Oil spill: Is Gulf safe for swimming?, Pensacola News Journal, June 26, 2010:

The Escambia County Health Department lifted a health advisory on Pensacola Beach on Friday on the advice of a beach official and against the advice of a federal environmental official. …

Meanwhile, the Environmental Protection Agency plans to put decontamination stations along the beach, possibly as early as this weekend. …

Dr. John Lanza, director of Escambia County Health Department, said the reason for leaving the decision up to beachgoers on whether to swim is because the oil situation on the beach is “very dynamic.”

“We have a situation that changes from one hour to the next, from one tide to the next, from wave to wave, from one wind direction to another,” he said. …

[T]he impact advisory would warn beachgoers to avoid touching oily product on the beach and in the water, and it would advise them leaving the beach and seeking medical help if they experience respiratory problems.

So far, 400 people have sought medical care for upper or lower respiratory problems, headaches, nausea, and eye irritation after trips to Escambia County beaches, Lanza said. …

[O]il chips, tar balls and submerged oil slicks and the odor of petroleum still were present.

And people complained about getting a petroleum jelly-like substance on them from sand that was tainted brown.

Swimmers who did venture into the water questioned whether it was really safe to wade, swim and play in the Gulf, especially when they had to walk through a line of tar balls and stay clear of skimmers scooping up oil just 25 and 50 feet from the shore.

“I only went into the water up to my ankles. That’s as far as I wanted to go,” said Joe Chambers, 28, of West Pensacola as he scrubbed off oily residue from himself and his son, Ethan, 4, in the public showers at Casino Beach. “It doesn’t smell like the beach. It smells like a gas station. There are no fish in the water. There’s nothing alive in the water. I don’t know how public officials can just look at the water and make a call to reopen it for swimming.”

Carol Doster of Grand Isle, Miss., said her son Dallas, 12, was frightened by the oil that streaked his legs and arms after a five-minute swim in the Gulf on Friday. “It won’t rub off,” Doster said. …

Lanza said the health department did not test the water or sand samples before lifting the health advisory. He did send out health department employees to look at the water before they covered up the health advisory signs.

Marine Toxicologists being intervewed who worked on ExXon Valdez cleanup says many workers & seals, whales up there died of toxins from the oil which "Fried Brains"....She described brain lesions from oil fumes..Said most Exxon Valdez workers suffered disabilities & early death....She's now working along the gulf and is noticing same symptoms among fishermen, cleanup workers, tourists & local residents...BP not allowing workers to use respirators......She states that Pres Obama needs to DEMAND respirators for workers & locals...BP using metal detectors to locate hidden cameras & cell phones on folks to prevent pictures getting out..BP sending crews out to destroy evidence ie: dead turtles, dolphins, birds before they can be collected for autopsy.....

Much has been made here about Survivalist George Ure's sudden selling of his East Texas survival retreat & his relocation to the PacNW....According to a poster on another site who claims to have Ure's recent newsletter, ( 35pages, 10 bucks), Ure feel that storms will bring the toxic gasses inland where they will cause, "Massive death, cancers & birth defects for generations"......Kids & pregnant women are especially sensitive to the effects of these fumes....
According to Alexander Higgins blog: they are now finding that corexit is eating thru BOAT HULLS & destroys Kidneys......Also there is a big fish kill off JACKSONVILLE and oil has been confirmed there by a Univ of South Florida scientist...Jacksonville is on the EAST or Atlantic side of Florida....http://jacksonville.com/sports/outdoors/2010-06-26/story/theres-no-easy-solution-puzzling-fish-kill-st-johns

I wonder if this issue has started to bother people in the Orlando area? If not, when? The secondary issue is this situation over a period of time could start to bother people up state, Missisippi, Arkansas, Georgia, Tennessee, probable the entire eastern half of the United States.
Originally my family was going to take a vacation to Orlando but now I don't think that is going to happen because of this mess. As a matter of fact I don't know if we will go anywhere.

They are lying and allowing those workers to get sick and possibly die, and the people who swore an oath to protect American lives are doing nothing but aiding the criminals that cause this mess, and plan to use this disaster to make the carbon tax law. "we the people" deserve every thing we get because "we the people" were far too busy playing with our Ipods, while watching american idol, wondering what tiger woods was hiding ... time to pay the price for not paying attention.

Look at what happened at Ground Zero in NYC- they didn't have the rescue workers wear respirators and now there is a massive health crisis because of it. BP is interested in NOTHING except money and saving itself. They don't care about Louisiana or the Gulf or any of the people cleaning up THEIR mess. This will spin out of control and become the worst disaster of all time and last for a VERY LONG TIME. The oil and dispersants being used are both bad news.

It's time to march on Washington and Wall Street, and when I say march I mean round them up and hang em high. Every corporate scumbag. Every politician. Every lobbyist, and every attorney. They all must go and the middle educated class needs to step up and get seriously violent with these evil people. Revolution is the only answer.

Compare the size of the spill with any city or state.....

This really brings home the immense size of the oil slick.....http://blog.alexanderhiggins.com/2010/05/08/compare-size-gulf-oil-spill-city/..........This was done in early May...We now have confirmed reports of oil in the Florida Keys & as far north as Jacksonville...We have unconfirmed reports of oil off the Carolinas & Maryland..........Eventually, it may cross the Atlantic to the English Channel and Tony Heyward's yacht .....With any luck the Corexit will eat away his yacht hull....

It is amazing how many folks think that that crap is just fine. It takes a real retard to walk around on a beach and swim in the water anywhere close to that crap. It is amazing people just pay it no mind and carry on.

I never was a beach going person anyways. We are 35 miles inland and it makes me wonder here. But they keep telling folks the beach's are fine in Fl. It is retarded if you walk on the beach and get tar an your feet who is stupid enough to get in the water. it may be fine but I will follow my own internal warnings lol.

It is the money they want folks on the beaches spending the greenbacks.

And the people are retarded brokenwings thats the trouble. They believe everything .gov and the MSM tell em. Just like sheep they will follow em right over the freaking cliff.

Did Exxon make THEM go to ONLY it's OWN, approved "doctors" and "medical centers' THEN, as they are NOW?

If so, you can bet your booty the oil-company-paid "doctors" wrote up the symptoms as "cold", "flu", "upper respiratory infection"---
ANYTHING OTHER THAN A CHEMICALLY-INDUCED CONDITION.

BP, right now, is doing the SAME.

The clean-up people aren't ALLOWED to go to a "regular" doctor--only to BP-approved ones. You think, for one minute, those doctors aren't CLEAR as crystal as to WHAT they're supposed to write on those medical records?

Sure as H***, it WON'T be the TRUTH, and it won't be ANYTHING that could EVER be used in a lawsuit against BP.

Why do you think BP isn't allowing its workers to wear respirator masks?

Because that would be an ADMISSION the air is dangerous, and would open them up to liability claims.

You also can't fix desperate...One cleanup worker interviewed said that despite getting sick he had to work as he's got bills, kids and a pregnant wife.....Sort of like coal miners who go down in the mines day after day knowing they will probably get Black Lung & die young....

In litigation, a plaintiff (bankrolled by his lawyer or insurance) always uses his own doctors to examine him and then testify before the judge or jury on his behalf. (I was a litigator for 11 years.)

American Academy of Pediatrics: Children Should Stay Away from Oil

Given that parents are letting their kids play in the oil, please note that the American Academy of Pediatrics has released the following statement on the Gulf oil spill:

•Children should be directly supervised and should not be allowed to play in or around areas where the water or beach contains oil or sludge.

•Children, and whenever possible teens, should not be involved in clean-up efforts but should only return after the area is cleaned up. Children should be the last group to return to areas impacted by oil or other toxic substances.

•Children should not be involved in swimming, boating, or clean-up activities in areas impacted by the oil spill.

Florida Gov. Urges Vacationers to Swim in Toxic Sludge
Kurt Nimmo
June 28, 2010

Florida Governor Charlie Crist is apparently more worried about the state’s economy than the health of vacationers and residents. Crist told CBS on Saturday the water is safe and people shouldn’t worry. “It is safe,” Crist declared, “there isn’t a toxic nature to it that is detrimental to anybody. It is much more of a nuisance than anything else at this point.”

Crist is asking ill-informed beachgoers to endanger their health so the state’s tourism industry can be saved. “The Escambia County Health Department lifted a health advisory on Pensacola Beach on Friday on the advice of a beach official and against the advice of a federal environmental official,” reports PNJ.com. Officials want to leave the decision to swim in the Gulf of Mexico up to the discretion of individual beachgoers.
http://www.pnj.com/article/20100626/NEWS01/6260322/Oil-spill-Is-Gulf-safe-for-swimming-

Signs would be posted from the Florida-Alabama line to just west of Portofino Beach warning people about the toxic danger. The Environmental Protection Agency plans to put decontamination stations along the beach.

These moves send conflicting signals about how safe it is to swim in the Gulf of Mexico as the impacts of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill broadens,” PNJ.com continues.

400 people have sought medical care for upper or lower respiratory problems, headaches, nausea, and eye irritation after trips to Escambia County beaches.

BP and the corporate media have colluded together to hide the full extent of the oil gusher and its health dangers. CNN concentrates on the impact on marine wildlife at the expense of the health problems arising.

Florida and its governor should not prevent people from swimming in the Gulf — that should be an individual decision — but it is seriously irresponsible for the state to encourage people and tell them there is nothing wrong.

Crist managed to raise around $25 million to put out propaganda touting Florida’s unstained beaches and encouraging folks to come on down. In response, Republican state senator Don Gaetz said, “It’s in days like this that I miss Jeb Bush.”

Charlie Crist wants vacationers to risk their health to save the economic health of his state. He is apparently unconcerned about the increasing number of people who are sickened by the toxic sludge washing up on the state’s beaches.

point of clarification... the Web Bot's report you describe is produced by Clif High. George Ure is a friend and associate of Clif, but the report is Clif's.

In general children are disproportionally affected by toxins. They are harmed by toxins that have minimal effect on adults. Body weight is not the issue here, it is an issue of maturity of the physical body, a 180lb teen boy is affected more by toxins (poisons) than a 180lb adult man.

In litigation, a plaintiff (bankrolled by his lawyer or insurance) always uses his own doctors to examine him and then testify before the judge or jury on his behalf. (I was a litigator for 11 years.)

Obviously, I was talking about medical records FROM THE TIME of the incident.

Naturally, lawyers are going to turn around medical reports, from ANY doctor, done YEARS later, and say, (imagine high-pitched nasal voice here) "But any number of things could have caused that condition in the intervening years! Do you have CONCLUSIVE PROOF that this illness was caused by what happened DURING THE TIME OF THE EXXON VALDEZ DISASTER???"

And of course they don't, because at that time, they 1) TRUSTED that the doctors paid by Exxon were on the up-and-up; 2) probably didn't have the MONEY to go to non-Exxon doctors; and 3) DID NOT REALISE the severity of the chemicals they were being exposed to--------

SO THEY DID NOT GATHER, AT THAT CRITICAL TIME, the EVIDENCE they needed, later on, to prove their case.

I suggest, if you want to be a defense lawyer here, you'd better pick victims of BP to defend, instead of playing Devil's advocate for the oil company.

Because, right now, public feeling is identifying BP, and their cronies, VERY MUCH with the Devil.

WE ARE SCREAMING!!!! Its just that YOU aren't being allowed to HEAR us!

And it doesn't just end with the governor of Florida either.

I'll tell you NOW that the upper escalon of the BUSINESS OWNERS are ALSO right up there beside the governor telling the TOURISTS that all is ok, GO SWIM IN OUR WATERS, everything's FINE.....
BUSINESS owners need to stop telling BS to the visitors down here too!!!
TELL the tourists that the LOCALS won't get in the water.
TELL the tourists how the LOCALS won't eat the seafood.
TELL the tourists that even if you don't see the oil it don't mean it ain't there for the love of little babies!!!!!
