The annual MLK observance at the state house in Columbia SC had an interesting twist this year. The event is held on the north side steps of the statehouse. Prominent at that location is a large bronze statue of George Washington. This year, the NAACP constructed a "box" to conceal the Father of His Country from view so that participants would not be offended by his presence.

Being stolen, you're sooo wrong.

It was hidden because it represents honesty and integrity, not entitlement.

There are some online who are suggesting that the "box" was photoshopped.

Here is a link of a speaker standing in front of the "George In A Box" box

Here is a link with little George in the box in the bottom center

Ironically, many of the attendees were upset about the SC flag which they call a Confederate flag. However, none are upset that another piece of history, good ol George, has been relegated to a box.

I would have thought by now that the NAACP - National Association for the Advancement of Colored People - would have become politically correct and started calling itself NAAB or NAAAA and dropped the "colored people" in favor of "blacks" or "African Americans".....tsk, tsk

Maybe they don't know what the initials stand for???;)

Surprised they did not take it and sell it for scrap.

I wondered if they conspired with Obama's cronies and Black Panther friends to create black bike week and rase havoc in-order to shut down bike week in South Carolina.

Elimination of cultural memory is one of the goals of our Cultural Left. We can no longer draw inspiration from their valorous deeds because they were a 'bunch of dead white men that owned slaves'.

Right.

Measuring yesterday's actions against today's standards will make our ancestors into a group of poltroons every time.

Indeed, they used to feed Christians to lions. There used to be human sacrifices, there used to be many human atrocities however the NAACP and many others act as if they have some moral high ground. As if race today would never be an issue if not for the white man. As if they never consider race. We only need look to current day Africa and current day inner city USA and current day NAACP, Jesse Jackson, Black Panthers, Black Liberation Theolgy, Eric Holder and a list mile long. We only need look at a boxed in George Washington.

If these people don't like Washington or the founding fathers maybe they should all go back to Africa and start their own country. They do not deserve to live here.

img that sounds about right.

We gave them their own country. It's called Liberia. Fine job they did with it

Naacp is a word! I heard it pronounced the other day.

Naw-sip.

It means the drugs are in the drink but don't chug-a-lug it.

Sip it.

Afroed-americans would never use 'colored people' describing themselves.

They hate the other 'colored people', the illegal Mexicans.

So, do I get to be offended? Can I yell 'hate crime', sue somebody, get some reparations?

Oh ya, I'm white. Bamma want's me in the back of the bus.

You have it all wrong -- See George would be an overshadowing figure above the speaker at the podium and confuse the issues discusses that day, being George owned slaves or whatever the confusing history books allude to.

Is the NAACP admitting it is not an American institution? Can't see how the father of the country could be offensive to those who are true Americans.

I've looked, but darned if I can find it -- where exactly in the Constitution is the right to "not be offended" codified?

And who is the arbiter of offense when two opposing parties offenses need to be prioritized?
