Today in "Why work when I can make more on unemployment" news...

A (now former) Amazon driver, Derick Lancaster, took to social media yesterday to inform the world not only that he was quitting his job as an Amazon driver, but also of the location of his fully stocked delivery van, which he claims to have left at a Metro Detroit gas station.

"**** that driving shit," Lancaster tweeted, alongside the location of his apparently abandoned delivery van. "It's full of gas with the keys in the ignition," he said.

The Tweet has gone viral and has almost a quarter of a million "likes". The 22 year old driver told The Detroit News on Monday: “I was making 200-300 stops a day, and I just couldn’t do it anymore. I was working from 9 in the morning to about 10 at night, and I couldn’t do it anymore.”

Lancaster says he was working for Amazon for 5 months "and was based out of Amazon’s Hazel Park delivery station." After starting with a position in the warehouse, he switched to delivery, the report says.

He said that while warehouse workers have a set schedule, drivers can't go home at the end of the day until all of their packages are delivered. “You work for every penny when you're delivering,” he said. Oh, the horror of having to work for your money.







Lancaster also said he used a rideshare service to pick him up and take him home after abandoning his van. He said he wasn't worried about customers getting their packages and said "They're going to get them regardless."

“I didn’t think it would pop off the way it did. I guess it touched a lot of people’s hearts who think Amazon overworks people,” he concluded.

Washing dishes at a local mom and pop place, and also had to clean the bathrooms... yeah that was motivation for gaining new skills to get the hell out of that place.

I have experience women's public bathrooms before.

The only case where I have seen people who have crap*ed in the sink was a woman's bathroom. Same with the trash can. both men and women on the floor. Tampons, used of course, all over the place stuck in strange places. 90% of the feces stuck on walls on mirrors, etc was in a woman's restroom.

I can not explain it.

The worst case ever was just after I clean the restrooms, (it was the 1st job right after I moved east), I knew they were clean. A classy woman in a expensive car came in and proceeded to mist 2 walls of the restroom in brown. I have no idea what she did or had, but it was gross. I refused to clean it after that.

Well, he should have at least driven the van back and quit, that degree of overwork (and we've seen it with the postal service in the UK too - where independent observers finally proved it was physically impossible to EVER meet a quota on some routes) is the sort of thing that leads people to break down.

Parking the van and calling a cab, and telling them where to find it is a lot better "snap" that a lot of the ones that happen, even some I've seen in real life.

There is good old fashioned hard work, and then there is actual worker abuse, and Amazon has repeatedly crossed the line.

Just because factory owners in 19th century Europe did something or manufacturers in China today do it, doesn't make it a good idea or even a practical business model in the long-term.

We no longer turn a blind eye to disposable workers dying in their late 30s from lung rot or on the job injuries, penniless sitting on brackets with coin cups either.

I saw that on a trip to the South by car once at a rest stop. I have never in my life seen a public bathroom in that condition. Nor had it ever occurred to me that any human being, especially a woman, who understands what it is like to clean up after others, would do that to someone else.

I was flabbergasted that someone would do something like that to someone else on purpose. I mean accidents happen, even with kids going into the bathroom with a mom, but clean up after them if they did. But pooping in a sink, on the floor, leaving tampons where they dont belong....that left me speechless. I never knew such animals existed until then. So I guess White Privilege does exist, because my mama taught me better than that. Taught me to be human. To respect others.

As one who used to deal with that,thanks for being true to your good upbringing.I can also vouch for the statement that women's restrooms are almost always worse.

When I drove shuttle buses at Grand Canyon National Park we had a driver just get off at one of the bus stops and leave a bus load of tourist there. Finally another bus on the same route came along and found it. The tourists just sat there for almost a half hour doing nothing. Strange what people do when they quit their jobs.

Sorry, this is 2020. While I don't think he should have gone out in that way, expecting someone to work 13 hours delivering packages is bulls..t. Hire more people.

what? You do realize that many jobs work that many hours and more, don’t you?

Ask any FF/Paramedic, detective, vice cop, surgeon, farmer-Ranchers, etc.

My ups guy told me what they were I just can't remember the number.
