Prepper Anxiety Poll #28

It's time to once again gauge the anxiety members are feeling regarding the current world situation and how they view the relative near-term future.

With a nod to JC Refuge, who developed and created this identical poll the first seventeen times, and to CfI for invaluable assistance, here we go again. The poll will remain up for three days. If we make it past the end of October without a market collapse I think we should all have a TB2K Snoopy dance come November.

I voted bit concerned but I'd really put myself between that one and watchful. The markets will do what they want them to do, used this past long weekend to add some more food preps along with a big pick up truck load of unsplit firewood.

I'll glance at the Asian markets tonight and watch US market tomorrow but the collapse won't be tomorrow....I think we have a bit more downward sliding to do before the drop.

I know people keep calling for "blood bath" but sorry imho a 2% drop is not a blood bath...a day or two of halted trading because circuit breakers are kicking

I am a bit concerned but am choosing to hope for an 11th hour miracle. We have been weirded out before and the worst did not happen. I am hopeful this will be the case here.

Markets crashing! Limit down! We're doomed... but wait! Up in the air? What's that? It's, it's Ben Bernanke with a fleet of cargo helicopters! They're emptying bags of hundred dollar bills over Wall street! Ben is yelling, "Spend, everyone, spend!" Bankers are dancing in the street! Stock brokers are shouting and tossing piles of bills at each other! We're saved! Ben Bernanke has saved us once again!

Until tomorrow.

How should I put this? ... I believe we are on the verge of a series of major global events that are going to cause dominoes to fall in most any direction we look. This month ... next month ... certainly by the end of the year. I can't say that I've ever quite felt this way before about the seriousness of what is imminent.

I voted "Glued to the screen" but am actually a bit beyond that, looking down into my bunker, ready to jump.

I'm still at watchful but more concerned. I've done all I can. Now I set and watch knowing really bad things are on the horizon and could erupt any minute.

+1 Right now I'm still at watchful, but I figure "bunker time" will occur before the end of the year too. I figure I won't be "glued to the screen" until the 11th on.

Spending our weekend canning and checking TB 2000 to see if we are still here. Anxiety level is very high for wife and I right now. Is it knowing what we know or is it an earthqauake? Time will tell.

There have been so many THIS IS IT moments during our prepping years that we no longer react to single events, possible events, or a series of events, because this global house of cards defies both logic and prediction. We make a genuine effort to remain ready both physically and spiritually, and to really live life in the meantime.

It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine.
Seriously, I feel completely at peace. It may be that it's too late to get the stuff I wanted to get, but God gave us plenty of warning to get what we can, and if He thinks that's enough, then it will be. So I'm no longer worried about the stuff I had been wanting.
Therefore I have no worries. If I had needed those little luxuries I wanted, He'd have sent me the means to get them.

I see light at the end of the tunnel, in my little world anyway. At least ONE cause for rejoicing. One of my best friends told me last week that her TOTALLY DGI son has suddenly and inexplicably become a SERIOUS prepper. She was a little weirded out by it, that a healthy, strong young man filled with hope and promise for the future would suddenly become abit of a "survivalist nut" in her words. I just smiled to myself and quietly said, "Well it IS wise in a tornado zone such as we've had the past few weeks, and in a major blizzard zone like ours, to have a can or two of beans set aside..." She gave me a funny look and then said he's going to start storing alot of his prepper stuff in her basement...I was quietly giving God thanks :)

I think that's his way of giving her a major nudge.

I'm a bit concerned; that's why I this week is 'water' week; filling up all my containers. And, someone said between 9/11 and 1/11 we could see an EMP attack. There was a news release out of Iran a month or so ago that the U.S. was going to suffer big time in the near future (EMP Attack) because of the killing of their nuclear scientists.

One more piece of 'doom' to add to all the other possibilities... but, if nothing happens that's okay too.

usually voted watching, but now "glued to the screen" although, of course, i'm actually down in the garden, or building one last homestead outbuilding. but i also am making sure i keep the batteries topped off, and am making plans for an extra large greenhouse as part of the last-ditch survival effort. i think the radiation from fukushima will turn out to be a lot more significant than most of us are thinking...

I don't know what the hell I'm doing! I put a herd of beavers to shame with all the firewood I'm stacking up.

One of my ears has a full time job listening to the news and one eye is on the job of just watching the news.

Heading to one of those epic visits to Sam's Thursday. Glad I got a pickup.

On the outside, I don't look any different (well I am aging) nerve wise but I'm like the bottom string on a guitar inside.

Other than that, it's a good day.

Great responses and I can relate to everyone of you.

I've been canning a bountiful garden and made some awesome spaghetti sauce. About 12 meals so far for all of us with that and canning lots of beans tomorrow since I prepped them all today. I'm talking a few buckets full. :)

I'm glad water was mentioned again. I need to refill too this week one more time and I should be ok. I should also get some more wood and fill the leanto right up. Thanks for the reminders!

Basically I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop and I don't think it will be long either. About ready to hunker down, just waiting for the sign to do so.

:)

I voted totally freaked and in my bunker - though I am neither but I am at condition red because of the wildfires here in Texas....and the threat that that magnitude of fire could break out anywhere anytime.

I have set up an evac transport aid standby for our major foster home with 13 dogs on premises ready to come to help evac those BIG dogs. In case of lack of time - fire breaks out without the necessary 2 to 3 hour lead time, have made sure that they are set up with a plan. Non-optimum but most likely doable with triage which dogs go in first trip, which in second trip and which in third trip if that many returns are allowed, knowing that the later trips the dogs are on the most likely thay may be left to die if the place is over burned. (Thanks to Dennis for joining this transport standby - if anyone else is able to help and lives anywhere near Brenham PM me.)

All the while sitting ready to evac the ranch and animals IF we are caught in the line of a fire.

So not freaked but actively waiting to jump where the help is needed and several stacks of stuff for the various possibilities.

However, I am just enough freaked that my mind is in the phog -- I gave my dog MY a.m. meds and hers - I pulled all of them at once, trying to save time (slow is fast during an emergency situation) and instead of pulling her pill from the handful of meds, I put all of them down her throat. I was able to literally stick my hand down her throat and sweep 4 of them out and gave her peroxide to make her vomit - but after half an hour with no results had to take her to the vet for the 'puke' shot. We think we got all the pills out and none of them were contraindicated for dogs, just an overdose of mobic. So she is doing fine, happy errrrrr stoned on the apomorphine shot, taking pepcid and eating yoghurt for the next couple of days and I sprained my injured neck again from lifting her into the truck while OD'd on adrenaline. So am taking care of myself, too.

This is why when setting up your emergency plans - WRITE THEM DOWN and have checklists to follow - even if you are experienced handling emergencies, when it is you and yours - there IS brain Phog.

This brings me back to the subject of water. :shk:
"food, shelter, clothing" ....useless without life sustaining water.

We had a little hurricane pass thru here last week. We filled the bathtubs, all the pots, pans, containers with water. then we filled the outside buckets with flushing water too.
The swimming pool collapsed after an unforseen monster leak last month...would have been a nice supply of bathing and washing and flushing water....oh well.

We lost electric. :sht:

We went thru most of the pure clean water in 4 days.
By day#2 the bathtub water had little 'floating things' in it. Yeah only good for flushing or boiling.

We have a hand dug well....the water has been tested as not safe to drink....so it needs boiled. The deep well is just fine but needs electric to run the water....we had no electric.

Just another day in the life :spns:

Only a few of the bottled water were used before the electric came back on but that would have only been a week supply.

So , you see....I am not as prepped as I thought I was.

Must have water!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I do. Soon as in this month and/or next month perhaps? At least, that's how soon it feels to me. There are simply too many things coming together at the same time right now. The perfect 'perfect storm' scenario, imho.

OK wish I could revote - maybe - the possible evac has gotten a stand down - the threatening fires have been contained but somehow with it as dry and low humidity (11%0 and gusty wind, I still don't feel 'safe' and that is only the fire threats -

Don't get me started about food suplies for the next however long and not much hope for a fall garden or a spring garden because the drought is projected to continue through next year.

Alert level has moved back to a dark orange.

It's not just us who are more on edge. A friend of mine asked me last week about doing some "classes" on preparedness because she has just started over the past couple of months and it's been baby steps. Today she called and reiterated that request and let me know that she has several other people who want to come and that one of the ladies was "freaking out" because she is just getting started and is overwhelmed.

My poll, my rules. I'll be happy to tally the final results (tomorrow around 11 MST) with your vote changed due to an "emotionally charged" response. Just let me know what you voted and what your more considered vote should be.

I'm planning a 4 day road trip to western Colorado next week with a group. Checking out Mesa Verde. Next month, I'll be taking a road trip with dog from Denver to Dallas and Austin, via western Kansas. Possibly back via NM.

PM me if you'd like a visit! Carpe Diem!

I second what DustMusher said. Something unthinkable happened to my daughter. Got the call while out in the garden picking lettuce. Because I had a bag partially packed & had thought things through earlier, I was able to be on the road to her within literally 5 minutes. But I was screaming the whole time & found it hard to breath & also to act rationally; I was literally babbling. The mere actions of having a bag ready to grab and a little cash on hand helped immensely. In retrospect, a full gas tank would have been the only thing that could have helped speed things up.

The final result for the 29th Prepper Anxiety Poll is 2.15.

This is a significant increase over recent polls, and is the second highest poll total ever (2.48 recorded from Poll #23, 2/16/09). Sign of the times, folks. Plan accordingly.

Beginning with the 27th poll and all following, the polls have only been run for three days, instead of the five days of the previous 26. There were only two votes in the last 48 hours of the 26th poll (and most previous polls), so there's no sense taking up valuable front page space with a poll that has run its course.

As always, thanks to those who voted and commented.
