HEALTH Pain relief oil... any interest? UPDATE- Prices post #62

Guys... I've studied herbs, health and alternative medicine for years. In an effort to help both hubby and I get relief from various injuries as well as the aches and pains of getting older, I've experimented with various combinations of essential oils for topical use, and have come up with a recipe that has proven very effective for us, and many others who have tried it.

It's not cheap to make... the base oil is jojoba oil, which is the oil most similar to human sebum, so it absorbs quickly and without feeling "greasy"... we often use it at night and it absorbs so fast that there isn't any greasy staining of bed sheets or clothing. The problem is, the stuff costs about a buck an ounce, by itself!

And I don't even like to think about the cost of the oils!

But anyway... for things like old fractures, inflammatory pain (hubby often has specific spots in his spine and sacrum that create so much inflammation it feels like you could fry eggs on his skin) and both chronic and acute muscular-skeletal pain, it often works better than the Rx meds or NSAIDs, allowing us to relax and get a good night's sleep.

It also works really well to reduce swelling and pain in acute sprains, strains, etc...

Hubby often has me apply it to his spine at mid-day so he can keep working through the afternoon. It has a pleasant, distinctive odor which doesn't scream "I used BenGay!" like many of the commercial rubs... LOL!

I don't know whether or not it would be useful for fibromylagia or severe arthritis... It did give hubby quite a bit- but not complete- relief for his hip pain when it was bone-on-bone before his hip replacement, but I haven't really tested it on arthritic joints much.

I wish I could offer to just send it to anyone for free to try, but we're dead broke. Shipping costs are going to be the biggie. I should be able to break even on a 1 ounce glass bottle shipped in a padded envelope for about $12. Obviously, larger amounts would be much less expensive per ounce

If anyone is interested in trying it, PM me and we'll arrange it.

Having lived with chronic pain for too many decades, I really am amazed at how well this stuff works for us.

I'll take whatever size you feel like making, but ONLY if there is a good profit in it for you.

I'll buy one to try. Make sure you check weight and shipping rates before you decide completely on a price. One of my little soap bags cost a minimum of $3.68-$4.06 to ship, depending on where the buyer lives. They now have zone prices, so its not the same price for everyone.

Oops! I missed the pm part. ;) Will do.

Thank you making the offer...I’m very interested. And I know shipping to AK may be bad, but using the flat rate boxes at the post office might possibly help. Either way, I’m in. Thanks again :)

Yes... shipping has gotten ridiculous. If I could only get Amazon's deal!

I have a couple of quarts made up... a little goes quite a long way, with a half teaspoon or so being plenty for most applications. And I have enough ingredients on hand to make at least a couple quarts more. All I need is to order the appropriate size bottles. Amazon is actually the cheapest source, unless i wanted to order a pallet!

I could make a small profit if i could get $15 for the small, 1 oz bottle, but as I said, I can definitely give a better deal per ounce on larger sizes... shipping doesn't increase proportionately, especially if I can use their flat rate shipping boxes.

Obviously, it would make me happy to bring in a little extra money doing this, but I really want to try to help people who are suffering... and getting more data on where it works- or doesn't work- is valuable as well.

I've shipped it before, and never had any problem about it being liquid... they ask, but then shrug. ???

I'm going to run a current cost per ounce, as I haven't purchased the oils in a couple years, and will PM those who have responded with size/cost options. Might be tomorrow morning, depending on how the rest of the day goes here.

Thank you, everyone!

LOL! Yeah, I get it...

Hmmm... I've also made an essential oil blend in Epsom Salts that hubby loves for a soaking bath. It wouldn't be economical to ship, but I wonder if I could blend the oils so people could mix them with their own Epsom Salts... WalMart has the best price, since shipping makes wholesale quantities stupidly expensive...

Rafter... PM me please, so your request won't get lost. I'll post here tomorrow a basic price list for various sizes, and shipping costs. I've checked my supplies and have enough of all the oils, etc, I need to make about 3 quarts, so I should be able to cover most folks right away, although I think I may need more shipping boxes unless many want to pay a but more for the flat rate shipping which is priority mail... I guess these days, if you want your mail to be a priority, you need to bribe them! LOL

I need to see if my Paypal is still active... and I need to solve my e-mail issues, probably first. For some reason, after 12 years of having the same e-mail password, Windstream decided it was invalid. However, they offered to send it to my e-mail for me! No wonder they're going bankrupt! I've been avoiding the gigantic PITA of needing to deal with some non-English speaking moron to get it fixed, but I guess I can't put it off any longer.

Thank you all for your kind words and generous offers and acceptance. As I told an Amish friend a few weeks ago, I think I was born to be a healer... I've been doing this stuff since I was three, when I remember bringing hone a baby rabbit with a broken leg, and my Mom helped me splint it and heal it. There are times I do wish I'd gone on for more schooling, but
God had other plans, and I've always believed I've been in His will for my life, regardless of whether it was the conventional "right" thing to do.

I'll get busy in the morning and post details, and then I can start finalizing a list of who wants what, and how much.

Also... I REALLY want feedback from you guys! And if it's negative... it's still welcome. Nothing works on everyone or everything, and except for the fact that I chose several of the oils for their anti-inflammatory properties, I honestly don't know how this stuff works. I just know it does...

I definitely prefer Paypal - so easy for buyer and for seller!

Also, Summerthyme, AMEN. Years of reading your wisdom has made a believer out of me - more than any degree.

Summerthyme,
My wife had pain for more than 15 years and she died in 2011. I made up a formula which has 10 different essential oil‘s. My formula has worked on multiple people, but not everyone.

There was a thread on turpentine a month or so ago and I was the fellow who replied very technically to the thread regarding the essential oil or terpene industry. I understand or rather have been exposed to chemical complexity of this industry and know that you are onto the right track by offering a blend that helps pain.

Some of the ingredients to my formula or rather difficult to obtain. But most of them could be purchased from Whole Foods or online from a wholesale seller of a essential oils. Make sure when you package your blend that you use a deep color bottle Because all of these oil’s will react and polymerize with sunlight. A deep purple or deep brown color small bottle would be good.

I would love to purchase a bottle of your material. I would also be willing to share some of my knowledge with you to help you. Thank you for offering your formula/blend to our members.

Thanks, White Sunlight. Yes, I've always used the amber glass bottles for my herb oils and tinctures. I don't like plastic... its too permeable for long storage, and you definitely need light protection.

I've had excellent results purchasing my EOs from New Direction Aromatics.. they are really more of a commercial supplier (a bit larger minimum order than most people want to spend, although it's easy to reach with essential oils... good ones are nit cheap!, but their quality is excellent and their packaging is really first rate.

This particular recipe has been evolving for years... it started as a livestock salve, using powdered whole turmeric root with the EOs, which worked amazingly well, but stained everything it touched bright orange! Not really suitable for people!

The first time I used it, we'd had a 2 year old heifer go down after calving, and it took a couple dsys before i realized it wasnt a pinched nerve from calving.. she'd somehow gotten a back leg injured, and had torn all the ligaments in her hock. The vet told us to shoot her.. he showed me how you could move the joint in every direction! Definitely not a good sign, especially as cows don't use crutches!

Still, I'm stubborn, and don't like shooting cows, especially young ones who haven't even started paying all the money is cost to raise them! So I concocted this salve, slathered it on the massively swollen leg and applied a soft cast. I was impressed when she started eating again that evening... a sign the pain was lessened.

I was shocked when the cast fell off 4 days later... the swelling had reduced by at least half, and she was starting to bear weight on it. Applied more salve, put a lighter support wrap on it, and salved and rewrapped it for a month.

At the end of the month, she was completely sound, and there was just the slightest thickness around the joint. She lived to 12 years old and never had a problem with the leg.

We used that salve a lot (including on my son when he dislocated an elbow in football... it went back in place, abd we didnt have any insurance, so i treated him just like the cow, with similar results... he reported that it helped the pain immensely)

But because of the staining, it wasn't really practical for people. And then i discovered that you can buy turmeric essential oil... and it's colorless!

I guess the rest is history.

I gave my hired hand a bottle when he tore ligaments in his thumb, and soon all his little brothers and sisters were carryibg small bottles around, applying it to every bump and bruise. They can be so funny sometimes!

So...I've tweaked the recipe a bit over the years, but it has quite a following in the Amish community, both for peopke and livestock. I'm looking forward to comments and critiques from the members here...

Summer, I would like to try it also. I do have one question though. I'm not asking for your entire ingredient list, but I do need to know if your formula contains any Aloe or Melaluca/Tea Tree oil. I am extremely allergic.

I don't suffer from any physically painful ailments, though my shoulders are so tight from tossing barn wood around that they threaten to pop my head clean off my spine.

BUT I am a fan, and would be delighted to show support in any way helpful to you.
Why you've no books published is a mystery to me, btw.

Anyway, don't need the product and Don't wish to deprive those who do...but do love the
Idea of tangible support for you...

No, it doesn't have any tea tree. But I'm my own worst enemy. I label it with an ingredient list... jyst not exact proportions, and maybe not in order of amounts used! LOL! I just can't see not labeling it, given the prevalence of allergies out there. And yes, I know it means someone will probably steal the recipe, and with my luck, get rich because they've got contacts, and I've got cows! :-)

same here, please.

Same here, please, Summerthyme. You should make some money on this, a quality product is worth much more than $12/oz. Add the cost of the bottle/dropper and the shipping materials, and of COURSE add the shipping costs.

Yes me too! Would be interesting to see if it might help some of my husbands fibro pain. If you have any cures for sleep that would be helpful too. Lol we have been trying various herbal blends for hubby, none seem to work super good.
