FHP: Woods Hit Fire Hydrant, Tree

POSTED: 1:57 pm EST November 27, 2009
UPDATED: 2:38 pm EST November 27, 2009
WINDERMERE, Fla. -- WESH 2 News has learned that golfer Tiger Woods was injured when he hit a fire hydrant and then a tree outside his Isleworth home early on Friday morning.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Woods was injured in the crash, which took place at about 2:30 a.m., and was taken to Health Central Hospital. The Orange County Fire Department confirmed that a patient was taken to Health Central, but would not confirm that the patient was Woods.

A source told WESH 2 News that Woods has been treated for facial lacerations.

Woods was driving a 2009 black Cadillac Escalade when he lost control and hit a fire hydrant outside his home and a tree outside his neighbor's home, FHP said.

FHP said the crash is still under investigation. It said alcohol did not play a role in the crash, but that charges are pending.

Tiger Woods Seriously Injured in Car Crash in Florida

Friday, November 27, 2009

Golf great Tiger Woods was seriously injured in a car accident in Florida early Friday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Woods, 33, is in the hospital in very serious condition after a single-car crash at 2:25 a.m. in which he hit a fire hydrant and then a tree, according to the FHP.

The crash is under investigation and charges are pending, but the crash was not alcohol-related, the highway patrol said in its accident report. It wasn't known if he was wearing a seatbelt.

Woods pulled out of his driveway in the Isleworth community when he struck the hydrant. He then plowed into the tree on his neighbor's property. He was taken to Health Central Hospital in Ocoee, Fla.

Woods was apparently traveling under 33 mph because the Cadillac Escalade's

airbags didn't inflate, the FHP said.

The golf champion was gearing up for his fifth Chevron World Challenge title. The $5.75 million tournament is scheduled for Dec. 1-6.

"It should be an exciting week for the fans, and I'm looking forward to competing," Woods said in a Nov. 25 article about the event on his Web site.

Sounds like maybe he wasn't wearing a seatbelt. A branch also could have gone through the windshield.

Anybody notice lately how the MSM is becoming less and less able to provide timely and accurate breaking news?

This happened at 2:30 am local time. Everything is still a big muddle.

But the MSM is in full panic mode now ....

well, if you're not under the influence of alcohol or drugs, why would you crash into a tree?

...someone trying to kidnap you, and you hope a low level crash will allow you to escape unharmed but incapacitate the kidnapper?

...a suicide attempt?

strange, strange, strange.

If one cannot negotiate the street in front of one's own house at 30 mph, it really, really, really, raises the issue of impairment.

And of course being a celebrity, it takes twelve hours until the public is aware and then the whole story gets very "murky".

It was you or me, we would be poster boys on the local news within hours.

Authorities: Tiger Woods hurt in car crash by home
By DOUG FERGUSON

JACKSONVILLE, Florida (AP)—Tiger Woods was injured when his car struck a tree near his mansion in a gated waterfront Florida community early Friday, authorities said.

The Florida Highway Patrol said 33-year-old Woods hit a hydrant and a tree after pulling out of his driveway in his 2009 Cadillac sports utility vehicle.

AP - Nov 27, 2:54 pm EST 1 of 4 Golf Gallery The patrol reported Woods’ injuries as serious, though Woods spokesman Glenn Greenspan said the golfer was treated at the hospital and released in good condition.

The patrol said alcohol was not involved, though the accident remains under investigation. No one else was in the car, patrol spokeswoman Kim Montes said.

Woods, who has won 82 times around the world and 14 majors, returned to his $2.4 million home in the exclusive Isleworth subdivision near Orlando this week after attending a college football game at Stanford University, where he was inducted into its sports hall of fame.

He had traveled to China and Australia this month, winning the Australian Masters on Nov. 15.

Woods was to host his tournament, the Chevron World Challenge, on Monday at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California.

He won six times this year after missing eight months recovering from reconstructive surgery on his left knee. Even though he failed to win a major, Woods said he considered this a successful year because he did not know how his knee would respond.

Rushing to the local 7-11 for a "cravings buy" of sardines and pistrachio ice cream?

Why simply assume it's got to be something bad?

WW

What? Trying to dampen the gossip? That's what we do. :p

Sardines and pistrachio ice cream?!! So she's pregnant!!

It is all a little strange, the reporting at least. Good that he was treated and released though...

Don't rule out some sort of mechanical failure. Rare for a new Cadillac, but after all, it is still a GM car...

Maybe a deer or some other wildlife jumped in front of him... :vik:

Too little info...

Has No Life - Lives on TB
my father in law lives not too far from his new house, and I'll admit I went over to celebrity gawk back in the summer while it was being built. The street he lives on is very narrow, and at night, very dark with all the mangrove and vegetation growing. It would be VERY difficult to get any real speed built up on that road, and there is no real marker that differentiates his driveway from his neighbors. Easy to get confused, I would bet.

Perhaps a flock of flying monkeys distracted him.

One of the news reports indicated the authorites kept it quiet until almost 12 hours later.

By the time this hit the news he had already been treated and released and was resting comfortably at home. It's strange this took over 12 hours on a slow news day to hit the news.

One thing for sure, the msm is waaaay behind on this one.

Hope he is okay.

Tiger Woods prang is just another in a long series of destructive incidents

What's eating Tiger Woods? For the past few months he has been flouncing around tournaments like a spoiled child.

In the rough: Tiger Woods should have everything in the world going for him but right now, it just doesn't seem to be quite enough Photo: GETTY IMAGES

Now he has left his house in the early hours of the morning and had a stand up row with a fire hydrant and a tree. We knew Tiger's driving was wayward these days, but he usually manages to at least stay on the property.
There are now bound to be questions about Tiger's private life. Tiger's entourage has maintained a stiff upper lip, but if all is well at home, where was Woods off to in the early hours of Friday morning? That's the question that Tiger will now have to answer.

It seemed a little late to be practising his ball striking, even if Tiger is due to host his own tournament, the Chevron World Challenge, early next week. Well, if Woods wanted publicity for his event, he's certainly got it now. It's going to be a media circus down there in California.
At most press conferences these days Tiger's agent Mark Steinberg sits at the back and makes the signal when he thinks his client has had enough. But even Steinberg might struggle to turn the taps off next week. The world wants to know just what is going on in Tiger's life right now and they are expecting some answers.
The recent prang is just another in a long series of destructive incidents over the past few months. At the Open Championship in July Woods failed to acknowledge his fans when he turned up on the Sunday. The cap went down and Woods looked straight ahead. It was tunnel vision without even a glimpse of headlights. Woods was looking out from a dark place.
At the Turnberry press conference he was almost rude to several journalists. The media accept this as their lot, but seasoned Tiger watchers were taken aback by just how curt some of his answers were. They veered from the smart ass to the dismissive.
The following month at the Bridgestone Invitational Woods was put on the clock for slow play. He subsequently slated the official responsible and many felt that Woods should have been fined.
When Tiger escaped sanction he hung out to dry a journalist with whom he has been friendly for years. We began to wonder what was going on with Woods. Maybe he was still grumpy after coming back from reconstructive knee surgery or maybe there was something more.
At the USPGA Championship the following week Tiger took the lead going into the final round of a major for the 15th time and lost for the first time in his career. Mr Invincible had just been beaten. Why was he suddenly vulnerable?
The greatest sign of a golfer's strength of mind lies in his putting. In the major years Tiger has been the greatest putter the world has ever seen. But suddenly he had started missing. He was no longer making the crucial putts that used to break his opponents. Was it just age or was there another reason for the frailty?
Tiger's behaviour on the final day of that USPGA appalled many an old pro. He showed a lack of proper respect for his playing partner Y.E. Yang. On one occasion Tiger left the green when Yang still had to make a vital putt.
The five time Open champion Peter Thomson wanted to go on the record after that incident. He told Telegraph Sport: "I wish he'd smile more. He injures his image by being morose and petulant. There is also very little consideration for the fellow he is playing with. He could show more humility."
Earlier this month Tiger traveled down to Thomson's own back yard to play in the Australian Masters at Melbourne. His behaviour had not improved. On the Saturday Tiger threw his driver into the crowd in a fit of temper and then retrieved it with glassy disdain.
So just what is eating Tiger? As Thomson said, where has the smile gone? Tiger should have everything in the world going for him. He has a beautiful wife, two young children, a £1.5 million mansion and a world of talent and charisma. But right now, it just doesn't seem to be quite enough.

Tiger Woods & Wife Argued Before Crash

Posted Nov 27th 2009 6:10PM by TMZ Staff

Multiple law enforcement sources tell TMZ Tiger Woods' early morning accident came right after an argument with his wife, Elin Nordegren.

We're told Elin told cops about the argument at the scene of the accident and Tiger gave the same story to authorities at the hospital where he was treated.

One Florida law enforcement official called it "a domestic issue."

Elin apparently was able to forgive and forget -- according to Windermere Police Chief Daniel Saylor, Nordegren smashed out the back window of Tiger's car to help get him out.

Woods ran into a fire hydrant and a tree at around 2:20 AM near his home in Florida. He was treated for minor injuries and released.

He had to have floored it to have hit that fire hydrant with enough force to get injured, given how short that driveway is.

I'm not taking credit for thinking of this first, having seen this elsewhere, but the timing of this accident dovetails nicely with what happened in Dubai over the last 48 hours.

He does have some (a lot of?) money invested in property over there.
