While we leverage this situation to demand an end to the global supply chain, and hammer our communities to "eat local" we should also, i think, really press for a return to our commodities/grain storage that we used to have....Iron. Hot. Strike. what else can we do to make the 'shit sandwhich' the least bit palatable?

I’ve already voiced above that I did feel he downplayed this too much.
And believing China’s numbers ??? Good Lord!
I hope and pray I’m WRONG and the President handles this spectacularly well and the virus burns itself out and all turns out fine.

Parr of the problem is that the MSM hasn't questioned Beijing’s numbers despite their reactions, and what has been leaking out, making those numbers look like they are missing decimal places.

Marsh, some others and I wonder if it isn't time to start digging into what exactly the emergency protocols will permit different offices/agencies to commandeer... I think we've gotten a good sense of what lies ahead...pandemic that will be at our own doors, literally--- or, perhaps with the grace of god will not hit our own communities, but will many other American communities. ... with as much as 70% infection rate, 20% critical, 10% death... gah! maybe only 3-5% death rate... but the basics remain the same things we've always known...i think.

Excellent summation, lady! Dig into the protocol; it's like a blank check to control the spread and deal with the active cases. Every emergency organization in the US (except for NYC) uses the NIMS system (National Incident Management System) to deal with disasters. He's mobilized the country's emergency response and mitigation resources with HHS as the commanders in chief. The WuFlu is here, the response heat is ready to crank up as needed.
I can imagine many emergency response activities all over the country tomorrow are going to have meetings on what needs to be done. We're ready for it.

I watched the whole thing. My take is Trump hasn't grasped the full picture of what we might be facing. His eternal optimism just gets in the way. Hopefully he will listen to the folks at the CDC, NIH etc.

Of course the reporters don't really grasp it either. None of them asked about supply line vulnerabilities, nor what our domestic vaccine production capacity is should a vaccine get developed.

Trump has no clue. This is NOT the flu, and no idea on the pathology of this virus.
I pray the man is right. But he may eat those words, and give the election to Sanders.
The people working under him are incompetent and liars.

Some folks seem to be all doomed up tonight.

IMHO overall the orange loudmouth did a reasonable job in explaining the situation as it stands right now, what plans are in place and the process that is being used to monitor this so that appropriate actions can be taken.

If trump hadn't closed down Chinese travel into the states in January, who knows just how bad this could have been. He also stated tonight that they are monitoring several other countries and if warranted will close them down as well.

As far as an earlier post saying this isn't flu, nope it is not, thank God.

…. even with flu vaccines, so far this year

CDC U.DS. Flu Season Statistics

CDC estimates* that, from October 1, 2019, through February 15, 2020, there have been:
29,000,000 – 41,000,000
flu illnesses

13,000,000 – 19,000,000
flu medical visits

280,000 – 500,000
flu hospitalizations

16,000 – 41,000

Here's the stat's so far on the US for COVID-19

CDC Coronavirus stats

COVID-19: Confirmed Cases in the United States*†
Travel-related12
Person-to-person spread2
Total confirmed cases14
Total tested445
* This table represents cases detected and tested in the United States through U.S. public health surveillance systems since January 21, 2020. It does not include people who returned to the U.S. via State Department-chartered flights.

† Numbers closed out at 4 p.m. the day before reporting.

COVID-19: Cases among Persons Repatriated to the United States†
Wuhan, ChinaDiamond Princess Cruise Ship‡
Positive342
† Numbers closed out at 4 p.m. the day before reporting.

‡ Cases have laboratory confirmation and may or may not have been symptomatic.

What Trump said is that so far the things done seem to be under control BUT THAT IT CAN GET WORSE

So far 16 ,000 flu deaths versus no COVID-19 deaths in the USA

So far at least 29,000,000 infected and 280,000 hospitalizations with the flu versus

… while COVID-19 has 14 individual non-repatriated cases and 45 additional cases directly from repatriated already sick for a total of 69

And yes there will be more cases of COVID-19 but as of right now nobody knows how many more and how soon.

Since the Chinese numbers can't be trusted, the real scope of this carries an uncertainty which makes it so very hard to try to plan this out for anybody.

Can it get worse in a hurry?

… you bet but few of the previous posts appear to have already made the leap into full on hair on fire mode.

Yes, there will certainly be an impact on global supply lines. Since so much of the root stocks for many things were moved to China years ago, until their mess gets sorted out certain things will get tight. Seems if you really are a prepper you'd have already figured that out and made the appropriate changes to your plans.

IMHO if you haven't updated your planning for this ongoing new RISK and obtained the proper resources, the best thing to do is start right now- plan for yours and loved ones protection for the "just in case" and keep monitoring the different sources of information until this is over.

You really want to see just how bad it can get?

Just as companies shamelessly outsourced so much labor production to China in the 90 and 2000s to save cents on the dollar and create JIT inventories. Businesses should dust off their succession planning models and in source production from these flu infected areas to places closer to home. You always must have a back up plan to keep up with demand.

I think the reason this board is in panic about the virus is because of your age group and comprised health situations.

You are having a hard time seeing it through the rest of the population’s eyes. Yes there is a risk factor for the rest of us, but it’s not large.

Nationally it’s a moderate problem. Trump needs to think of the country first. He can’t compromise the economy for a portion of the older generation

That said, I know he can not tell the whole truth because of the reaction, but I think he did poorly tonight.

INTRODUCTION
Purpose
Emergency Support Function (ESF) #8 – Public Health and Medical Services provides the
mechanism for coordinated Federal assistance to supplement State, tribal, and local resources
in response to a public health and medical disaster, potential or actual incidents requiring a
coordinated Federal response, and/or during a developing potential health and medical
emergency. The phrase “medical needs” is used throughout this annex. Public Health and
Medical Services include responding to medical needs associated with mental health, behavioral
health, and substance abuse considerations of incident victims and response workers. Services
also cover the medical needs of members of the “at risk” or “special needs” population
described in the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act and in the National Response
Framework (NRF) Glossary, respectively. It includes a population whose members may have
medical and other functional needs before, during, and after an incident.
Public Health and Medical Services includes behavioral health needs consisting of both mental
health and substance abuse considerations for incident victims and response workers and, as
appropriate, medical needs groups defined in the core document as individuals in need of
additional medical response assistance, and veterinary and/or animal health issues.
Scope
ESF #8 provides supplemental assistance to State, tribal, and local governments in the
following core functional areas:
y Assessment of public health/medical needs
y Health surveillance
y Medical care personnel
y Health/medical/veterinary equipment and supplies
y Patient evacuation
y Patient care
y Safety and security of drugs, biologics, and medical devices
y Blood and blood products
y Food safety and security
Emergency Support Function #8 – Public Health and Medical Services Annex
ESF #8-2 ESF #8 – Public Health and Medical Services Annex January 2008
y Agriculture safety and security
y All-hazard public health and medical consultation, technical assistance, and support
y Behavioral health care
y Public health and medical information
y Vector control
y Potable water/wastewater and solid waste disposal
y Mass fatality management, victim identification, and decontaminating remains
y Veterinary medical support
Policies
The Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) leads all Federal public health and medical
response to public health emergencies and incidents covered by the NRF. The response
addresses medical needs and other functional needs of those in need of medical care, including
assistance or support in maintaining independence, communicating, using transportation,
and/or requiring supervision.
The Secretary of HHS shall assume operational control of Federal emergency public health and
medical response assets, as necessary, in the event of a public health emergency, except for
members of the Armed Forces, who remain under the authority and control of the Secretary of
Defense.
The Secretary of HHS, through the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and
Response (ASPR), coordinates national ESF #8 preparedness, response, and recovery actions.
These actions do not alter or impede the existing authorities of any department or agency
supporting ESF #8.
HHS coordinates all ESF #8 response actions consistent with HHS internal policies and
procedures (e.g., HHS Concept of Operations Plan for Public Health and Medical Emergencies,
and the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) Four Partner Memorandum of Agreement).
ESF #8 support agencies are responsible for maintaining administrative control over their
respective response resources after receiving coordinating instructions from HHS.
The Emergency Management Group (EMG), operating from the HHS Secretary’s Operations
Center (SOC), coordinates the overall national ESF #8 response for the ASPR and maintains
constant communications with the National Operations Center (NOC).
All headquarters and regional organizations (including those involved in other ESFs)
participating in response operations report public health and medical requirements to the
appropriate ESF #8 representative operating in the National Response Coordination Center
(NRCC), the Regional Response Coordination Center (RRCC), or the Joint Field Office (JFO)
when activated.
The Joint Information Center (JIC) will be established to coordinate incident-related public
information, and is authorized to release general medical and public health response
information to the public. When possible, a recognized spokesperson from the public health
and medical community (State, tribal, or local) delivers relevant community messages. After
consultation with HHS, the lead Public Affairs Officer from other JICs may also release general
medical and public health response information.
Emergency Support Function #8 – Public Health and Medical Services Annex
January 2008 ESF #8 – Public Health and Medical Services Annex ESF #8-3
In the event of a zoonotic disease outbreak and in coordination with ESF #11 – Agriculture and
Natural Resources, public information may be released after consultation with the Department
of Agriculture (USDA). In the event of an oil, chemical, biological, or radiological environmental
contamination incident, ESF #8 coordinates with ESF #10 – Oil and Hazardous Materials
Response on the release of public health information.
As the lead agency for ESF #8, HHS determines the appropriateness of all requests for release
of public health and medical information and is responsible for consulting with and organizing
Federal public health and medical subject-matter experts,as needed.

This is the web site the talking head who followed President Trump sent people to:

According to the CDC: Employers are advised to encourage employees to "telework" from home after they get sick.

"For employees who are able to telework, supervisors should encourage employees to telework instead of coming into the workplace until symptoms are completely resolved. Ensure that you have the information technology and infrastructure needed to support multiple employees who may be able to work from home."

I posted the whole thing on the main CV19 thread. - OGM

I also looked up: "
Interim Guidance for Businesses and Employers to Plan and Respond to Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), February 2020"

Good luck with THIS one. Companies HATE telecommuting and have for years. A science-fiction novel from 1995, "Headcrash", gives the best explanation of why:

"Telecommuting: Like Laetrile, the death of Elvis Presley and New Democrats, telecommuting was one of the great popular hoaxes of the late 20th Century. The idea that middle managers would actually allow their employees to use a technology that, by definition, makes middle management obsolete, is too ludicrous to bother refuting here."

Glad someone FINALLY picked up on that implication. ESF-8, if fully implemented is exactly that to American eyes that know what they're looking at. It's what China has done already and ours is simply a kinder, gentler version. It's not a power play but if it were implemented by a dem president it could literally become a soft power martial law grab.

Exactly, imagine when Bernie bros get triggered during the election and dealing with a pandemic with Democrats and the MSM calling for people to riot in the streets like the 2016 election.

• Jurek Affirms That “Free Speech Has Repercussions…There Are Consequences for Your F***ing Actions…You Should Expect a Violent Reaction. And You Deserve a Violent Reaction.”

Project Veritas: Bernie Sanders Field Organizer Suggests Gulags to Help 'Nazified' Trump Voters

An undercover video published by Project Veritas on Tuesday shows a field organizer for Sen. Bernie Sanders’s 2020 campaign saying Soviet gulags were actually a positive phenomenon, suggesting that some similar program could re-educate Trump supporters and billionaires.
The video begins with a Project Veritas journalist asking an individual identified as Sanders organizer Kyle Jurek if “MAGA people” could be re-educated if Bernie wins the White House. “We gotta try,” Jurek replies. “In Nazi Germany, after the fall of the Nazi Party, there was a shit-ton of the populace that was ****ing Nazified.”
“Germany had to spend billions of dollars re-educating their ****ing people to not be Nazis,” he continues. “We’re probably going to have to do the same ****ing thing here.”
“That’s kind of what all Bernie’s whole ****ing like, ‘hey, free education for everybody’ because we’re going to have to teach you to not be a ****ing Nazi,” he added.
In another part of the video, Jurek is seen discussing Soviet Union dictator Joseph Stalin’s use of gulags, where he claims that the CIA was overly critical of them. “People were actually paid a living wage in the gulags, they conjugal visits in gulags, gulags were meant for re-education,” he says.
Jurek is then seen suggesting that the most effective way to re-educate the billionaire class is to order them to “break rocks for 12 hours a day.”
“[The] greatest way to break a ****ing billionaire of their privilege and their idea that their superior, go and break rocks for 12 hours a day. You’re now a working class person and you’re going to ****ing learn what the means, right?”
The video also shows Jurek warning that Milwaukee, host of this year’s Democrat National Convention, will “burn” if Sanders fails to win the party’s nomination. “If Bernie doesn’t get the nomination or it goes to a second round at the DNC convention, ****ing Milwaukee will burn,” says Jurek. “It’ll start in Milwaukee and then when the police push back on that, other sites will ****ing [explode].”
The footage concludes with Jurek issuing the chilling prediction that Milwaukee could see riots akin to the 1968 convention in Chicago, where left-wing activists engaged in violent riots in the streets. “Be ready to be in Milwaukee for the DNC convention. We’re going to make [1968] look like a ****ing girl’s scout ****ing cookout,” warns the Sanders field organizer. “The cops are going to be the ones ****ing beaten in Milwaukee.”
The undercover video’s emergence comes as 2020 Democrats are slated to debate Tuesday evening — their final meeting before Iowa holds the nation’s first caucus on February 3rd. Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe has teased that Tuesday’s footage is one of several upcoming videos to be released as part of the group’s “Expose2020” campaign.

Interesting comments from Bracken on this today.

Matt Bracken | April 14, 2019 at 09:24 | Reply

The Left is gearing up for genocide against whites. Before every genocide, the targeted scapegoats are demonized in the media.

Turkey/Armenians, USSR/Kulaks, Germany/Jews, China/landlords, Cambodia/intellectuals, Rwanda/Tutsis etc etc etc.

The message being sent by this show is clear: the “white nationalist” scapegoats are evil monsters, “irredeemable deplorables,” and what can you do with irredeemables but do away with them? The social approval of the pre-genocide scapegoat message has a clear purpose, it’s psychological battle-space preparation.

This is why the globalist/communist Left is conflating Nazism with “white nationalism,” which is their term for heritage American patriots.

The problem for the Left is that heritage American patriots are armed to the teeth, and won’t be disarmed short of a bloody civil war, which the Left will probably lose, and lose badly.

People living in glass houses should not throw stones, and people who live by the millions jammed into blue hives where every drop of water, box of food, gallon of fuel, and watt of electricity must be imported from the hostile heritage American hinterland should not instigate a civil war.

Bracken: Covington Gives a Glimpse of Civil War Two

During the attempted electronic lynching of the Covington Catholic high school boys on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, the mask hiding the Left’s genocidal rage slipped and was momentarily visible. The reality of the confrontation was inverted 180 degrees by the duplicitous mainstream media so that a smiling white teenager was made to face the wrath of an Orwellian two-minute hate that stretched on for days, even after the factual record was corrected. Accelerated by social media, the virtual lynch mob called for, among other horrors, MAGA-hat-wearing teenage boys to be fed headfirst into wood chippers, or for them to be locked en-masse into their school and the school to be burned to the ground.

This hurricane of socially sanctioned racial fury did not arise spontaneously, but was the result of deliberate cultivation over the past few decades by the political Left, academia, the mainstream media, and the Hollywood entertainment elite. Entire books could be written laying out the many already familiar examples of the Left encouraging racial animosity against whites, but that is not my goal in writing this piece.

I am instead observing that before every notorious genocide, the same pattern of marginalizing and demonizing a designated scapegoat population has occurred. On the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, the national mainstream media signaled that it was now acceptable to vent seething racial hatred against white males, even teenage boys. This was further telegraphed when notable verified Twitter blue-check accounts were not suspended after doxing the boys and posting explicit calls for violence against them. (By way of contrast, I was permanently banned from Twitter for posting an anti-burka meme that did not even name a religion.)

The Covington confrontation points to an ironclad historical pattern. Every previous genocide in modern times was preceded by a similar pattern of public demonization of state-designated scapegoats. But is correlation causation? Does the American Left intend to eventually commit genocide against white heritage American males? In my opinion, yes. Scapegoating is part of a clear pattern of conduct seen during every socialist power grab from the French Revolution until now. In the case of German national socialists, European Jews were the scapegoats of the Nazis during their climb to power. In the case of international socialists, AKA Communists, class enemies were usually but not always the designated scapegoats. Examples of class enemies would include the Kulaks in the Soviet Union, “landlords” in China, and “intellectuals” in Cambodia. But in other cases ethnic groups were targeted as scapegoats by Communists, to include the Ukrainians, Crimeans, Latvians and others...

CA has it first case of unknown origin. Trump tried to downplay it too much.

If you have a real outbreak in CA, from a realpolitik view, what's Trump's downside when everyone in CA personally knows how bad the public health/homeless situation really is?

Good luck with THIS one. Companies HATE telecommuting and have for years. A science-fiction novel from 1995, "Headcrash", gives the best explanation of why:

"Telecommuting: Like Laetrile, the death of Elvis Presley and New Democrats, telecommuting was one of the great popular hoaxes of the late 20th Century. The idea that middle managers would actually allow their employees to use a technology that, by definition, makes middle management obsolete, is too ludicrous to bother refuting here."

If they hadn't fallen out of the stupid tree and hit every branch on the way down they know it makes them more critically needed by the company or institution. Without tech savvy management verifying productivity and production goals are being met, labor, equipment, personel, materials and connectivity issues are resolved in a short and satisfactory manner companies are in a world of hurt.

Maybe if tech savvy managers were hired and promoted instead of hall monitors we'd all be better off and so would the bottom line.

Definitely get our grain stores up again and quit selling them. Bring basic medical/veterinary meds and equipment production back stateside. Never again let some other country put us in this situation where we depend on foreign supply. Start with the basics and repatriate some of it every year until we have it all back. Manufacturing for Americans by Americans to be used to heal Americans.

I am sure I will get flamed for this comment

I think the reason this board is in panic about the virus is because of your age group and comprised health situations.

You are having a hard time seeing it through the rest of the population’s eyes. Yes there is a risk factor for the rest of us, but it’s not large.

Nationally it’s a moderate problem. Trump needs to think of the country first. He can’t compromise the economy for a portion of the older generation

While I’ll concede that there may be something to that, I feel like the majority of the people here are well-prepped and live out in the country. I think most are in a pretty good position to get through this thing, regardless of age.

I’ll be perfectly honest, and I might be the one now getting flamed. But here’s my take on the situation here with those talking about the virus and “panicking.” I think that many of us here, as Christians, have the wisdom and discernment of the Holy Spirit. While we won’t ever presume to know God’s detailed plans for the world, we do know the playbook. And we know what society is like right now. And we also know a judgment of God when we see one. There are many stories of plagues and punishment in the Bible.

We fear the Lord. As much as we all groan and want to see Jesus return, we know it’s going to get worse before it gets better. And we here in this group who have been watching and waiting for the signs and the birth pangs know that one of them is going to be a biggie. This virus could be a biggie.

It is not panic, per se, that you’re seeing here. It’s understanding and fear of what’s to come. If not now, certainly at some point into the not to distant future.

Meh. I watched most of it just now, because I've been out this evening. It was fine. Those in charge aren't about to go sending people running in panic. If people have sense enough to read beyween the lines, they know what's up. Other's who aren't payng attention? Not my problem. Stores should be in good shape tomorrow morning and into the weekend, and frankly, that is fine, also.

Please be cautious when assuming what President Trump has said or what he should say - he is acutely aware that this is MORE than a contrived pandemic, he knows this is an attempted coup against him. President Trump's economic success is his power and this is the NWO globalist attack on "his" economy. They will stop at nothing to destroy him. They do not care about ANY life being lost, it's okay with them. Read the Georgia Guidestones for the real agenda - you will see that depopulation is also a huge part of any pandemic that is released on the world.

This is directed to AlfaMan, but anybody can chime in.

The Chicoms locked down millions of people in every city they have. They were not nice about it. And this bug still went through their people like chit through a wild goose. It was like Corona Chan took a big steel pole and jammed it into the mighty cogs of Chinese industry. Things came to a screeching halt. Sick people don't work.

What do we have in our bag of tricks that is any better than what they had? What makes our response better and more effective?

We are a divided nation at the moment and I think that has to factor into any large scale response to the pandemic. We also have a Second Amendment the Chicoms don't.

Thoughts?

He's mobilised the HHS, public health service, CDC, NIH. He's brought the full medical weight of the Us's best and brightest to bear on the problem. Also, There are about 10500 ventilators in the SNS, in 15 warehouses around the country. More being bought probably. The funding should help buy more.
How fast can they make them, and what parts come from China?

Trump should have taken a more cautious approach. He may have lost his re-election.
I can't get over how he approached this.
I'm stunned...
The contrarian might offer that there are publicly unknown technical hows and whys behind this coronavirus outbreak, particularly with regards to the Chinese pandemic, that are not being articulated at this time.

I know President Trump said they can quarantine, but whether or not they can do it successfully in the US is another thing. I'm betting that it can't be done. Unlike China, US citizens are better armed and some would bribe, bully, or otherwise escape.

Wow! I'm quite surprised by the tone on this thread. Healthcare for the past 35 years. Management of Infection Control for 15 years. SARS was a great primer for this. It promoted every hospital in the US to get ready for a pandemic. IF this turns into a true pandemic, we are as prepared as possible. Politicians are contributing to the "panic". If we panic that's when we lose control. Keep thinking rationally not emotionally. Use your head!

Had the President been all hair on fire over this, the media might have stopped in their tracks and started to back peddle their panic JUST to be the opposite of the hated one.

I wonder if his calm manner belies the real truth and this is the only way to get that truth out there by letting the media run amok.

Yup, that's ESF-8. There is a lot of reading on it, and NIMS in general. Pres. Trump putting this ball of wax into motion says that he is doing far more than people are giving him credit for.

Trump can do the same thing the ChiComs have done. We have the advantage of lower numbers of cases and more information on the coronavirus than the Chinese had starting out. We also have a vaccine in progress, it may be a year beore it's used but it's still more than what the chinese have even now. Those are edges we have over what they have. Plus we can implement varying degrees of quarantine/emergency response from a macro/country wide level to a micro/ 2 streets in a town response rather than just willy nilly shut down entire regions at one time. And we have people nationwide trained in this ESF. Our response won't be reacting to events; it is a proactive approach that will get better results.
The divided nation we are will be less of an issue I believe. People scared are scared without party or political belief. The US response will involve LE assets as needed, so if someone gets froggy with a bang bang they can be dealt with quickly.
That's my thoughts on your question. Great question by the way!

Our hygiene is much better
We use toilet paper and do not wipe out butts with rags or our barehands
We teach to wash after using toilet
We teach not to spit
We do not eat everything that walks, flies, slithers, crawls

Today's ventilators are highly computerized. If needed, you can pull old Bird vents out of mothballs. Unfortunately, the old style therapists are retired or rapidly retiring.
