Dozens arrested as second night of St. Louis protests turns violent

Police in St. Louis are bracing Sunday for a third day of protests following the acquittal of a white former police officer in the fatal shooting of a black man.

A small group of protesters who refused to disperse Saturday night clashed with cops as protests turned violent for a second night in a row.

The protesters broke windows at dozens of businesses and threw objects at police, who moved in and made nine arrests. More than 30 protesters were arrested Friday.


Radio talk show host Kevin Jackson told "Fox & Friends" Sunday that the protests weren’t helpful.

“These types of incidents don’t help” in trying to prevent St. Louis’ issues, which include a shrinking population and businesses leaving the city, he said. “The root cause is that young black kids don’t have their fathers, their families.”

Saturday's confrontation took place in the Delmar Loop of the St. Louis suburb of University City -- known for concert venues, restaurants, shops and bars. The area had been the scene of a peaceful march earlier in the evening to protest a judge's ruling Friday clearing ex-Officer Jason Stockley of first-degree murder in the 2011 shooting of 24-year-old Anthony Lamar Smith. That march ended with organizers calling for people to leave and reconvene Sunday afternoon.

Organizers are planning to hold a "die in" on Sunday at 3 p.m. near St. Louis Police headquarters on Olive Street, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

But the small group that stayed behind drew hundreds of police in riot gear, who moved in and ordered them to leave.

A reporter for The Associated Press found at least half of the businesses on one side of the street with broken windows along a two block area.

Sam Thomas, who was helping his friend clean up the glass from the shattered windows of his business, OSO, a clothing and accessories boutique, said he understood why people were angry. The U.S. justice system is broken and needs to be fixed, Thomas said.

"I'm not saying this is the right way to fix it," he said of the damage.

"The window isn't murdered. Nobody is going to have a funeral for the window. We can replace it."


Earlier Saturday, demonstrations consisted mostly of marching and chanting through University City in a change from Friday evening’s violence, which saw 11 police officers injured – several by bricks tossed from the crowd – and the smashing of windows at the home of Mayor Lyda Krewson.


Krewson wasn’t home at the time, but family members were. She called the vandalism “irritating.”

“These are not the images we want to see of our city,” Krewson said at a news conference Saturday, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. “We have some work to do here.”

Stockley’s trial came in the wake of the August 2014 shooting death of Michael Brown in nearby Ferguson, Mo., another police-involved death that sparked days of unrest in that town and elsewhere. The white officer in that case did not face charges.

Friday’s violence in St. Louis prompted the cancellation of concerts planned by rock band U2 on Saturday and singer Ed Sheeran on Sunday. Other events were postponed or canceled as well, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

Earlier Friday, FOX2 in St. Louis captured video of an elderly woman being knocked down and trampled by riot police. That woman, who was unidentified, was charged with "interfering," St. Louis police tweeted Saturday.

On Saturday, U2 frontman Bono issued a statement on Instagram about the cancellation and about the events transpiring in St. Louis, Variety reported.

“Deeply saddened at what has happened in St. Louis and having to cancel our show tonight,” Bono’s statement read. “I found myself reading Dr. King’s speech from the National Cathedral and asking myself is this 1968 or 2017?”

St. Louis police said 33 people were arrested in connection with Friday’s protests. In addition to the mayor’s home, there was also damage to two police vehicles, the St. Louis Public Library and 10 businesses in the city’s Central West End, police said.

b) can't take care of
c) won't take care of

We have completely destroyed the black family unit and are doing our best to finish off everyone else. More and more children are being born out of wedlock with the fathers mostly absent and/or not contributing. The "let the taxpayers take care of things" attitude is prevalent and it's only getting worse. I'm not a proponent for abortion but I do think anyone capable of reproducing that's on any form of government assistance should be on mandatory birth control. We continue to excuse the savage behavior of certain demographics and then wonder why they continue to spiral in what appears to be reverse evolution.

A more likely scenario in my mind is one like Doz posted months ago from another individual who slapped together a hypothetical, viable short story depicting pissed off people hammering a gathering of rioting hooligans with suppressed small caliber fire.

All individuals, with whom I speak of "current events", are pissed beyond the pale at the continuing BS taking place in the streets of FUSA.

Either an organized, planned attack will occur or..... (the most likely of all IMO)

such group will encounter the wrong person(s) at the wrong time and rather than running or cowering said person(s) will open fire with extreme prejudice and an assload of ammunition.

Agreed. I was using "we" as a universal "we" in that we (again, the universal "we") have allowed this to happen. Like you, I was quite young when the Civil Rights Act was passed and certainly too young to take aim at LBJ - although someone should have done us that favor. Way back, people should have stood up and said this is not acceptable - both blacks and whites. However, when it gets boiled down, it's the liberal doctrine that has put black "families" where they are (or where they aren't, if you will). More handouts = more government dependence. More government dependence = more votes when they are promised the world. It never seems to dawn on them that they have been fed empty promises for decades now and what do they have to show for it? Hight incarceration rates, higher unemployment rates, higher dropout rates... the list goes on. They seem to be their own worst enemy. How they can be content to be thrown scraps to barely sustain them is beyond me. Why would anyone want to be strapped with a bunch of kids that they can't take care of? It's not like they don't know where babies come from. If I were in that position, I would want my children to get out of that cycle. Clearly there are enough programs in place to make that happen if one makes the choice to do so. They sure seem to know how to milk the system but turn a blind eye to getting out of it.
The end result is that we have them and their sympathizers roaming the streets making ridiculous demands. While they are waiting for those demands to be met, they look, maim, vandalize, you name it. And somehow that's supposed to rally America to their cause? I think not. It makes me wish the police had better aim and would take more of them out. It's pathetic to see any group rallying around a convicted heroine dealer who tried to run over a law enforcement officer. How did we get to this point? Even 20 years ago, they would have been shut down and the destruction of property would have resulted in the arrest of a whole lot more than a few dozen. For sure it would not be cause célèbre. Maybe what we need are a couple of Kent State events. I don't see this getting any better any time soon.

And I might question whether the US Justice System is broken. From where this horse stands it appears to have worked just fine. A majority of those around the courthouse may not agree - but they are a mob - and not an inquest.

Law seems to have deemed the officer NOT GUILTY - and this is for them to know and for you to find out - and accept.

And if you don't - you had better be prepared for the consequences of living under RULE OF LAW:tm:.

I can remember being a kid back in the very early 60's watching the civil rights marches and my parents talking about it all. I remember my father telling my mother that a black guy he worked with had told him "my people are not responsible enough to deal with freedom - they are not ready to be free"

They busted out some more windows tonight. Police announced that this was no longer a peaceful protest and for everyone to disperse.

One thing that must be pointed out.

The vast majority of the Africans in the FUSA,
and worldwide for that matter, absoultely hate the White race,
and if you are White, a good portion of them want you dead.

They are born with a gigantic chip on their shoulder
because they were born African, and in the FUSA
there is the additional stigma of slavery,
which the FUSA is never going to be allowed to
put into its past.

Therefore the participants in these particular riots
are very willing to do so, without much recruitment.

I fully expect some major event, where bunches of people
end up dead, will be the catalyst to start the festivities.
These types of riots will do nothing, for the nationwide
movement to start the unavoidable race war.

There needs to be another St. Martin, St. Brown,
or St. Gray event. Then FUSA will be off to the races.

They boxed them in on four sides and moved in and made mass arrests, incl youtube streamer/observers. There is a 4 minute clip of RebZtv getting ziptied and screaming. But they locked the city back down. All hands on deck, busloads of State Troopers, County, City, armored vehicles, choppers. St. Louis is still "intact" enough as a functioning metropolis that they don't want a Portland warzone to deal with. 3 days seems tolerance limits have been reached. Mayor/Governor in agreement

Some twitters are out that those who ran away and avoided arrest downtown are calling for 7:00 am morning commute shut down to gather at Market St. in a few hours. Its never ending.

It was the Schlafly Library that had its glass doors busted and they trashed the inside. Perhaps triggered by the name off the branch?

This is a picture of the "die in" on the street they held outside the police station, note how the demographic is different from the running street battles that go on after darkness falls. You can go replay the youtube streams and see its a different element at work after 10 pm. The students and progressive whites get used as the "reasonable" face by the media of the protest but those smashing windows and setting fires later on are the action oriented wing, under protective cover of darkness and committing crimes in their name. St. Louis is still a rattled cage.

More than 80 arrested as riot police break up St. Louis protest over officer's acquittal

ST. LOUIS (Reuters) - More than 80 people were arrested on Sunday night as protests in St Louis over the acquittal of a white policeman who had shot a black man turned violent for a third night running.

Police in riot gear used pepper spray and arrested the demonstrators who had defied orders to disperse following a larger, peaceful protest.

After nightfall, a small group remained and the scene turned to one of disorder, following the pattern of Friday and Saturday. Protesters smashed windows and attempted to block a ramp to an interstate highway, police and witnesses said.

Officers tackled some protesters who defied police orders and used pepper spray before starting the mass arrests.

At a late-night news conference, Mayor Lyda Krewson noted that “the vast majority of protesters are non-violent,” and blamed the trouble on “a group of agitators.”

Acting police commissioner Lawrence O‘Toole struck a hard stance, saying: “We’re in control, this is our city and we’re going to protect it.”

How about dye only visible under black light? According to Ben Shapiro, Antifa's MO is to infiltrate a crowd, suddenly pull up a mask, create mayhem, destruction and violence, then unmask and blend back into the crowd. A few LE with Black lights might be able to ID the offenders?
