Christian explained in a Facebook post that he replied: 'All you have to do is take him to the other side of the drive, outside The Ramble, and you can let him run off leash all you want.'
She replied: 'It's too dangerous.'
'Look, if you're going to do what you want, I'm going to do what I want, but you're not going to like it,' Christian responded.
He then beckoned the pooch toward him and pulled out 'dog treats I carry for such intransigence'.
But he stated he didn't get a chance to toss any treats 'before Karen scrambled to grab the dog' and yelled: 'DON'T YOU TOUCH MY DOG!'
'That's when I started video recording with my iPhone, and when her inner Karen fully emerged and took a dark turn...' he wrote on Facebook Monday.
In the clip he responds: 'Please don't come close to me' several times as the woman asks him to stop filming then tells him she's calling the cops.

The white woman who called the cops on a black man in Central Park said her “entire life is being destroyed” since video of the confrontation went viral, according to a new report.

Amy Cooper told CNN that she wanted to “publicly apologize to everyone” after she was caught on video Monday morning calling the cops on the man, who asked her to put a leash on her dog.
“I’m not a racist. I did not mean to harm that man in any way,” she told the network.
She added, “[My] entire life is being destroyed right now.”
Since the video was posted on Twitter Monday — racking up more than 147,000 shares — Amy was placed on administrative leave from her position at the investment company Franklin Templeton.

Oh, when Karens take a walk with their dogs off leash in the famous Bramble in NY’s Central Park, where it is clearly posted on signs that dogs MUST be leashed at all times, and someone like my brother (an avid birder) politely asks her to put her dog on the leash.

The clash between Amy and bird watcher Christian Cooper unfolded Monday at a wooded area of Central Park called the Ramble.
Christian said he asked Amy to put the dog on a leash, and when she didn’t, he offered the pooch a treat.
Amy has claimed she felt threatened because she didn’t know what the dog treats were made of.
She is shown on the video, tweeted by Christian’s sister, telling the 911 operator: “There is an African American man. I am in Central Park. He is recording me and threatening myself and my dog.”

“I think I was just scared,” she told CNN of her actions. “When you’re alone in the Ramble, you don’t know what’s happening. It’s not excusable, it’s not defensible.”
Christian told the network he recorded the altercation because “I thought it was important to document things.”
“Unfortunately we live in an era with things like Ahmaud Arbery, where black men are seen as targets,” he said. “This woman thought she could exploit that to her advantage, and I wasn’t having it.”
On social media, Amy is being referred to as “Karen,” the social media shorthand for white women who call the cops on black neighbors over harmless incidents.
Meanwhile, Christian told CNN he’d accept Amy’s apology “if it’s genuine and if she plans on keeping her dog on a leash in the Ramble going forward.”
“Then we have no issues with each other,” he said.
The NYPD is not looking to bring charges against the dog walker, NYPD First Deputy Commissioner Benjamin Tucker said Tuesday morning."

This strikes me as a genuine throwback to the small town of previous eras. Nothing was secret, and your behavior was judged by community standards, rather than "the law". And consequences of ridicule and shunning were usually a heck of a lot more effective than fines or legal consequences.

I agree on the loose dog bit. Around here they are a pain at times. Lately it seems the owners have been moving further out of town or something. I know it is not me as until recently I did not have enough of a gun to reliably take the dam*ed dogs down on the first shot.

Some of us have a high degree of idealism. I can be one of those. Whenever I catch myself thinking, "Why don't others follow common sense rules?" I can become a meddling truth speaker. Not good. "Yo, can't you read? Put your damn dog on a leash!"
The problem is that you can never predict how the situation may escalate. Instead of being a Karen, she could've been a Psycho Betty. Instead of pulling out a phone, she could've pulled a .22 out of her purse.
While we can go macho and say, "My EDC (Every Day Carry) is bigger than hers," the real question is,
"Is it worth it?"
Bottom line: No conflict with strangers over non-life threatening issues.

Don't we on this board regularly give the media and police departments hell for not describing a suspect as being black when said subject is, in fact, black? Is an accurate description racist only when the individual described is black?
The difference here is that she apparently said his race first, rather than wait for the cops to request a description.

I know. She went off the deep end though. Even she apologized, but it was too late. He wasn't trying to commit a crime on her. All he wanted was for her to follow the rules and put the leash on her dog. Which is no longer her dog anyway.
I watched the video, several times, she described him as much, because she knew there was a much higher than normal probability of the police reacting.... and she knew.. that "HE" knew and hoping that he would not stand his ground.

It is truly amazing just how many people are giving their opinions without viewing the actual video.
She states she was afraid .... and yet at the beginning she is the one approaching him pointing her finger almost touching him, demanding he stop recording. He had to request she stop approaching him. And she is "afraid"??
Then she tells him she is calling the police and he tells her twice to please call them.
She then states "I'm going to tell them there is an African American man threatening my life"
And what aggressive action is he doing? Calmly recording her during the false 911 call reporting a threat against her and her dog making sure to mention right off the bat that it is an African American man..
