Biden says he’s eager to compare ‘cognitive ability’ against Trump’s

Joe Biden, at his first press conference in three months, defended his cognitive ability and said he “can hardly wait” to compare it to President Trump's as the general election matchup heats up.

“I’ve been tested, I’m constantly tested,” Biden said in response to a question from Fox News’ Doug McKelway. “Look, all you’ve got to do is watch me and I can hardly wait to compare my cognitive capability to the cognitive capability of the man I’m running against.”

While Biden’s press conference in Delaware was ostensibly about how he would respond to the coronavirus pandemic, the former vice president also slammed the current White House occupant for his response to reports that Russian intelligence operatives offered to pay bounties to Taliban-linked militants who killed U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

Biden on Tuesday said it was unimaginable that Trump would not have known about the intelligence, and called into question the president’s cognitive abilities.

"The president talks about cognitive capability, but he is not cognitively aware of what’s going on,” Biden said, reversing a hit the president has used against him.

Biden also called on Congress to investigate the matter and, come Election Day, “for the public to decide whether he is fit for office.”

Trump, 74, and his campaign have come after Biden, 77, for his frequent gaffes, in May launching a faux "investigative" series that spotlights his numerous verbal miscues on the campaign trail.

“The American people deserve to know the truth behind Joe Biden’s delirious and nonsensical claims on the campaign trail,” Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh said in the video. “When he’s mangling the text of the Declaration of Independence or calling someone a ‘lying, dog-faced pony soldier,’ is he really speaking a language that only he and a select group of others understand?”

Biden, though, opened up in February about his lifelong struggle to overcome stuttering, and his defenders have argued that this sometimes may be a factor in his widely publicized history of stumbling words.

Trump has had his own fair share of verbal miscues, embellished statements and Twitter typos.

Biden, who Trump has famously labeled “Sleepy Joe,” said in a May interview with Vanity Fair, “I can hardly wait to get onto the stage with Donald Trump,” adding “Trump is a master at laying nicknames on people.”

The former vice president stressed that “in terms of energy ... I don't have any problem comparing my energy level to Donald Trump who I'm really resisting giving a nickname to.”

Fox News' Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.

Biden pledges to roll back Trump's tax cuts: 'A lot of you may not like that'

FOX Business' Charlie Gasparino says money managers believe markets might become even more volatile if presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden continues to lead the polls in the fall. Gasparino later discusses big banks' volatility on Friday.

Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden pledged during a call with potential campaign donors on Monday that his administration would reverse the bulk of President Trump's tax cuts, even though "a lot of you may not like that."
"I'm going to get rid of the bulk of Trump's $2 trillion tax cuts, and a lot of you may not like that, but I'm going to close loopholes like capital gains and stepped-up basis," Biden said, according to a pool report of the virtual fundraiser.

The former vice president vowed to raise the corporate tax rate from 21 percent to 28 percent, which he said is projected to raise $1.3 trillion over the next decade. The Trump administration permanently slashed the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 21 percent with the passage of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

He also floated the possibility of capping deductions -- Trump substantially increased the size of the standard tax deduction in 2017 -- and sanctioning companies for tax avoidance. Biden's comments came after he was questioned by Vincent Mai, the founder and chairman of Cranemere, about how he would balance short-term needs in addressing the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression with long-term investments the nation needs to make -- and how he would pay for it.

The recovery from the pandemic and subsequent shutdown could be used as an opportunity to build a "stronger, more inclusive middle class," he said, in part by investing "record sums of money" in clean energy innovation and infrastructure.
But Biden lambasted Trump's "irresponsible, sugar-high tax cuts," accusing the president of making it "much harder to foot the bill" of the nation's recovery.

The deficit for fiscal 2020 is expected to hit $3.8 trillion, a record, according to a projection from the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget. Even before the pandemic, the gap between what the government spends and what it collects was expected to break $1 trillion for the first time since 2012, the Congressional Budget Office said in January.

"We have to think as big as the challenge we face," Biden said. "But this is America, there is nothing we cannot do if we do it together. But I think the country is ready.”

In May, Biden and the DNC raised close to $81 million, marking their biggest single-month of fundraising in the 2020 cycle. They concluded the month with $130 million in the bank. Trump and the Republican National Committee brought in a combined $74 million last month and ended the month with $265 million in cash on hand.

Didn't Mondale say something similar back in 1984?

“Look, all you’ve got to do is watch me and I can hardly wait to compare my cognitive capability to the cognitive capability of the man I’m running against.”

So why is his staff hiding him in the basement and only wants him to do scripted speeches? Biden can't even remember what State he is in half the time. He has to come out of hiding if he wants to compete.

To be fair, we HAVE watched him, and that's why the question came up.

I for one welcome Biden back to the public eye. I hope it's a trend. Because instead of the media telling us Biden is a bazillion points up, we can see them going head to head. And I'm guessing it won't be pretty.

Hope Biden realizes that Prez Trump is totally winging it when he holds a rally - true the format is repeated from previous rallies or press conferences and/or Tweets >>> but he's up there speaking for a couple of hours without a teleprompter or a prepared speech on a specific topic - not as eazy as he makes it look >> try it sometime

YEAP!!

10 minutes can be an ETERNITY if you are completely extemporaneously speaking.

Having sat in the East in my Lodge I can attest to this.

I agree. Even 5 minute college speech class talks can be nerve-wracking.

Back in the day, Biden had no issue speaking publicly, even if he was an idiot. Now, he's reduced to trying to engage recorded voices...

Just more proof of how far gone he actually is.

Unless the whole thing is an act, but I don't think that's a big probability...

There have been at least a couple of videos of him flubbing his lines and appearing that he is getting offstage help through his earbuds

… just have a trump techie onsite and jam his signal

Or better yet override it and feed him some real gibberish and watch him go catatonic

If you enjoy a daily cocktail or some wine with dinner, you'll want to raise your glass to this: A new study found low to moderate drinking may improve cognitive function for White middle-aged or older adults.

Bottoms up as I slowly sip a double Tequila with lime.

I IMPLORE YOU NOT TO TELL BLM ABOUT THIS STUDY.

those debates are going to be a sad slaughter. I remember Carter being ahead on the polls until a last minute agreed debate with Reagan. Reagan came from behind and won handily.

This election is Trump's to lose.

The magnitude of the slaughter in '80 was just astounding. Either the polls showing Carter ahead were worthless, or that debate did him in in a huge way...

I hope for an '80 or '84 style rout for Trump, I really do...
