Just listened to the local news on tv. They said the quarantined people in Camp Ashland were riding to the U S with the person who has it at the Texas Base, forgot what that one is called. Anyway they said the people are scheduled at Camp Ashland to be released in 6 days! I would hope they don’t release them if they were riding with the other person!

I have speculated that this virus may be being used by the government to tighten their grip on power.

After the protests in Hong Kong, there were some within mainland China, coincidentally enough, they were centered in Wuhan. Now, I have read 100% of the organizers of the protest and many of those who participated have all been "quarantined".

Stalin and Mao killed tens of millions of their own people to retain power... Why do we think Xi may not be capable of the same?
And will our government do such things using the same or similar cover.

According to reports, this thing has an HIV sequence imputed into it, so if one gets infected with this virus, and survives, do they end up with HIV for the rest of their lives? Apologies if this question has already been asked and answered. It’s hard to keep up with all the info. Thanks.

Can we all just move on from the discussion of writing styles, please? As far as I know, I’m the one who posted about it here first, so I’m requesting that we all get back on topic. Old Archer and I are good. :)

Thank you. Carry on.
Call me weird but I found his writing style interesting! Especially about the snake, it made me think deeper!

I believe the flight stopped in Miramar, then Lackland, then Ashland.

No. It is not even infused. The proteins in the envelope were believed to possible form a functional attachment to CD-4 Cells (T-lymphocytes) allowing the virus to essentially attack them like they do the lungs. This was only believed to be the case when protein folding models were run. There is a component of lymphopenia in patients so there may be some effect but it should resolve when the virus is cleared.

Thank you, that’s good to know. Really appreciate it. Kind of hard to keep up with all the reports and science of it all.

Rule in the Time of Coronavirus AKA Springtime for Hitler

Xi Jinping may also be thinking of it as an opportunity. Remember that Xi is part of political party that killed an estimated 65 million of its own people, and was happy to put a couple of million Uighers in concentration camps in order to reeducate them about their racial inferiority to the Chinese. They had to hold off tiananmening a few thousand Hong Kong activists only because too much of the world was watching and too much money is at stake.
But now? Now they’ve got tens of millions of people under quarantine, they’re reportedly burning thousands of bodies that died from the virus without reporting them, so many that they’re showing up on satellite photos mapping particulates. With the quarantine and even heavier than usual censorship, the communist government has ideal circumstances for score-settling and purging “subversive” elements.
Imagine how many activists and “agitators” they can make disappear in that chaos, not to mention people with low “social creditâ” scores. And the need to cremate bodies quickly means no one needs ever know that their actual cause of death was acute lead poisoning. The plague ensures it will be a while before their relatives come looking for them. Maybe they can’t get away with it in Hong Kong, but they can certainly get away with it in the “hot zone.”

I think a large factor on how bad it gets in the U.S. will be if the power stays on,
That's one of the issues that's been on my mind. I don't think I've heard any mention of power being off in China but I've had to skip several pages in this thread.

So---let me get this straight.

We have a member who claims to be a horse. (but that's ok--I like horses)

We have members who do their best to live up to their on-screen names and "snipe" at everyone. (and that's ok--that's their privilege)

We have "panic-sex" members (and I LOVE it, Helen!) :)

We have MANY members--of all KINDS of persuasions--who think the rest of us are going to hell. (and all of whom will be sources of great amusement to the rest of us in heaven when they find the rest of us there)

.....and we can't tolerate someone who'd decided to adopt a new on-screen persona somewhere between Jed Clampett, Uncle Joe (Petticoat Junction), and Grandpa Walton?

.....

REALLY, folks?

The world may well be entering its darkest days.

I, for one, appreciate the slightly humorous distraction of "folksy" words of wisdom.

Can we lighten up and just accept each other--each with our own weirdnesses?

To me, that's what makes this place great, and all of us a FAMILY.

After all, it's not THAT hard to just shake your head and move on to the NEXT post, if it's that aggravating to you.
Mighty big words.........for a mouse. Couldn't resist. Nice summation.

Chinese Man Covers Himself with Firecrackers, Gasoline After Coronavirus Cancels His Birthday Party

A 59-year-old man in Chongqing, China, is facing criminal charges for threatening to kill himself with firecrackers and gasoline because his birthday party was canceled by officials worried about the coronavirus epidemic.

Reuters on Wednesday summarized reports of the odd case from Chinese state media:
The resident of the southwestern city of Chongqing planned a birthday banquet for more than ten tables of guests on Jan. 28, the state-run agency said on Wednesday, but local officials battling the outbreak asked him to cancel the plan.
But on Jan. 26, after the man failed to convince them to let the party go ahead, he wrapped firecrackers round his waist, poured gasoline on his chest and held up a lighter, trying to threaten them into agreeing.

“The actions prevented town and village cadres from carrying out epidemic prevention and control work,” Xinhua said, adding that 10 patients visiting a clinic on a lower level of the same building had also been affected.
It was not immediately clear what kind of penalties the man would face if convicted.
According to other reports quoted by the U.K. Daily Mail, the man argued with local officials, then threatened to immolate himself in an effort to “scare and threaten the village committee into allowing the birthday party.” Prosecutors have charged him with disorderly conduct.

China has imposed widespread bans against large gatherings and public activities to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

One of the early missteps in the virus saga was an enormous annual banquet with thousands of participants that was allowed to proceed in the city of Wuhan a few days before the Chinese government admitted the virus could be spread by human contact and decided to quarantine the entire city.

I've not seen any discussion about re-aquiring the virus. Say you get it, you have medical assistance and you beat it. Have you now built resistance? Or are you fresh meat as soon as you walk out the door. How often can you catch it?

Be a son of a gun if this thing just hung around the hood, going back and forth, till it gotcha.

How's that work? Do we have a viable idea, or do we wait and see? Will China fill in this blank?

Thanks for the report, summerthyme, Hubby had to go somewhere today, he stopped at a Walmart in Fairlawn, VA. He said there was a huge display of elderberry products right in the middle of the store. Added more to the prepps.
I've got Sambucol (and other items) on Subscribe & Save from Amazon now; it's about $3 cheaper that way than what I just grab at Walmart.

There isn't a lot of study on this with Covid-19 but they did have some studies for SARS. I would imagine the pathology would be the same.

What was found was that it was what I would call "shock kidneys". With this virus you get a progressive shortness of breath over the first week to 10 days of symptoms (average, some earlier--some later). As PO2 (the blood gas value--for home use lets talk about it as the pulse-ox reading) drops, less oxygen is able to cross the damaged alveoli into the blood. This causes hypoxia. The lack of oxygen begins to damage all of the organs. It is made worse by the body's attempts to shunt blood flow to the heart and brain as they are the most sensitive to hypoxia. The liver, kidneys, bowels, etc. become ischemic. Without oxygen the body reverts to the production of lactic acid for its energy need instead of aerobic respiration. Blood pH drops, the patient becomes acidotic and without correction will die.

Often times at this point steroids may be a last-ditch effort to help. We would be pushing IV fluids, pressors like epinephrine or dopamine to keep blood pressure up to protect the organs. The patient would be definitely intubated or, if needed and available, placed on ECMO.

Now, lets focus on the kidney problem. When it doesn't get enough oxygen the cells in the renal tubules begin to die. These cells are what line the nephron and help to control the excretion of waste and reabsorbtion of things you don't want to lose. They will die and sluough off into the urine. This is called Acute Tubular Necrosis. A good marker for this is urine output. If it falls below about 400ml in a 24hr period the patient will need dialysis. Because the cells are dead/dying/sloughing off protein--something your body wants to readsorb--spills out into the urine. This is a tell tell sign of damage to the kidney. It can take several weeks for the kidneys to begin to heal and there will likely be some degree of permanent impairment from the injury. In SARS the involvment was a HUGE marker in the severity of the disease. Of those that got an acute kidney injury 92% died vs. 8% who died without kidney injury. Thus it is important to keep the organs well perfused to improve survival. IV fluids for blood pressure, supplemental oxygen for hypoxemia are critical supportive measures.

I don't understand a thing you write but it sure is nice having you here...

#Breaking: #China’s National Health Commission reports roughly HALF A MILLION citizens have had close contact with confirmed cases of #coronavirus! Considering the massive transmission rates of this beast, China hasn’t seen ANYTHING YET... #COVID19

Half a million... With an R0 calculated as high as a 6.7...

Oooooh, boy... The WHO said as many as 5 BILLION ( with a "B" ) might catch this.

They may be right...

#Shanghai has prevented 3,251 passengers in 1,781 vehicles from entering the city in the past 3 days. People without jobs or fixed residences in Shanghai are not allowed to enter amid the #COVID19 outbreak: local traffic police

That is just insane, to me...

They have, effectively, cut off a city of more than 24 million people...

Rather sad to see that OldArcher has been a prolific poster on this thread and hasn't posted since 6:09 am today (11:14 PST for me as I write this.) Kindness and sensitivity goes a long way, and words can't be taken back. I'd hate to see another exodus from a thread. Considering we all ( or many) might be dead in the coming days, weeks, months, how about we try to be kind and considerate to one another. Those of us who might have valued OA's input now may have lost it due to excessive criticism and downright bullying. Scroll if someone bothers you, please. Don't tear them down and pile on till they're driven away. In over 20 years here, I've seen it happen too many times. I had an eye stroke. Reading is very difficult, but I don't demand people change how they post to accommodate my problem. I would certainly never demand someone with a brain stroke who struggles with posting to conform to my liking. As an RN, I'm acutely aware of some of the sequela of a stroke. The first biblical principal I remember being taught was The Golden Rule- do unto other's as you'd have done unto you. Do any of us want to be piled on for how we word our posts? Again, let's try to be kind and understanding as we may not have much time or the opportunity to mend fences.

From what I have read, it is a constant state of mutation, so while you do build resistance it does not mean you can't catch it, again.

How many times can you catch it?

How many times have you caught a cold?

Or...

As many times as it takes for you to be dead,

Made my first batch of elderberry syrup today. Added a few things to the mix. Cinamin, cloves, echinace, goldenrod, ginger, turmeric and cayenne pepper. Used the recipe but brought it up to steaming before I added the honey. That shit stinks! It taste good fortunately. Thanks summerthym.
