WTF?!? My rant about people

What I've noticed is people, on their phones, go into another world. It's like their conciousness is sucked into the phone while they're on the phone, they lose all sense of where they are and what's happening around them, probably playing candy crush.

This is why you see uTube videos of people walking into things, falling into decorative water fountains, crossing street while light is red and cars whizzing by.

I Stopped at a small mom/pop convince store. When I pulled in to the driveway a 20yr old young guy was on his phone standing 30' from the entrance, partially blocking cars. I walked into the shop and told the owner, he said "he's not there" I said sure he is. Owner said he is, but his mind is not there..oh got ya.

When I walked out I said, your in an unsafe spot, move. He was like ... What? I am? why?

You all know what I mean, some maybe cringing as you do this all the time. I'm not worried about you, because your not going to live long enough to be a problem.

I used to have a device that cancelled all phones in the immediate area. What fun! I used to shut off the whole commuter train car with it so I could sleep. Then they instituted quiet cars and my need went away. When you have one, you are God. Look up cell phone jammers. They're illegal, of course.

They’re illegal in the US, but legal everywhere else in the world. I got mine from England about 10 years ago. 4g hadn’t been deployed yet, and once it was, my jammer didn’t work on that band.

What if you need to pay inside and buy a couple of things?

Well now.....
Do you mean after you pump you walk back inside, grab a soda, candy bar and chips and pay for gas and everything else and leave within 5 minutes?

Or...
Do you mean you go inside for 20 minutes leaving your car blocking the pumps to "shop" for Nachos, Six hot dogs (they only had three, so you waited while they added more hotdogs to the machine to cook? Oh and then you see some funny T-shirts and brouse. Only then pay for your gas? and walk out 20 minutes later.

Or...Best bet is send another person inside to get treats while YOU pump gas. By the time you've gassed up they're waiting for you to come in and pay for everything.

I'm hoping Cacheman you're NOT meaning the second example

Tell me you didn't have fun with it!
Oh yeah! I’d go to public places (like a movie theater lobby) and sit on a bench against the wall. All the teens would be texting away. I’d pull it out, flip the switch and watch the hilarity ensue. After about two minutes, I’d turn it off. They’d return to texting. I’d turn it on again. Rinse and repeat. It’s amazing what fun can be had.

I think it might be the toxins and thickness of the air in the lowlands. Up here on the mountain above 5,000 feet everyone is pretty much chill.....until the weekend. That's when the flatlanders come up and suddenly the pace of everything goes spastic, short tempered, rude and simply asinine. They drive like maniacs, cut everyone off, take up two parking spaces so their brand new gigundo SUV's won't get scratched. At least two or three flip their vehicles driving up our curvy two lane mountain roads. They strip the markets of near everything edible and drinkable...not to mention clear the shelves of snacks....can't figure this one out at all, everything is basically cheaper down below in the flats? And......very few if any are distancing or wearing masks. It's just insanity for two and a half days. Monday though Thursday it's paradise, Friday through Sunday a virtual shitstorm. I think it's the toxic air down below or maybe our air up here is too thin for them. :shr::gaah:

You just described North Bend, Wa. in its entirety.

Same thing happening over there every single weekend. V

Around here very few stations are pre-pay required and with the pump skimmer problems nearly everyone (unless they have the stations gas card) goes inside after pumping and yes 5 minutes inside is quite common and not out of the ordinary and at 6AM is normal.

Now you took me completely out of context, BTW do you actually eat the crap sold there?

I wish I had someone always shopping for me, I'd enjoy it and do it that way every time, are you this fortunate?

Pretty much what I did as well. Just when they'd get the line connected again, I'd switch it on and drop their loud assed call! LMAO! I had to hide my face in my sleeve I would laugh so hard. The folks would blame everything from a cell tower being down to the fact the train car was aluminum. Mine generated quite a bit of heat in my pocket.

How about acting civilly toward your fellow human being? I strive to do just that. In fact I've had the clerk tell me they thought they had a "runner" more than once. That was of course when the pump cc machine was inoperable. Gas up, pull away to the side or a parking spot. Go in and pay. I only did this when it was busy and folks were waiting. Be courteous. How hard is that?

>>All the gas-stations out here are Pay First, pay first at the pump with plastic or go inside and pay.<<

>>I was not saying YOU eat that crap, just a general example of others<<

Nope I'm not that fortunate. But I tend to be aware of my surroundings and considerate of those around me.

No, I don't eat any hot or cold food from gas stations. My motto is "get in - get out - get on my way"

HOWEVER I have an elderly mother that could browse for 45 minutes in a gas station shop (time actually stops for her when she gets into this mode) she'd look at every single goddam thing and walk out with nothing for something that should have taken 3-5 minutes. I need to stop now I'm getting pissed off just thinking of this shit, and that crap my mom used to pull years ago when we were kids.

People have just become generally inconsiderate and indifferent to everyone around them. Can't stand jackasses like that. I'm about ready to start offering free manners lessons.
I noticed this attitude years before covid. My nephew moved his family from Japan back here to the Midwest. They noticed how much Sioux City had changed and not for the better. People were generally self centered, rude, and short with others. A year after they'd moved here they moved back to Japan. There are others who are polite, greet you, and wave hi and goodbye but that's it. Nobody just drops over to visit and kill a half hour anymore. Beginning in the mid 70s via media, poor parenting and the schools, kids were raised in the "child centered" approach to life, or the world needs to change to make you happy. Having to mold attitudes and behaviors to fit into society was out the door. They became the exalted class. I'm sure the stresses of these end times have exacerbated their beliefs, and the I come first attitude.

Have not been to Costco for a while. Been using Sams Club as i have the scan and go app. Scan items as you put them in your cart and bypass the lines.

Head toward the exit and they scan your phone after you pay in app, and out the door you go.

Don’t let the Piss Ants get you down…
I've never been big on gas station food of any sort. I don't have any specifics other than some personal thing that makes me look sideways at it.

I've posted many times about the declining values of our society. IMO, many people think very little of themselves and are filled with dissatisfaction and envy. How on earth can we expect these people to treat other people with courtesy and respect? As little effort and no cost as it is, it's still too much to ask of these self indulgent, narcissist cretins that make up so much of our population.

LMAO ... that’s my wife ... God love her. But not a gas station ... any store. I swear she reads the labels on everything ... ten times. Then takes her glasses out and reads them again.

I feel for you Dude.

About 12 years ago, after my Dad's death, my Mom's sister (my Aunt) with my cousin came down to California.

My mom wanted to take (I drive) everyone to San Francisco for SHOPPING and PLENTY of browsing the stores downtown. Got up there about 10am. Found a spot to park in a large parking garage.

The four of us walked and walked in/out of every kind of store we did this for hours. Finally about 4:30 pm we were beat. My cousin was tired, I was tired, none of us had eaten since breakfast.

I commented this to my mom (about 77yrs old at that time, 90yrs now) we are tired and need to eat.

Mom exclaims, "oh we're near Macy's, we can go to the Cellar and get a donut and coffee then we'll be good to go again" oh gawd. I whispered to my cousin, did you see how energized mom just got? A donut and coffee and she'd be up for another couple of hours of shopping. I'd speak up now if your tired and want to head home (an hours drive). Well we got our coffee & donut and sat for about 30 minutes, we were done after that sit. MY cousin commented while we were snacking she was beat and want to return home. But my mom is like that she can shop and shop and shop, look at everything and examine everything and not buy anything.

When we were younger we lived about 60 miles further south. My brothers and I were 6-16yrs Dad would keep mom happy by making this pilgrimage to "The City" once a year, mom being in her 40's she could go for 10 hours non-stop. The reward for us kids is we'd have a very nice dinner and a place that served great burgers and especially seafood which I really like. On the drive home we'd nap.

B-T-W some advice.... San Fran is now a First Class Third world shithole city. If you've been there once say ten or more years ago, don't go back you will be so disappointed, remember it the way it was. My brother (the youngest of the boys) took his new wife to SF (live in NM) he came back home and was PISSED, what the hell is going on in SF?
He said we saw people pooping, we saw homeless guy throwing a milkshake on a person because they didn't give him a buck. Trash filling the streets, nobody empties the garbage cans. Everything is filthy, what the F is the matter with SF? He finally declared I'm never going back to that crap ridden city.

SF, Seattle, Portland even little Port Angeles are all shit holes. Police can't do anything about vagrancy, panhandling, drug use, mountains of hypodermic needles, peeing, pooping, indecent exposure, insane ranting in public places, tent cities. 9th circuit enables it. Time for a change.
