CORONA No more coffee

We're out of milk and cream. I have powdered milk, but DH calls it "White Death" and will do without. (No, we're not going out for anything for awhile.)

Hope in chains...
Got my extra coffee yesterday, along with all the pet feed I needed, plus 50# of chick feed. The babes are going into the outdoor pen tomorrow, as they are now fully feathered.

Took ALL my will power not to buy more.
I put my babies out in the grow out coop yesterday. Their frantic chirps at having 3x the room erupted into them practicing flying. I musta spent 2 hrs just watching. Nothing better to do, then watching chicks! Xcept when they misjudge their prowess and land on the ogre & freak out.
I forgot to say that 4 years ago, Lipton tea was changing how they wrap and sizes of their packaged tea. The stores were literally selling it for half off or more. I would go in, buy the limit, come out, go back in get more. At the rate I use it, I should have about 5 more years. Plus I have enuf honey to supply Egytian tombs with mumified honey for my tea.

Neither here nor there.
there were certain things that we made sure we were getting immediately upon hearing the what was going on when this things started.

coffee was one of them.

This^^^ my one a day bottle of coca-cola habit is covered and if I should run out of that I have Dr. Pepper and/pr Cream Soda... however, I am slowly transitioning back over to my summer beverage of choice of unsweetened iced tea, just gotta keep making ice is all!

As soon as we were in lockdown we went on half rations of coffee. Only make one pot a day now.

The principal of use one, buy 2, until you're out of room and then use one, buy one, works for coffee too. (2 is 1, 1 is none)

Until of course you get into this type of situation, then we are using one, and using one. Boy is our grocery bill going to be high when this is over.

Yours and everyone else's, assuming there is food to be had.

C'mon, Mecoastie! This is supposed to be a prep and news board. We're barely into this virus pandemic and you're already running out of coffee??? It reminds me of another thread here where guys are complaining about not being able to find ammo.

If anything at all is important to your household - and if you consider yourself to be a prepper - you should stock in-depth and be prepared to ride anything out for at least several months.

Last week SWMBO picked up 6 bags of dawg phood & 6 bags of Layena pellets. :chg:
The hens are producing about three dozen eggs a week, I won't mention what the dogs are producing. :rdog:

Some people don't have the $$$ to prep up in advance, for whatever reasons it happens...

Eight o'clock coffee Columbia whole bean is my brand of choice. Love to smell the freshly ground. It is sometimes hard to find, even at Walmart. They have online ordering with free delivery for $39 order so if you're desperate and don't mind paying a little more, go to
eightoclock.com. They have all kinds of coffee. You can buy one time delivery or set up auto order. I even did the auto order...being without coffee beans is what I call a hardship. :-)

Coffee is not actually that high on our importance list. I drink a lot but when I run out it isn't that big a deal. Switch to tea and when that runs out get a headache for a week and that's it. It is a nice to have but not a necessity. Same with the beer. We looked at stocking a bunch of green beans and roasting our own but neither of us like it black ( pathetic I know). Without a cow for the cream then there is no point in a lot of coffee. I stock tea for the caffeine as I drink it black or with a little honey.

Wow, some of you people went overboard with the coffee amounts. I have several containers of
coffee in the freezer, grounded and whole beans. I like the stove top Faberware percolator and of
course lightly salted to make it smooth. Coffee really adds to a meal.

Also, I've noticed that when I order coffee at a restaurant, the waitress appears nerves about saying
black coffee. They are never sure about how to word that question and usually dance around the topic.

My wife is very quick to claim all of my coffee grounds. Our soil is pretty alkaline, and she uses them liberally in the soil of the acid-loving plants outside, and somewhat in the vegetable garden.

I, too have a substantial pile of coffee. 90+ lbs, plus 6 large cases of instant. In my experience, the 'alarm' tends to be your spouse. <big grin>

I never could stomach instant coffees, until I discovered the Cafe Bustelo Instant Espresso coffee. I tried and liked it, and all of my co-workers were quick converts. Bustelo is definitely a part of my stash. If you get desperate enough to try something new, see if you can order some off of their web site in the 7.05 ounce glass jars. As an alternative to regularly made, percolator, coffee, I like to take my mug, fill it with hot whole milk and add the Bustelo instant. Very satisfying. Haven't tried this with instant milk yet.

I do, though, agree that the loss of cream is a human travesty.

We have a “secret source “ ordering stuff for us. When we run out we pick it up. Pays to develop a relationship with the folks from India . Of course this is a twenty year relationship. But still...

Well on a bit of a lighter note, we are down to the last pound of coffee and quart of cream. So I will now be drinking tea so my wife can have the rest. Oh and I had my last beer last night.

Still have coffee here, down to 2 beers though so I feel you.

Is there a reason you can't order it? DH got a big order of his favorite coffee yesterday. He was down to drinking his second favorite. LOL

IIRC, you shouldn't freeze coffee.

Something about it breaking down the cell walls and making it muddy?

Not sure, I may be all wrong.

Maybe have some NoDoz, Excedrin or anything with caffeine in it; not a good time for cold-turkey caffeine withdrawal.

Yes, it does come out more muddy, which settles to the bottom.
I haven't noticed a discernible difference in taste, but that's just me.

Still have 9 pounds of beans left and it is just me for a couple cups a day. I think I'm good for a while. Ice cream though is long gone.

From a personal standpoint, the "caffeine withdrawal" resulting from no coffee did not happen. I don't remember why I stopped drinking it since I really enjoy a good cup of coffee. But, I do remember, the dental hygienist saying, "I guess you don't drink coffee?" I was shocked. Then, I don't remember going back to having it! With breakfast or a dessert, it's wonderful.

Coffee... :kk1: (As a drink... a little coffee ice cream once in a great while is okay.)

Lipton tea. :kk1: (I grew up with that, but seriously, :kk1: .)

We're tea drinkers here, preferably iced but I will drink it hot, too. My preferred iced tea is Pure Leaf black, sweetened (by me) with Stevia. I'm out of that bottled tea, though, so I am reduced to making iced tea with tea bags. I have a stock of Tetley British Blend, which should keep me in iced tea for at least a couple more months. (I also have other teas, flavored, which are for hot tea only.)

DH is going to be in trouble, though. He wants Honest Tea (Green Dragon) or Thai iced tea (from our favorite Thai restaurant). Both of those, he has to go out for (store or restaurant). Sooner or later, I think that's going to spell Covid (if we haven't had it already).

You and me both. When I heard people say there was no more coke around here I panicked and bought a dozen cases on Quill.

This is considered code red in my house. I would never let that happen. I’ve got enough coffee for a year. :)
