BRKG Breaking-100s of IDF armored vehicles on the move to Israel's northern border

Thought this may deserve its own thread. Multiple Israeli media outlets are reporting an unscheduled "exercise" which is basically shutting down traffic in Northern Israel. Reportedly "hundreds" of IDF armored vechiles are involved. Given the tensions from last weeks border skirmish, subsequent IDF navy firing on Lebanese fishing boat and last weeks kaytusha rocket firing on Eliat, I'd say this should be monitored just in case this is cover for the real deal . . .

IDF exercise involves hundreds of armored vehicles in North

A major IDF war exercise in the north Monday was set to simulate the transfer of hundreds of armored vehicles to the norther border, as would be undertaken during wartime.

The IDF will examine different scenarios, including how to deal with traffic jams at major intersections, which could lead to difficulties during a war.

Traffic was expected on roads leading north.

It does say simulate moving vehicles. I've been involved in war time simulations. It doesn't mean they are actually moving the armor. Could be getting close to actually doing it though. Watching.

Big Israeli military drill as Nasrallah charges plot against Lebanese leaders
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report August 9, 2010, 11:41 PM (GMT+02:00)
http://www.debka.com/article/8959/

Hizballah leader Hassan Nasrallah accused Israel of plotting to murder all of Lebanon's political and military leaders in a speech he delivered Monday night, Aug. 9, thus going one better than his anticipated bid to pin the 2005 Hariri murder on the Jewish state. Although he produced no evidence, his Iranian backers were at his side. And so enough fuel was poured on the already incendiary Israel-Lebanese, Israel-Syrian borders to prompt a large-scale Israeli military exercise to start the following morning, Tuesday, Aug. 10.
Iranian foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki is meanwhile on his way to Damascus to hold Bashar Assad back from his promise to Saudi King Abdullah to break away from Hizballah. The Iranian ambassador called on the Lebanese chief of staff Gen. Jean Qahwaji Monday and advised him to invoke the new Iranian-Lebanese military accord for replacing the US with Iran as the Lebanese army's main arms supplier.
In an attempt to hold the line in Beirut, Washington sent its top Syrian-Lebanese expert Fredric Hof to Beirut to warn Gen. Qahwaji against falling for the Iranian line or again embarking on cross-border aggression against Israel.
In an earlier item on Aug. 9, debkafile's sources outlined the pressures on Iranian-Syrian relations and the strains which have prompted all these comings and goings, placed four armies on a high alert and made the Hizballah leader desperate enough to threaten his country with civil war and provoke a showdown with Israel.

Israel is to move large tank, armored infantry and artillery up north as an extra warning to Tehran, Damascus and Beirut not to let their crises spill over to Israel's borders or generate a repeat of the Aug. 3 military clash in which Lt. Col. Dov Harari was killed by a Lebanese sniper.
Monday night, the Israeli military unusually warned citizens and motorists they would have to put up with heavy military traffic on the northern highways leading from the center of the country to the shores of the Sea of Galilee, Upper Galilee and the Golan - in particular Route 71 linking Afulah and Bet Shean, and Routes 90 and 92 which circle the lake and reach the Galilee Panhandle. They were advised to avoid the roads leading up to the Israeli-Syrian and Israeli-Lebanese borders.

Nasrallah started out with an account of schemes he claimed Israeli agents had hatched against Lebanon in the 1990s and moved on to accusing Israel of plotting to murder Lebanese president Michel Suleiman, Chief of staff Gen. Jen Qahwaji, leader of the Shite Amal movement Nabih Berri, who is Speaker of Parliament, Prime Minister Saad Hariri, and leader of the Christian Phalange movement, Samir Geagea.
And what motivates Israel to make a clean sweep of all Lebanon's pro-Western as well as pro-Iranian leaders? Nasrallah asked rhetorically and answered: "To implicate Syria and Hizballah in the crimes, exactly as in the case of the Hariri murder" - which he claimed was committed by Israeli intelligence.
Nasrallah's effort to drum up a case for a common Syrian-Lebanese war against Israel was entirely transparent and predicted. All the same, it added a new level to the current military strains.

I added the word "Israel's" to your title, because when I first saw the title I thought we were invading Canada or something, lol.

Thanks for the heads up though! I pray that things don't escalate in the way they seem headed.

ETA: Now that I see the title again, it says IDF. I must have missed that part. ;)

The jpost article says "simulate", but the haaretz article actually says the armor is heading to the border and also reports that there will be resulting traffic problems in that area

Interesting quote from Israel's deputy defense minister in light of today's developments:

The vision sounds like what happened during the Gulf War. Saddam, Scuds, Brokaw. What makes you believe it was for the current situation? I do believe all hell is going to break out soon but this vision sounds like something that has already happened.

It was during the Gulf War and in that context. However, the special report did not exist at that time AND it was followed by hearing the air-raid siren and nuclear explosion upon reading the 8th chapter from Revelation. It was this experience that led me to uncover Russia's strategic deception of the West and the inevitable nuclear war that will stem from Russia's diabolical pursuit. We're obviously nearing end-game:

This is a very weird story since the exercise is supposed to "simulate" yet apparently real equipment is on the move. Just the fact that they are trying to sell the unscheduled troop movement as something other than it is is potentially significant. Let's hope and pray this does not mean what we suspect, i.e., an Israeli strike on Iran's nuke sites, but if this truly is the case, it is now 11pm and dark from Israel to Iran. I think the odds are quite low Israel would hit Iran with the new moon at the start of Ramadan since this would be so incredibly provocative by the Jewish State toward all Muslim nations.

Jay, If there is anything more to these "exercises", I think it will be directed at Lebanon, Syria and Hezbollah this go around IMO. I think the IDF takes care of business in the Levant first and then goes after Iran down the road, if at all.

Probably so, but if Israel were planning to strike Iran's nuke sites, they'd want to buffer their forces in the north for anticipated retaliation.

Very true. Israel would have to expect retaliation on that front if they went after Iran and would be wise to pre-position forces accordingly.

During Gulf War I, I still have about 30 minutes of VHS tape recorded live off of the TV of the CNN office in Jerusalem saying that they had received reports of a chemical weapons attack in the city. This was the night the first of Saddams SCUDS were launched against Israel.

Live on the air, the staff dons gas masks and break out their nerve gas antidote injectors. Nervous anchors at the CNN main desk are visibly tense as they try to reassure their associates to be calm but be ready to go to deep cover.

It is one of the most riveting pieces of TV I have ever seen live. Watching people getting ready to confront a chemical rocket attack and all of the ramifications that comes with such an assault on Israel.

Thank goodness it was a false alarm but it was a hair raising 30 minutes, even back here in the States.

Hmmmm somethings not right here...

Why all of a sudden is the Saudi King anti hezzy?

Does the Saudi King know what is about to go down?

Did the Saudi King Abdullah tell Syrian President Bashar Assad to back off on Israel and to get as far away from Hizballah as he possibly if he wants to keep his country from being destroyed.

Why are the Iranians all bent out of shape with Assad?

I thought thet had a mutual defence agreement?

Did Syria recently tell Iran thanks but no thanks?

Thanks SIRR1

Red Baron I saw that live and thought it was phony and just to con the U.S. public into following the justification planning for the war, Turns out my instincts in that regard were right.

Tension mounted Monday in southern Lebanon after Israeli forces reportedly advanced to the area of the Shaba farms, forcing the Lebanese army on alert, a Lebanese army source said.

The source said three armored Israeli vehicles, accompanied by a civilian car, advanced towards Shaba Farms, located at the junction of south-east Lebanon, south-west Syria and northern Israel.
