Well in all honesty I've yet to see a made movie that followed any video game to the letter. And I can see why, what works for games that may take weeks to complete, really can't be translated to a movie or series that may only be a few hours long. I'm just happy that we are getting a movie of any kind related to Fallout.

As an avid fan of the Fallout series of games, I just hope they don't screw it up with woke crap. other than that, I'm looking forward to the show.
I wouldn’t hold my breath on that.

Every other survivor will be gay or trans, and strangely white people outside will not have survived.

They can’t help themselves.

If it gets popular enough to get them to release fallout 5 sooner I'm good
I'm afraid were still at least 5 or more years down the road for that to happen, Todd Howard won't commit to a release date and hints in 2028 or after. As long as FO76 is making money it's not going to be replaced.

The need to get Elder Scrolls 6 out first! Elders Scrolls Online would make for a good series. It takes over 5 years to play it now as it is if you want to complete everything. That's playing about 6 hours a day for everyday.

I have no expectations and can hit the skip or next buttons right now if the entertainment quotient falls off.
Bus, if I see anything here that decries the product as a waste of time I likely won't even give it an opportunity to disappoint.

I'm hopeful that Microsoft will light a fire under them. Microsoft won't want to wait for its next cash cow to start giving milk while Todd Howard minces and prances about.

Director of Amazon's Fallout Show Has No Goal to Please Fallout Fans

"It's kind of a fool's errand to try to figure out how to make people happy."

Theodore McKenzie Senior Editor
Published 18 March 2024

When it comes to translating well-established video game franchises into TV series, there are usually two audiences one has to keep in mind: newcomers and fans of the source material.

Back in 2023, when HBO shipped its adaptation of Naughty Dog's The Last of Us, one of the show's highly praised aspects was its faithful retelling of the game's story, which pleased the series' existing fans and allowed the uninitiated to fully understand what The Last of Us was about.

Sadly, it recently came to light that the creators of Amazon's upcoming Fallout TV show have seemingly opted for a different approach and didn't put appeasing the franchise's dedicated fanbase as one of their priorities.

As reported by T3, the director of the Fallout TV series, Jonathan Nolan, dismissed the notion of catering to fans as a "fool's errand", advocating instead for prioritizing personal happiness over attempting to understand and fulfill the desires of others. "It's kind of a fool's errand to try to figure out how to make [other] people happy. You've got to make yourself happy. And I've made myself very happy with the show," Nolan said during a press event.

In what seems to be an attempt to avoid potential criticism, Nolan further added that he is something of a Fallout fan himself, having spent nearly a year playing the "best" installment in the series: Fallout 3. "It started, for me, with Fallout 3, which devoured about a year of my life. I was an aspiring young writer at that point, and it almost derailed my entire career," the director pointed out.

"It's such a rare and unbelievable thing that I've gotten to do twice in my career, to take something that you love and get a chance to play in that universe, to create your own version," said Nolan. "The first go-round for me was Batman, and this time with Fallout – a series of games that I absolutely loved."

Following T3's report, the community's response was mixed, with some lambasting the director for seemingly disregarding Fallout's existing fanbase and others rushing to Nolan's defense, citing his experience with Fallout 3 as a shield against criticism.

Ultimately, it's still impossible as of right now to predict for certain whether the upcoming show will succeed or not. As a long-time series fan myself, all I can say is, hey, it's Fallout we're talking about. Even if the show disappoints, it wouldn't be the first time we've been let down by Fallout-related products.

Speaking of Fallout products, earlier, Bethesda officially unveiled its 1:1 replica of the upcoming show's version of Pip-Boy, created in collaboration with The Wand Company. Costing $200, the device can play 50 animations, show you the time, and act as an unusual alarm clock when placed on a display stand shipped alongside the gadget.

A lot of Fallout fans are already unhappy, especially about the Obsidian Fallout lore. Specifically, what happened to Shady Sands and New Vegas. Which is a crock, because New Vegas already survived multiple nukes. There is no way that Mister House and his Securitron army weren't ready for anything else.

Since the 1st episode was ok, I'll check out more.

Shady Sands was Fallout 1....I didn't get into Fallout until #3 since I wasn't a fan of 3rd person /top down games, so not really going to bother me....as for Mr House and Vegas I'll check it out, I believe in the game most of the nukes heading to vegas were stopped by MR House's defense, and while a few slipped through, none hit the strip.

My main concern with "isn't for the fans" was it was going to get the Rings of Power treatment. If they change some lore I don't think I'll mind, but I'm not going to watch episodes that are doing nothing but spreading "the message".

House was on top of things. He made a career out of it. The idea that someone could destroy the entire Strip with House and his Securitrons on watch is LUDICROUS.

Some believe this is Todd Howard's revenge for New Vegas being regarded as a better Fallout than anything he's done so far. And it is a better Fallout, really. The East Coast Fallout stuff has always been lower-quality than the West Coast.

Todd's issue is he started at Bethesda as a producer, he has no design or development investment in any of Bethesda's projects, his involvement and interest in the Fallout franchise is simply corporate.

Unlike Josh Sawyer who worked as a designer at Interplay/Black Isle on Project Van Buren alongside Chris Avalone before it was cancelled and Black Isle shuttered. Sawyer has been a designer his entire career, evenrually taking on the roles of project director and lead designer simultaneously for Fallout New Vegas.

Sawyer still releases mods for New Vegas.

It also helps that Chris Avalone worked with Josh Sawyer on New Vegas.

I remain hopeful that Microsoft can see the potential in having two different sets of Fallout developers. And maybe even Elder Scrolls developers too. Especially after the hash that Starfield became.

Never played Fallout as I'm a military and strategy player. Just know the subject of the game and not the related narrative of the game.

Seen all the episodes and thoroughly enjoyed them, and will be watching them again. This easily made up for the disappointing Hulu Shogun series.

Looking forward to Fallout season 2.

I have the hope, Todd isn't bad, his focus is just not centered on storyline development or design.

I've not been disappointed with storyline or canon of the any of games, just the rushed development in the more recent releases; FO4 was a bit buggy, but that's just a Bethesda trait. FO76 however was often unplayed in the early months, now that the kinks are ironed out it's very played, just kind of repetitive.

Rushed? Even when they take their time it doesn't matter. Starfield was in development something like eight years. What did THAT need eight years to make?

I just don't think I can take another doomsday movie. I have committed to turning all the end of the world porn off for awhile. Reality is mind-bending enough right now. I'm keeping it real, thinking positive and working hard ...just in case.

I play FO76 just about every day, and with the release of the series there has been an influx of new players coming to the game. I've invested about 2600 hours in the game on PC so far, and maybe half that much with my old Xbox and I'm really surprised I'm still not bored with it. I'll have to admit Bethesda has hit this one out of the park as far as a money maker goes. I was never an online kind of player, but this game is enjoyable with live players and has changed my mind about online play.
