WEATHER Ya'll ready for the next NE snowstorm?

Boy, this sucks. I took a "vacation day" today, to clean-up, and recover, from my Superbowl party. Good game BTW, even being a Jets fan, I was happy to see "Who Dat" kick some butt...

But now it looks like I'm going to have to take another "vacation / sick day" on Wednesday. There is some hope, in the past the boss has given us a "free day" for a snowstorm once in a while, but it's gotta be a "serious" storm. If he doesn't give us the day, I'm still not going to work. I really hate using "days" during the winter, I'ld much rather take a Friday off, and enjoy a nice, long, lazy, summer weekend at the farm...

Calling for up to 18" of new snow here, starting Tuesday night, and all day Wednesday. It would be no fun driving home from the Trenton train station Wednesday night, so I ain't gonna do it!

Summerthyme (the last storm missed us completely by about 20 miles... this one probably won't. No biggie.. our "commute" is 150 feet...)

I don't know about everybody else, ST, I just know what I'm about. My guess is that others see what I do as well.

Given the market breakdown through the trendline and it just being 2 days away, I don't see any reason to trade ahead of it.

OK Ab, I'll take you up on that. Do you want to volunteer to come and get me from point A to point B on Wednesday night? Heck, I'll even pay you!

You just don't understand the road system here in NJ. The interstates, even the state roads will most likely be just fine. But when you get to the local and county roads, that's an entirely different story. More that once, my car has been a plow on the "main road" leading to the farm. And a 2000 Dodge Intrepid R/T doesn't exactly make a great plow...

We've been kicking around moving further south before we get too old and decrepid, but since we have very little snow on the ground and further south is getting hammered this year, maybe we'll just stay put.

It's going to be quite a storm! Accuweather is hyping this as the I95 blizzard.
Just got back from the store. Lucky you if you can avoid going in to work. I thought I would be in the clear but it is supposed to snow all day Wednesday and I work Wed night. I am seriously thinking about just having my mail forwarded to the hospital.
Weather.gov has us at 10-20 inches and Fox news at 18-24 inches. So who knows?

Bring it on! Good for the water tables. Will give us a jump on that global warming trend they keep saying is coming...

NOAA has my area at 6" to 12" possible, but quickly points out that the higher amounts will be south of here...Long Island, NYC Metro, etc.

Evening Update on the Storm....WOW...

THIS WILL BE A NASTY BIG DADDY FOR MANY...


The storm is taking shape across the eastern Texas at this hour. What I hope people understand is just how bad this storm may become, especially across the Mid-Atlantic and New England. The combination of wind, snow and falling temps will create the kind of blizzard conditions one sees out the High Plains. If you get stuck in the heart of the storm and you are not prepared, you can suffer some bad consequences. I am not trying to hype the storm, but to make sure that people across eastern PA, MD, northern VA, NJ, southeast NY, southern New England and even back into central PA, Ohio, Indiana, southern Michigan and northern Illinois that weather will be at it's most extreme.

As for snow amounts, I like my map that I issued today. Many places will get 6-12 inches of snow from the Midwest to the Mid-Atlantic, and the I-95 corridor from DC to Boston is where the big snows of over 12 inches will occur. Philly and NYC will get close to 20 inches of wind blown snow that will shut the cities down late Wed. I would suggest staying home Wed because commute home is going to be very bad. Even southern New England will get into the blizzard.

If you compare this to the last storm, I would say that potential, the storm coming can be much worse and would really be what I call a true blizzard.....

They are calling for 12 inches in my neck of the woods. 12 inches might collapse my hen house, and it might cause others to lose parts of thier homes/carports.

I'm taking this one seriously.

the wind has to be worse with it pulling off the shore line, it's like three fronts colliding with each other, can't be good. There were periods of whiteout during this last storm here at our location but it was just the amount of snow, it wasn't wind driven white out conditions. I am hoping more for snow and no freezing rain mixed into it...that causes power lines to go down and more accidents...and a nasty layer of ice to hit when plowing and shoveling. The trees fared pretty well with this last storm, they shook it off in less than a day and I didn't see too much breakage, but again, if we get ice first and then snow on top of it...will be a mess. Just snow please...

Oh well, at least from here on the east coast, all we can do it pass it along to the mighty Atlantic ocean, and let the oceans of the world sort it out...

All I know is I'll be shoveling another 18 inches of "global warming" off my sidewalk Wednesday...

Because of the amount of snow we get here most everybody has a 4X4 pickup or some form of a 4 wheel drive car. Without 4 wheel drive you don't go anywhere in the winter. They don't use salt on the roads (we voted that down) and only sand on the main highway.

Luckily we don't get freezing rain.

Snow and ice there, too.

Several years ago in Marquette we had 320 inches of snow for the season. We know how to handle big snow up here. But a storm with 24 to 30 inches followed up 3 days later by another storm of 18 inches of heavy wet snow would certainly be a newsmaker even up here. We would deal with it a lot better but we have the equipment and experience to handle it. In a major metropolitan or suburban area who might get that much snow over one to two months to have it all dumped within 5 days then yes it's a big, big deal for them.

Up here along the Washington/BC border it is sunny with a little lake fog and going to be around 40F. All snow has been gone for 3 weeks and there is no ice on the lake at all - even a guy with his metal detector out wading around in it.

The Olympics in Vancouver/Whistler are having to truck and helicopter drop snow to the mountains for some events, so........

it might be an idea if you all on the East coast stand outside and blow really hard westward to change the direction of this storm. We need a bit more moisture out here please.

At least they close my partner's Urgi-Center down for the blizzards. For anyone who has to be out in it, it is supposed to be worse than the last one, where they said that my county would get 4-8" and we got 20", and this time they are saying "blizzard conditions". So be careful everyone. Make sure you have your emergency bag with you if you're out. (omg, I sound like my mom)

I was talking to my folks on the way up and I told my mom that I'll call midnight my time, or earlier if I go in a ditch!

We had some snow at 10:00Am but stopped and started back up about 3:00Pm and now I'm shoveling snow off the roof that covers my back patio as I can see the ruff sawn 2"X6" sagging from the weight of the snow and I'm about half done with the job, I'm taking a break.

I know this will not affect any of us, but I just heard on the news about the coming storm that there is a lot of concern that many grocery stores have not been able to get in their shipments and are about out of groceries.

Not going to be just you Yankee's looks like. Just found this weather statement for the gulf coast.

I got an email with pics from my cousin, who lives just outside of York, of the snow storm ya'll just got a few days ago. One of the pics was of her mailbox..all you could see was just the mailbox and about 3" of the post. And she says now they're expecting at least another foot tonight and tomorow. I love living in the South!

i can see that happening! The roads around here are a mess and covered with ice every where & making for slow and ruff traveling, so getting deliveries may be hampered by the road conditions, Our home is well stocked here so we will not be one of the many looking for resupply of food.

Yeah, that's really the crux of the biscuit. The MD counties have been handling it very poorly so far. People are still getting stuck on the county and state roads in my area. Spots that should have been paid close attention to are being overlooked like small hills at intersections where people get stuck spinning their wheels just trying to go when the light turns green. The plowing has been non-existent on many city roads and if they can't keep the main state routes clear than what good are they? I live very close to a mil base and I'm almost flabbergasted at how poorly road treatments have been handled during the last storm and here we are going into another one and it will be falling on a lot of solid ice that should have already been cleared.

MD thus far gets a D on their weather emergency road cleanup efforts in my book. I shudder to think what it could be like if it gets REALLY bad. Being a mid-westerner I am not phased by snow but I am concerned about the inability of local government to handle it properly, especially when they have had several years of mild winters to build up surpluses...where did the surpluses go? I suspect this is all due to inept and or corrupt officials and at the very least poor planning and there is no excuse for that either.

I just got in (I had a hair appointment ) and the roads are treacherous already. The back roads are still in horrible shape and we already have 4 or so inches from the new storm. Weather.gov has us at 12+ and footsforecast.org has us at 18-24 inches by 2pm tomorrow.

Started snowing here at 19:00 on the dot. Coming down pretty good, got at least an inch already.

I was looking at the expected total accumulation map earlier on weather.com, it has changed since. But at the time, we couldn't get any closer to "dead center" of the deep stuff if we tried...

The good news is, the boss came around this afternoon and told everybody to stay home tomorrow. So I won't need to "waste" that vacation day after all...

Hey, we got enough leftover party food to hold us for more than a couple days. Plus a variety of beer, wine, and hard stuff, that'll keep us busy for weeks. Ahh, the advantages of being the host...
