GUNS/RLTD "Here we go again !" Bud's Gun Shop ALERT on Current High Demand, Supply & Pricing

Just received an e-mail alert from Bud's Gun Shop concerning VERY high sales volume...right-now...in the middle of February, and their advice on guns/ammo buying now and on into 2012.

~~~
After spending the first six weeks of 2012 attending various firearms industry shows, including the NSSF Shot Show in Las Vegas with the highest dealer attendance of record, there was one obvious recurring theme from every manufacturer we visited with...."we just can't make enough firearms". Although we fully expected another surge later in 2012, it has already started as the ATF continues to report all time record highs in background/NICS checks as well as Conceal Carry/CCW permit applications.
We are also experiencing record high sales on www.budsgunshop.com, actually breaking our all time single day sales records TWICE this month ! Considering we had no special promotions going on, and we exceeded every sales record dating all the way back to 2003, it seems pretty clear ......"Here we go again !"
As the national media and general public become increasingly aware of the deteriorating supply and demand issues.....we ALL know what comes next....higher prices ! Although upsetting to most people, it can also be an amazing opportunity for those who are in a position to buy "early and often". Whether you are an investor, collector, or reseller...you would be hard pressed to find a single more lucrative investment than firearms at this time. If you are not currently in a position to buy ?....you should still be very happy about the future appreciation in value of your current firearms collection !
To many customers, and even those outside the firearms industry, it would appear that gun dealers like us are primed and ready to take advantage of situations like this. Although there is admittedly opportunity during these times, it is nearly impossible for us to predict and adequately prepare for the sudden and extreme increases that can occur with nationwide internet sales. You do not have huge increases in sales without also having huge increases in phone calls, emails, shipping, etc.....so it can very quickly become overwhelming.
If you find yourself waiting on hold, or waiting on a reply to an email, please reference our active customer counter on the top right corner of our website. If you are attempting to contact us during a high volume time (over 2,500 customers online) you may want to wait until the volume decreases and try again later. For example, as we are sending you this email, the number of customers currently shopping on www.budsgunshop.com is over 3,000 !
<snip>
Here's the deal....it's probably going to get worse before it gets better. Every contact and indicator we have tells us that guns and ammo are selling MUCH faster than they can be manufactured. Our suppliers inventories are dropping drastically every day and they are already quoting 4-6 month back orders on all new orders !
Like it or not (and we don't)...."Here we go again !"
As more and more folks see that Obama has a good chance of being re-elected, the panic buying may ensue sooner than expected.
Now can we do the same with panic-sex? Early and often? ;)
Yeah - got that email from Bud's. Thankfully I panicked early!
Yes.
Everyone pay close attention to the very last paragraph in the e-mail that I just now scrolled down to and edited into the OP.
If distributors to vendors are warning of 4-6 month back-orders now, there will be empty shelves and high prices maybe before Spring-time?
As an editor, I'd have tried to include that tid-bit in the open! :shkr:
A few days ago I ordered a specific type of ammo that I like, that even under the best of times is hard to get. I found 1 place online that had any in stock. They had 5 cases available and I ordered 1. By the next morning, the other 4 were gone. Now I know that being a less common item it tends to move quickly, but still.
I see similar things at gun stores, sporting goods stores w/ firearm departments, and gun shows. Went to a show last weekend that was shoulder to shoulder tight, and people _were_ buying, not just looking. In at 11, out at 1:30 and at 1:30 there was a line in front of the ticket counter about 70-80 deep.
So these days, if there's something I want (both firearm and non-firearm, but still prep), and there's money in the budget now, I get it instead of saying "maybe later." It seems more and more often there isn't a later, or that later is many many months later.
I doubt that we have "many months" left....
That's what I was implying. The availability of certain things might be many months off, but we don't necessarily have the luxury of waiting that long if what everyone is expecting comes to pass before then.
So that's why when I see it now and can afford it, I get it now.
I'm thankful that in this regard at least, I have everything I need. I wish I still had the house and the preps. Oh well, I'll just have to make do when it all goes up.
I ain't so sure "we're" the one's buying all the firearms?
OWS has threatened to storm Wall Street and State Capitals with armed force in USA today.
Obamao is making strong, friendly overtones to the Latino community, and with La Raza and AZTLAN's support.
Throw in over a million black gangbangers, the muslim cells, the unions, and media support they'd have, not to mention the Universities.
Things could get dicey.
Just sayin' that I ain't too sure the Right is the only side arming, I suspect the Left is too.
One more factor, Bangor Daily News (Maine) reported gunstrores being swamped by people who are very concerned re huge uptick in home invasions by Rx drug addicts. Economy hits everyone, including druggies. Maine seeing epidemic of these crimes and gun ownership is largely unimpeded, so more taking advantage of that.
Agreed, and the "gutter" is too... just visit Cabella's for 15 minutes... the folks buying HALF the guns in there are not someone you would want to live next door to... or share your ammo with... :shk:
Speaking as a Wholesale Firearms Dealer, I will say to get what you need while you can. The rest of the world is in an arms and ammo buying frenzy. One large domestic ammo maker has such a large overseas contract that their commercial ammo is about on hold.
Remington components are becoming a thing of the past. For you reloaders, get primers, powder, bullets and shot NOW.
I heard a great internet rumor that Federal has military contracts, and will soon be ending sales of their LC ammo to the civilian market. I have no idea if this is true.
If it is then prices will double and supply will disappear.
You cut out the good part...
Our website prices fluctuate up and down often. The reason for these fluctuations is that we do NOT manually price our products based upon our actual cost of each product. Our philosophy is that it matters very little what we originally paid for any item, as the item is only worth what the market (= replacement value) is at the time of your purchase. To accomplish this, we use constantly updated data feeds from our many suppliers to calculate our current replacement cost. Therefore, our website prices will fluctuate both up and down (and mainly up this year) as our current replacement costs also fluctuates. We do NOT have people on staff manually changing prices of +32,000 website items every hour. This is all accomplished by automated cost analysis programs in an effort to offer you, our customer, the current lowest market price on each and every firearm we sell.
Quite a BS artist that wrote that. Translation, "why only mark our firearms up a set percent over what we paid for them when we can gouge our customers by charging based on what the next one is going to cost us." Sell your firearms for whatever you want, I don't much care but don't try to sell me a load of crap when you keep raising your prices as high as you can get away with.
The point of the post is to give my TB2K friends that did not receive the e-mail, (I think the secret is out mbabulldog!) the important info contained, confirming the current market and trends for guns and ammo.
Most all of us have experienced the frustrations of not being able to purchase the product you want and need when you're ready to buy.
With Guns & Ammo, in the last 20 or so years, at particularly troublesome times for the RTKBA, the early bird catches the worm (if the squiggly little MoFo is even out-there)...at the best price...period!
I'm not here to defend Bud's Gun Shop pricing and policies. The buying public determines if a particular dealers item price and customer service, warrants a purchase transaction at any given time. Apparently Bud's has a good reputation as a dealer considering the butt-load of product they sell and ship, and their feedback from their customers.
I don't know the West Virgina market, but I'm pretty familiar with the Oklahoma City market. Doing a gun/ammo deal with Bud's (and many other e-tail dealers) and a local FFLer, at any given time, is 'right-in-there' for a competitive deal on a firearm, as compared to our locals, H&H, Big Boy's, Mustang Gun and Pawn, Bass Pro, Academy, etc.
Buy where ever you'd like, if you want to buy. Simple.
Caught tail end of radio report begging for skilled gunsmiths to get up to Bigfork Montana, there is work up there if you have experience. Demand is way up. They could easily triple production with more manpower. We are gonna need the firepower.
Understand, guns are predicted to be in short supply, get while the getting is good.
Another factor in play here is the recent popularity of gun related shows on cable. A couple of years ago there were ZERO that weren't hunting related. Now you have Top Shot, Sons of Guns, American Guns and a few others.
What used to be called the "shooting subculture" is suddenly going VERY mainstream...
^This AND the fact that right now a lot of people are flush with money because of their tax returns hitting. Demand will still be up but I would think come May or so the actual crowds will be down as their cash is gone.
Of course by July or August when we know how the presidential race will most likely flesh out (and the real realization that O IS going back in) you won't be able to buy a damn thing. Panic early.....get your stuff NOW....but only if you're one of those crazy gun guys - can't stand the things myself, scare the heck out of me.
Not in my case. This place is a news clearinghouse for me, and a place to hang out with my cyber-friends. Frankly, I never understood that "all ate-up" with doom carp. Learn as much as you can, prep as much as you're able, then go have a life. Cowering in a bunker (metaphorically-speaking) is no way to live.
Monty, every grocery store prices the same way. You always have to consider the cost of replacing your stock if you're going to stay in business. Percent over wholesale cost will put you out of business fast in an inflationary environment.
Same Story From Rob at AMMOMAN
[This is inventory, sales and pricing info pulled from AMMOMAN's latest e-mail.]
AMMOMAN UPDATES
NEW PRODUCT JUST ARRIVED.
We just received a very large load of WOLF ammo.
We have managed to keep the price down somewhat with a very large purchase, but prices are going up this year.
We also decided to start stocking the ammo in sealed sardine cans. Costs a bit more for packaging but great for long term storage.
<snip>
We are also buying all the Federal ammo we can get our hands on. Demand is WAY up. Our sales have doubled since December.
This has happened at the first of the year, starting with the year Obama was sworn in, in the same way - I know, because I partly fell for it the first time, and bought a small amount of ammo just in case.
Never did figure out the real reason for that first "shortage", or even the subsequent ones, as I still am free to own all my guns, all my ammo, have no numbered bullets, and now I even take my weapons legally with me as I hike in NPs (yeah, there is still the discharge issue, but that wasn't the bigger deal).
And here we are again at the first of the year, and yep, here we go again. But fool me once, shame on you - fool me twice, shame on me. I buy plenty of ammo, as dh and I shoot daily. But no way do I purchase it this time of year when I hear this same stuff again - I wait and end up with all the ammo I need, as I've not yet been unable to buy anything I need. But this is like hunting on opening day, and I don't do that either.
It must work to increase sales and profit, though, or it wouldn't happen every Jan/Feb like clockwork now.
I will skip the panic, and go with what little I have.
It worries me as to who is buying what, and what their intention is,....
as in whether America is coming together or splitting apart?
I must point out, we've known for 30 years that America has a hundred year gun supply. Likewise, it was also a known fact that we only had a 30 day ammo supply.
Knowing the political tension for the past 50 years in the country, and that riots have been known to break out now and again, and the first response was to ban ammo, it has only made sense for a long time now to keep a little extra ammo at home.
Nobody can fight a world war on their own, and in the end sometimes you've got to go with what you got. And that's my position at this time. If you can afford it, buy it, but keep an eye and an ear out for others that are buying. Are they in it for the new revolution or the old?
The left is threatening violence through the occupy movement and union bully tactics. Throw in some firearms and we could have a real dust up coming into the national elections. This probably is double or even triple win for the left. They'll start it, we'll respond, and the media will blame the right. They'll declare themselves heros, the media will verify it to the world, and Obama will immediately ban all guns A thru Z. Of course the penalties will be monetary, say $100,000 per illegal weapon you are found with, plus the 10 year prison sentence. Bonuses for stitches will be based on the amount and types of firearms found.
Oh joy. The times we have to look forward to in our not so distant future.
My problem is I don't know exactly what I have! I have boxes of ammo all over the house, garage and basement, of various calibers. So, I don't really know what I should be buying, priority wise. Thinking out loud, shotgun, rifle or pistol ammo? In a post SHTF scenario, defending the ole homestead, I suppose the rifle would be used more than the shotgun or pistol. Pick off the zombies before they get too close. So then it comes down to 7.62x39, .308 or .223. The first two have longer range and greater knockdown power, IMO, YMMV, but the .223 is light weight, has a nice holographic sight and I would be more apt to carry that around on a sling while outside. The .308 and SKSs Would more likely to be used when shooting from cover. The pistol would be for backup only, since I would probably not be leaving the property. Target practice might have to be left to the airsoft to save ammo and keep down the noise signature. Further working through the scenario in my mind, once in full-blown defense against the zombie hoards mode, we would probably be shooting more from cover than outside walking around as sniper targets. So, I guess to answer my own question, I should focus on the .308 ammo (the SKSs are iron sights), with the .223 as a second choice, so maybe a 60/40 or 70/30 .308/.223 ratio for new ammo acquisition. What do you think?
I know how it works, it was the "shovel me a load of crap" presentation that bothered me, to give our customers "the current lowest market price". They can price them any way they want, same as the oil companies do.
