ECON San Diego -- Businesses Leaving At Fast Pace

Cascadians

Leska Emerald Adams
My brother has lived in the San Diego, California, area for decades, operating his moving company.
Previously he was doing household moves, military contracts and business moves.
The landscape has dramatically shifted in the last few months and now he is inundated and doing corporate clean-outs.

I spoke to him by phone 2 nights ago. He said major corporations are leaving, closing up shop, in droves.
They want OUT Now. They do not want to pay another month's rent on their multi-story hi-rise buildings.
Most are completely shutting down and leaving for good. Skeleton crew working from home to fold business. MAJOR Corporations.
Owners are moving to small rural towns. Smart workers are also.
These business owners are paying top dollar to have their buildings emptied.
My brother is taking massive amounts of furniture, computers, phone systems etc to auction and also selling for $10/computer to get rid of endless amounts of expensive stuff, supply the needy with equipment and clean these buildings out as fast as possible.

Then he is going to another country to retire. His wife is from another country and has land. They will live off the land with family.

Brother is nice hard working guy, J6P. I have not tried to red-pill him. He is too busy and always has been to keep up with news etc.
But he knows something major is up. He feels it and feels he needs to work hard now and get out.
He said all the guys sense it. All the corporate suits tell him they have to leave as fast as possible.
Everybody seems to be making arrangements to gather family and leave.

My brother believes humans are resilient and the buildings will fill back up in about 2 years.
But whatever is happening, they all feel they need to completely abandon everything as fast as possible and GET OUT.

The most disconcerting aspect is that MAJOR companies are taking action.

One would assume that leadership actually knows something...not just a WAG or gut feeling.

You don't commit that kind of money on a whim.

The OP is very telling.

San Diego...one of the most desirable and expensive places to live in CONUS. This news is a big tell. I’ve not heard much bad news from there recently. The big boys must sense big change, or this wouldn’t be happening. Really thought it was all unicorn skittles in SD. Wake up call...of the bad kind.

I posted this because I was trying to visualize it and it is illogical.

My brother asks these ppl their biz destination and the answer is “None.”

Nobody has told him any “inside info.”

He gives bid and they offer him more money to move everything out faster.

He is too busy to try to figure it out.

Last week I ordered five cases of canned veggies and fruit through my local small grocery store. I've been ordering case lots for some weeks now. When the wholesaler's truck ran this week, I got nothing. And the store itself got little. This is the second time I've gotten nothing I ordered and I seldom get everything I ordered. Now it is true we are close to the middle of nowhere out here... but still.

The clues are out there, folks. Pay attention.

Sounds like their businesses, or at least corporate subsidiaries, may be folding and are trying to not rack up any additional rents/other liabilities.

They could of been set up and more ready for the SHTF if they had left 10 years ago at least. And got established in more conservative states.

That was about the end of anything good for private capitalist happening in California.

Now they got to start over in the worse of times.

I know our governor (Iowa) and the governors of SD and Nebraska recently signed some new laws that are very encouraging for those big corporations to relocate here, and there's incentives for them to move their employees here as well but I don't remember what that wording was in the law but I'm sure it's tax breaks for the employees as well as the corporations.

I cannot understand why they don’t care about their expensive equipment. And many OWN the buildings. And still want them completely cleaned out. ???
Possibilities:

1. They think they will do best to sell immediately, before everyone else figures it out, and property values drop?
2. Worst case scenario that I can think of, is that they may want to return the mortgaged building to the bank before they get tagged with property tax increases?

Fear is contagious, and if your brother is getting his business from referrals, the clients may all know eachother.
Not saying they are irrational, the brick and mortar dependent business owners I know of are getting out too - mostly retiring. After a certain age, one is going to be esp. risk adverse. The years just aren't there to take another financial hit.

Is this a Covid thing, an AntiFa/BLM thing, or what?

As nearly as I can tell, this is a ruin-your-economy-society-and-currency-for- 60-years-and-it-will-eventually-catch-up-with-you thing. COVID and riots are just the nudge to get the bolder rolling downhill. Hell is coming.

I pray I am wrong. But I am prepping hard.

West Coast States Secession from the ZUSA, and The Reconquista.

Should POTUS Trump win reelection, the west coast states
simply are not going to tolerate, another (4)four years,
and they will push for secession from the ZUSA.

Also, remember The Reconquista, where at least southern California,
and the entire states of Arizona, and New Mexico, are to be returned to Mexico.

ZUSA is currently back in 1860, with a very divisive
presidential election soon to occur. The same outcome
most likely will occur now, as occurred then,
and these businesses that are leaving, are simply getting
ready for the troubles that lay ahead.

Please be safe everyone.

Regards to all.

Agreed. This really is making me stop in my tracks. San Diego is just about a perfect location; One of the loveliest places I have ever been.. Gorgeous perfect weather and priced accordingly. That companies would flee it shocks me.

But maybe in better places.

Probably just emptying the building out so they can walk away from it.
Most big corporations that rent will sign a lease using there own "shell" companies.
The walk and the property owner can only go after the "shell company" which will most likely be promptly dissolved.

I don't think I like the part about 'their' employees coming with them.

Ten years ago I got out of the New Orleans area and never looked back. Just to get away I was willing to live in the back of my truck that has a camper top on it. I'd have had to poop in a bucket and cook over a fire, but God gave me a way to obtain a FEMA camper and through a lovely person here on TB that helped me get a school bus that was over in Texas. She and her husband picked it up, paid for it and stored it for me until I was ready to make the move and then deliver it to my home in the woods. I offered to pay them as soon as the deal was made but she would not hear of it. But as soon as it was delivered I payed her for it and their gas to get it here. What a blessing. That was just the beginning of the blessings from God that I have received since I made that move. Its not perfect here but its home and DH and I love it. Its comforting to know that we are surrounded by rednecks with guns, although I'm not keen on their attitude towards anyone that does not look like them (I do however look like them).

People get out of the cities, as our resident Mongo is always saying "Come out of her my people" I think he said that is some where in the Bible too.

Even if you are unable to make such a move you can still "gird your loins" hunker down and be as prepared as possible. And arm up.

God is good, all the time.

This tells me the leasing and management companies will be begging for more visas to come in then and fill the emptiness. They'll be paying more off to the congress to get it done, too.
