You've got it exactly backwards; This thread was started friday eve at 6pm, and yours was almost a day later, around noon saturday.
Unfortunately it's not unusual in the least for breaking initial casualty numbers to rise as the hours and days pass; the posts here reflect that normal transition.
Hopefully they're not going to see any more dramatic jumps in casualty numbers; fortunately the aftershocks are decreasing in magnitude, so there is that sliver of good news.
Or even the east coast of the US, there's that huge fault line that goes from upstate NY down into Alabama, and there's also that huge fault line under NYC. There's a whole lot of old buildings that's gonna crumble when the big one hits.
The New Madrid fault contains an area with several large cities and countless buildings which were not built to be earthquake resistant. That will be a horrendous mess if/when it occurs.
