenty of choices he could try out. --there is only one USA.

to force us to be communist will result in millions dead. how many dead americans is acceptable for him to turn us into a communist nation?

I get it...I try hard to be friendly (but I'm not very good at it being mostly a reserved recluse). But you want to be kind and our inclination is to be open to people - I hope that he got something from your interaction that will one day open his eyes. My family had a communist way back when, who turned around and was a big help in both war efforts the early to mid 1900s. Their mind-set is very different but it can be changed.

I've dropped a friendship over this subject. She used to be a very good friend, but my family has spent a lifetime fighting communism. Her daughter is a hard core socialist, in an international organization and she was proud of it. I just quit answering any of her texts or Christmas letters. Sometimes, you have to make hard decisions.

If your friend is not open to sharing information at all, but wanting to see your home, I'd be very leery of continuing your friendship. Something doesn't sound right about that, especially his finding the American flag scary.

I give up.
Yes, I'd be leery of him too, Mary. Don't let him know where you live.

I only ever knew two commies. One was a Brit war bride who was our upstairs neighbor. I don't think she was serious about it though -- she said everybody in England during WWII was a commie. Hmmm..... She was married and had two daughters and has passed away a long time ago now.

The other one was an actual card-carrying commie (he showed it to me). He was the ex-BF of one of my old friends. He was very nice and sociable, fit in everywhere. I can't remember what he did for a living. Anyway, she broke up with him and he got a new girlfriend who was also very nice, and they used to come to my old friend's mom's parties all the time.

i think after talking to some libs/ lefties that claim socialism is the best and fairest form of govt for all have absolutely no clue what real socialism /communism is and hwo it will change not only their lives but of all americans. . they live in a philosophical bubble with nice sounding cliches thinking they can make things fair for every person then the whole world will be happy.

when i politely (yes i always strive for politeness unless they pee in my cornflakes) ask How do you implement this plan of total economic and social equality and they respond with pie in the sky make the millionaires and billionaires and rich corps pay for the needs of the people---what happens when that money runs out and there are no more rich corps or rich people caused you taxed them to death or they moved out of the country ---and they have No Idea.

i think most are altruistic and essentially mean well but have not thought out any details so end up being easily manipulated because they Dont Think Things Thru to the end or the final cost.

So he borrowed a friends car

I can't remember what he did for a living
I see a pattern developing.

At some point the realization must be made, tolerating 9 out of 10 nice ones, enables the tenth one's evildoing...

The oil & vinegar of free market thought versus marxist thought only complement a salad of cold, blind rule of law.

Anybody see much of that these days??

Choose friends wisely, harden your hearts against family or foe that espouse that commie crap. jmho

I strongly believe that there have been NO truly communist countries in recent history. The communist former USSR, China, North Korea are thinly disguised dictatorships. If you don't toe the party line you go to gulag. In a true communist society there would be no need for this thuggery.

The Revolution (how do I type a backwards R??) of which Old Mate speaks will (if it occurs, which I seriously doubt) be a small and highly localised uprising by only a few which will be quickly quashed. Communism, in any form or disguise, is not a way forward, but a road to dictatorship.

Mary, you're a nice person and I admire that but, in today's world being a go-along to get-along person will get you taken advantage of or worse.

My Hillbilly roots say verify then trust and to me your acquaintance doesn't pass the smell test. To Thine Own Self Be True. Disengage from him, he's a big boy, he can take it.

"I can't let him come here cuz . . ."
You can't let him come to your house . . .

I'm sorry, this is not a friend. It is an acquaintance.
You do not trust him . . .

OK. He is smart but he will not engage you with his political philosophy because . . . why?
And yet he wants to know where you live . . . even though it is in the "country" away from his safe refuge in the city.

And he had to borrow a friends car . . . but he is smart.

BTW, a lady does not meet a gentleman in the parking lot.
You can meet him at the coffee shop.
You can meet him at the restaurant.
You can meet him at the art gallery or the museum.
And you can just go all out and meet him at the door of the hotel room in black negligee (or maybe red)
Never in the parking lot.

OMG! After reading The Naked Communist I cannot understand why ANYONE would think that it or Socialism is a valid form of government or way of life for that matter! Socialism is Communism Lite!

I have been referring to them as communists and dropped the socialist pretense long ago. My Faceborg friends list keeps getting smaller even though I never unfriend them.
The reason I keep a certain few communists is they are family. I’d like a heads up on when commie family plans on coming to kill me.

People do not seem to understand that the 'isms' is not something done FOR the people, it's something that is done TO the people. And they will simply never understand the consequences until it is too late.

Ferris: Not that I condone facism; or any ism for that matter. Isms, in my opinion, are not good. A person should not believe in an ism, he should believe in himself. I quote John Lennon, “I don’t believe in ‘Beatles’, I just believe in me.” Good point there. After all, he was the Walrus. I could be the Walrus, I’d still have to bum rides off of people.

Marie, you really, really need to break contact with this person.

Everything you have described about him sets off warning lights and sirens.

DO NOT take his words at face value. People like that are master manipulators.
Millwright is spot on!
How can you be absolutely certain?
You know this fellow is "not right". In fact, you know this person is "dead wrong".
Because it affected you enough to write about it.

I can be polite with most anybody that's the same back.

I can have a friendship with somebody that is apolitical.

But, probably not any more involved of a relationship if
they fail to see or care about the moral/political threats
that swirl all around us today, in same light as my own.

As far as serious romantic relationships, it's even more
essential that moral/political compass are in sync, IMO.

Here's what I start off my online dating profile with;

"Not wanting to waste anyone's time, but we're probably
not a good match if you're eager to vote for anybody but
Trump. Also, likely not work if you need to live in the city,
or go to the city often, as I'd usually prefer the country
lifestyle.
If still reading..."

I don't get too many bites (of course, my mugshot might be
to blame there, too), only infrequently a few responses, but
I'm patient, only looking for "the one".

Neither here nor there.
I highly recommend getting a course of antibiotics! Though I'm not sure which one they prescribe for coming in contact with communists.
