Back when they were announcing they were quarantining Wuhan, I looked at a picture of the city and thought, "A city of corpses." Similar to looking at one of the cruise ships and thinking, "ship of death." There was no surprise when the pictures of flocks of crows started showing up. Now even the seagulls are coming because of the smell. I'll stop there.

The message from the U.S. Embassy says people who decline to take this flight "will be unable to return to the United States for a period of time." The CDC will determine for how long, it said

Japan has found at least 285 cases of #COVID19 on #DiamondPrincess. Hasn't tested most of 3700 aboard. US will test Americans during evacuation process starting Sunday. Canada now has health officials in Japan. Other nations looking at evacuation options.

#DiamondPrincess captain announces passengers might have to wait 3 days for test results. If tested on 18th, results on 21 (then can go). Japan can't test all in one day. Crew would go last. More than 1000 Japanese aboard won't get home for several days yet. #COVID19

If those people got a mild case the first time around and were sensitized, like those mice with the SARS vaccine, their lungs would have 'exploded' with cytokine activity the second time around. This is pure speculation, of course!)

Regardless, if this is true, this is a game-changer. Usually you can rely on the immunity of those who recover from a pandemic to provide roadblocks - or at least speed-bumps - to the spread of a pathogen in the future. You also have a group of people that can get back to work in safety and keep things going while the next wave of people recover. If we have to quarantine the recovered as well as the non-exposed, and if there's sensitization instead of immunity... Wow. I don't even know where to start calculating the effects on the epidemiology of this virus.

This also has really bad implications for the potential development of a vaccine.



ETA: okay, after catching up on the last dozen pages, looks like A) the report re. the second infection being worse is on the dodgy side and refers to heart failures specifically, and B) a ton of people got there before me. :D

You have articulated the worst-case scenario and have done so with clear thinking, especially at 2:21 AM when just a few of us are left sitting around the campfire. Sometimes evil is easier to recognize at this time, and you may well have pegged this one. Let's hope this isn't the case.

Wonder who made $ on that advice (local market?). As for the UV, it specifically was with regard to using on one's skin. As for the mail and packages, I consider that an outright light so as not to scare people. That's my $0.02 on that crappy article.

I just want to say that I have been a member since 2004 and this is, without a doubt, the most exhausting thread I have ever seen.

It affects everyone, so to stay 100% informed I must read ( albeit briefly ) every post. That takes me about 4 hours when I get up...

Then, by the time I get home from work... there are another 4 hours of posts to catch up on...

It is 0518 hours and I am just now at the end of this thread.

BUT...

I intend to bring myself and my family out of this alive.

Outside of the CDC and WHO ( who are not telling us the whole story ) I don't think that there are more informed people on the planet than the membership here ( and that includes the leaders of many countries ).

You can buy them new on Amazon without a prescription. Of course you are probably talking medical grade equipment that you would need a prescription for so I'm not sure if the ones on Amazon would qualify.

As Lipsitch says on the previous post “Vaccine efforts are very much needed, but I think we should be clear that they won’t necessarily succeed. There’s a lot of effort being put into them, but not every disease has a vaccine.”

This is the kind of thing I'm watching for. Right now, I'm not worried about outside of China because most cases (especially here in the US) are those returning from China and are in quarantine. I've been watching for activation within the general population who hasn't been to China or connected to family from China.

Probably semantics related to the declaration of the State of Emergency that we are in. As in, no assistance given to get home and quarantine if you show up at a port of entry.

but often times, state of emergency declarations enable government actions that would otherwise not be allowed. That’s why they are declared.

Hate to tell you, but this happens in Chinese meat markets every day. That is if they are kind enough to kill the dog before they begin skinning it. And thanks for trying, but I will never watch your video or look at the pictures.

There are ways around everything. Do you have any handicapped friends? Theirs may get stolen and they will have to replace it. There are man's laws and God's laws. Making things like the oxygen machines and Big Berkey illegal are BS laws and you have to act accordingly to protect yourself or a family member.

And there are plenty of places that sell them, like Amazon and I have yet to be asked for a prescription. There is also Craigslist and similar places where you can pick up all sorts of stuff.

For some reason I can imagine any apartment building built in China over the last 20 years has motion detector light-switches rather than manual.

*It doesn't matter!!!*

It has to do with the ability of the alcohol to penetrate the outer "shell" or "coat" of the virus. The water component is essential to this. Anything higher than about 80% doesn't penetrate, and thus doesn't kill the virus.

This is similar to bleach solutions used for sanitizing... it *is* possible to use too much bleach. The recommended dilutions have been studied and worked out in labs, taking into account such variables as organic matter contamination, surface types and ambient temperature.

Believe them!

I think o2 concentrators need regular calibration. Not sure the details but a service tech would check it every month. Took 2 minutes from start to finish.
