Well, he allegedly claimed that Baxter was working on a bioweapon in the Ukraine, that the vaccines being manufactured there have 1918 flu in them. Evidence appears to suggest that Baxter International may be responsible for a new deadly outbreak of viral pneumonia in Ukraine.

Later in the year, a bizarre story emerged on the internet. The news was full of reports on (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/08/14/man-suspected-of-making-t_n_259330.html) a man named Joseph Moshe who was arrested after a hours long standoff with the police because he had supposedly made threats against the White House. The man was able to withstand multiple rounds of tear gas...which left L.A. police officers amazed.

However, the internet community was very skeptical of the true reasons behind the man's arrest. Comments on the Huffington Post website immediately began pouring in about an unreported side to this story, namely that Joseph Moshe was a Mossad Agent who specialized in biological warfare and who called into a radio show to warn people about a biological weapn that was being made by Baxter international that would be spread through vaccine and would cause a plague upon its release.

Although anyone can make a doomsday claim and we should never believe anyone (and it must be said that the Truth movement handled this well, the message was spread without being proclaimed as gospel) the amazing part about Moshe's claim was the location where Moshe said the biological weapon was being produced.

Moshe claimed that Baxter's laboratory in the Ukraine out of all places was creating this biological weapon. All of this came out in the beginning of August, which is more than 2 months before the situation that is currently unfolding. For Moshe to correctly name the country where a new epidemic would be unleashed, requires either inside information, or an incredible coincidence as anyone with a basic knowledge of statistics can confirm for himself.

This makes the odds of being right when guessing that a deadly flu is going to break out in the Ukraine even smaller. This case of what appears to be a brave man who sacrificed it all to bring us this message may explain why so many microbiologists have been murdered. The fact that this man managed to predict an outbreak of highly lethal influenza in a place where we would least expect it, 2 months before it a actually occured, lends credence to his claim that Baxter International is responsible for the outbreak and shows that top microbiologists can pose a problem to the people responsible for this ongoing disaster.

Two of the dead patients were in the 22-35 age group, with 2 others over 60. He diagnosed the disease as viral pneumonia.

Viral tests can last from one to two weeks. They are complicated and not done in Lviv. The course of the disease was very quick. The symptoms included very high temperature and short-wind cough.

All the six dead young people had symptoms of severe hemmorhagic pneumonia. The disease starts slowly, with temperature rising to 37.2 * 37.3 degrees, slight cough and pain in joints. Nasal catarrh developed at the end of the second or third day. Autopsy revealed that the lungs were soaked with blood, the oblast chief specialist said.

Certainly do remember the Moshe story, completely ignored and obfuscated by the American propaganda establishment. The Moshe story reminded me, seemed very similar to, the story about CIA agent Roland Carnaby, executed by law enforcement in bushland, said execution even filmed and aired on Texas TV, then the story disappears. Of course all of this fear and loathing is just a coincidence.

And, suddenly, lots of people are dying in Ukraine from this flu outbreak - a much more deadly form of the flu than has been seen anywhere else.

Baxter Pharmaceuticals has a vaccine development and production lab in Ukraine and in the past has been proven to have shipped dangerous live agents to other countries, notably AIDS in blood products that killed thousands of people a few years ago. This past spring, Czechoslovakia happened to test some Baxter vaccine and found live virus, something about which you may have heard.

Baxter, the source of the flu vaccine now being distributed over there, cannot be trusted! The Ukrainian people are not being told any of this or about what this Moshe character said just prior to being arrested in August over here. I am forwarding this column to all my friends in Ukraine tonight.

There is extreme danger from this flu pandemic in Ukraine right now and you should take especial precautions, wherever you live. Particularly, get a supply of Tamiflu, if possible, and start taking it at the first sign of symptoms (headache, fever, dry cough, aches/pains and extreme fatigue). It works. I have used it myself in the past. This flu operates very fast, often within just 3 - 6 hours, and is very deadly. You will not have time to get Tamiflu once you have symptoms.

I predict that we will see this all over the globe by the end of the month. This could kill a lot of people. A lot, as in millions. Already, you can bank upon this infection being in many other countries, now going through its gestation period. It is infectious before symptoms really manifest. We will know by this time next week.

Today, the MSM are not talking about this case any more. Yesterday, they wanted us to believe that Joseph Moshe was a nutcase and a terrorist, arrested for threatening to bomb the White House. Interesting detail about his arrest (the “Westwood standoff”) was that he seemed to be immune to the 5 cans of tear gas and 5 gallons of law-enforcement grade pepper spray they pumped into his face. He very calmly remained in his car, as the video footage of his arrest shows.

Moshe did not suffer the same effects of the gas and pepper spray that others would have because he had built up an immunity to such weapons as a by-product of his Mossad training. Moshe was not handcuffed because he was not placed under arrest.

Does this sound like an insane conspiracy theory? Sure it does. Due to the scarcity and anonimity of the sources we would dismiss it as exactly that, if it weren’t for some uncomfortable facts: Baxter Pharmaceutical has been caught, red-handed, in spreading a live, genetically engineered H5N1 Bird flu vaccine as a lethal biological weapon all over the world, destined to be used for human vaccinations. This happened just a few months ago. And only luck prevented a global catastrophe of epic proportions.

Baxter International Inc. had mixed live, genetically engineered avian flue viruses in vaccine material shipped to 18 countries. Only by sheer luck, a Czech laboratory decided to test the vaccine on a dozen ferrets, which all died in days. The World Health Organization was notified and catastrophe was averted. This was clearly a deliberate act on Baxter’s part, because they adhere to BS3, bio-safety level three. Baxter admitted a “mistake”. Such monumental screwups are totally impossible at that level. Many safety systems would have needed to be sabotaged, many key personell would have needed to be bribed. It simply can’t be done without direction from the inside. They did not send out the wrong vial – they produced dozens of gallons of biological-weapon agent (genetically engineered live H5N1 / Bird flu virus), then sent it out as a “vaccine”.

Baxter knew full well that their vaccine was lethal, because the year before they had tested it on a few hundred homeless Polish people – dozens died as a result.

Where’s the meat? Well – Baxter is now being sued for the deliberate, repeated contamination of vaccines with biological weapons designed – by them – to mass-murder people. Here is the complaint (PDF). By some kook nutcase? Not likely – Jane Burgermeister is an experienced, respected journalist. She is not the only one suing Baxter for planning and executing a plan for global genocide: Others are filing complaints as well. Read a well-researched complaint here (PDF).

Qui bono? We think it may be profit-motivated or even sheer incompetence, but for the conspiracy-minded: The latter complaint alludes to intentional “culling of the herd”. Have you heard of the Georgia Guidestones? An enormous monument loaded with Masonic symbolism costing millions of dollars, it has been erected by unknown, powerful elites (multimillionaires with the clout to erect monuments wherever they please, obviously) around 30 years ago. It gives an “alternative ten commandments”, of which the first is the extermination of six and a half billion people from the face of the Earth. Half a billion will remain. This is the number of people the planet can sustain indefinitely, so that the descendents of the Rothschilds and Rockefellers can live in peace and affluence indefinitely. Slaves are needed to produce that luxury, but 500 million will do just fine. But how does one go about killing off most of the world?

“Vaccinating” the planet with a bioweapon with near-100% mortality would do the trick. Baxter would provide both the bioweapon as well as the vaccine against it to “civilized” Western peoples. Result: We can plunder Africa, we have no more competition from SE Asia, the oil is for our taking and only Western and perhaps Chinese sheeple remain.

Rockefeller said this in 1994 at a U.N. dinner: “We are on the verge of a global transformation. All we need is the right major crisis, and the nations will accept the New World Order.” PNAC said something similar right before 9/11.

One Flu Over the Ukraine's Nest

What moves me today? It appears that the massive biological pandemic that I have forecast for many years, most recently specifying this Fall (that's right now, folks), has arrived in the break-away Soviet republic of Ukraine over the past week. You say you haven't heard about it yet? You will. There has been no news coverage in the West so far, so near as I can tell, but this story is too big and moving too fast to cover up much longer. I have seen a number of Internet postings on the Ukrainian epidemic and, even, a few UTube videos already. I have heard the story developing since last week from correspondents of mine in Ukraine who have been witnessing things first hand. School and public offices have all been closed. President Yuschenko has declared a state of emergency and issued a plea for international help. Reports of up to 3,000 deaths (unconfirmed) already are leaking out.

So far, the worst of this outbreak is in Western Ukraine, in and around the city of Lviv, but a few hundred kilometers to the East, in the capital city of Kiev, nearly half the people now stalk the streets wearing surgical masks. It would be an understatement to say that the people of Ukraine are moving into full panic mode. I can see why. So should you. I will explain why in a moment.

Ukrainian authorities are unclear that this outbreak is the same as or, even, a close variant of the Swine Flu now sweeping over the planet. Maybe it is just a lethal mutation. Likely not, however. They are calling it both a viral pneumonia and bacteriological hemorrhagic fever. The symptoms mimic those of Swine Flu, though on steroids. People die with their lungs dissolving almost overnight, filled with fluids and blood. This is the exact, same pattern as followed by the 1917 Spanish Flu, which struck down the healthiest among the population, those with the strongest immune systems. The rampup over the summer has been identical to 1917, too.

Here's why you are at special risk if you are young and healthy: Your vital and responsive immune system is the very thing that kills you, by overreacting to the infection via what is called a Cytokeine Storm. A great many of the people now dying have underlying conditions as well, particularly those of a respiratory nature such as asthma, when they take ill.

There is extreme danger from this flu pandemic in Ukraine right now and you should take especial precautions, wherever you live. Particularly, get a supply of Tamiflu, if possible, and start taking it at the first sign of symptoms (headache, fever, dry cough, aches/pains and extreme fatigue). It works. I have used it myself in the past. This flu operates very fast, often within just 3 - 6 hours, and is very deadly. You will not have time to get Tamiflu once you have symptoms.

I predict that we will see this all over the globe by the end of the month. This could kill a lot of people. A lot, as in millions. Already, you can bank upon this infection being in many other countries, now going through its gestation period. It is infectious before symptoms really manifest. We will know by this time next week.

Can the government legally force people to take the H1N1 swine flu vaccine?

The answer is most likely, yes.

This issue was raised in a 1905 U.S. Supreme Court case entitled, Jacobson v. Massachusetts. Defendants argued that the state of Massachusetts could not legally force public school children to get vaccinated. The Court disagreed, rejecting the argument that vaccination violated the "inherent right to care for his own body and health in such a way as to him seems best."

In a later case, Washington v. Harper, the U.S. Supreme Court held that a state's interest in maintaining the safety and security of its prison justified forced medication of inmates in reasonable furtherance of its goal.

These cases established a line of precedent that put the state's police power ahead of privacy and liberty interests relating to the individual's own healthy self-care. The "police power" is the state's ability to regulate health, safety, welfare and morals under the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Dear Readers, For those of you who miss my patient case studies, forgive me. I will be back to my regular format next month. This information is too important and, for some people, it may be lifesaving. In last month’s article, we discussed the H1N1 vaccine, its safety profile (or lack thereof), the possibility of mandatory vaccination and some of the things you could do to optimize your immune system. It has been a very turbulent month considering the controversy over healthcare and the continuing recession. I don’t think it is an overstatement to say that people are frightened about government spending, rising unemployment and fears of a “pandemic.” It’s time for a little empowerment. Let’s continue our discussion on the H1N1 vaccine.

Clinical trials are ongoing at this time to determine the efficacy and appropriate dose of the H1N1 vaccine to cause the development of antibodies to the H1N1 virus. If you go to the website www.clinicaltrials.gov (and type H1N1 in the blank labeled: Search Terms), a list of the active, recruiting and completed studies are listed. On the day I wrote this article, there were 59 studies listed for the H1N1 virus/vaccine. Of the current, active studies of the H1N1 vaccine, none of them are scheduled to be completed before April 2010. Are they expecting the American public to roll up their sleeves for untried vaccine? How can they make a decision on the safety before all the data is in?

I ask that question, but is there any doubt what the results of the studies will recommend? On August 15, 2009, the FDA approved vaccines made by the following companies: CSL Limited, MedImmune LLC, Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics Limited and Sanofi Pasteur. All four firms manufacture the H1N1 vaccines using the same processes. It is important to appreciate that this vaccine has been fast-tracked, meaning that many of the usual safety precautions used to prevent contamination of the vaccines will be overlooked by the regulatory agencies. 1 The government insists that the H1N1 vaccine is undergoing the same testing as the seasonal flu vaccine. But haven’t they told us that the H1N1 virus is different, with the potential to cause illness and loss of life on a grand scale? Approval by the FDA does not make this vaccine safe.

Many of the current, active studies are using forms of the vaccine that are non-adjuvanted. That is to say they do not contain squalene, MF-59, AS03 or AS04. Adjuvants are extremely important when discussing vaccines. An adjuvant is a substance that is added to the vaccine to improve the immune response. Squalene has been shown to induce hyperimmune responses and has been associated with the development of autoimmune disorders. The government does have a history of saying one thing and doing another. During the 1976 swine flu vaccine disaster, they tested one vaccine and then gave a different one during the mass vaccinations. Over 500 people developed Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS).

1. A letter from the Health Protection Agency (the official body that oversees public health in England) written on July 29, 2009, was sent to British neurologists warning them to be alert for possible development of GBS which could be triggered by the vaccine.

2. I do not know if the vaccine being used in the clinical studies contains thimerosal, but we do know that the vaccine they plan to use on the general public will. Despite the known toxicity of mercury, the government continues to dismiss concerns regarding the addition of thimerosal to the vaccines. On July 30, 2009, US Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius confirmed that the Swine Flu (H1N1) vaccine will contain the mercury based preservative thimerosal.

I wish I could give you some “warm fuzzies” showing the government has your best interests at heart. The truth is that our government has Big Pharma at heart. It has been reported that there have been behind the scene, closed door agreements with the large pharmaceutical companies regarding the current healthcare issue. The drug industry's chief lobbyist, PhRMA President W.J. Tauzin said an unwritten agreement was reached with Democratic Sen. Max Baucus of Montana, chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, and was closely monitored and "blessed" by the White House. Under the deal, the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, or PhRMA, agreed to provide $80 billion in cost savings over 10 years. It also promised to promote healthcare reform in a multimillion-dollar ad campaign. In return, the White House agreed to consider the $80 billion as a cap on PhRMA's costs in the overhaul legislation. In addition, it has been reported that the White House agreed not to require rebates on sales of commonly prescribed drugs to patients enrolled jointly in Medicaid and Medicare.3 It has also been reported that the industry asked the government not to allow the import of generic drugs “because of safety issues.” Right... Didn’t I say no warm fuzzies?

So what are your options? If you do not want to take the vaccine or you do not want your children vaccinated, here is some information you need to know. You can get a waiver to decline the vaccination for you and your children.4 Many states allow for personal belief waivers, more allow for religious waivers. Two states allow for medical waivers only.

Being the doubting thomas, could it be that the factual accounts of Ben-Joesph have been mixed in to what's happening in the Ukraine and is being a little overhyped? But on the other hand, the SWAT team takedown of him was curious back when it happened, and what's happening in the Ukraine is pretty curious as well. I'm not doubting you Cascadians, but getting facts from the hype is important, since this situation could potentially be huge.

Later in the year, a bizarre story emerged on the internet. The news was full of reports on (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/0..._n_259330.html) a man named Joseph Moshe who was arrested after a hours long standoff with the police because he had supposedly made threats against the White House. The man was able to withstand multiple rounds of tear gas...which left L.A. police officers amazed.

However, the internet community was very skeptical of the true reasons behind the man's arrest. Comments on the Huffington Post website immediately began pouring in about an unreported side to this story, namely that Joseph Moshe was a Mossad Agent who specialized in biological warfare and who called into a radio show to warn people about a biological weapn that was being made by Baxter international that would be spread through vaccine and would cause a plague upon its release.

Although anyone can make a doomsday claim and we should never believe anyone (and it must be said that the Truth movement handled this well, the message was spread without being proclaimed as gospel) the amazing part about Moshe's claim was the location where Moshe said the biological weapon was being produced.

Moshe claimed that Baxter's laboratory in the Ukraine out of all places was creating this biological weapon. All of this came out in the beginning of August, which is more than 2 months before the situation that is currently unfolding. For Moshe to correctly name the country where a new epidemic would be unleashed, requires either inside information, or an incredible coincidence as anyone with a basic knowledge of statistics can confirm for himself.

This case of what appears to be a brave man who sacrificed it all to bring us this message may explain why so many microbiologists have been murdered. Five persons have died from the flue in Lviv, four men and one woman, says emergency hospital chief doctor Myron Borysevych.

Two of the dead patients were in the 22-35 age group, with 2 others over 60. He diagnosed the disease as viral pneumonia.

Viral tests can last from one to two weeks. They are complicated and not done in Lviv. The course of the disease was very quick. The symptoms included very high temperature and short-wind cough.

All the six dead young people had symptoms of severe hemmorhagic pneumonia. The disease starts slowly, with temperature rising to 37.2 * 37.3 degrees, slight cough and pain in joints. Nasal catarrh developed at the end of the second or third day. Autopsy revealed that the lungs were soaked with blood, the oblast chief specialist said.

German Soldiers to Receive Different Swine Flu Vaccine Than German People

According to a newspaper article, the German military has ordered it's own special vaccine for it's 250000 soldiers. Different from the serum which the civilian population will be vaccinated with, "the more compatible vaccine for the soldiers will not contain any contended additives nor will it contain any mercury preservatives", has been reported by the Bielefelder "Westfalen-Blatt" under reference to military sources. The announcement came in response to a report in daily Westfalen-Blatt, which said that Bundeswehr soldiers and their families on foreign deployments or preparing for missions overseas would receive the inoculations.

The A/H1N1 flu shots given to soldiers will contain neither a controversial strengthening additive, nor the preservative agent mercury, both of which are contained in the shots for the general public.

Additive-free Celvapan, manufactured by the US pharmaceutical company Baxter, was approved on October 6 for use in the European Union.

Defence Ministry spokesman Thomas Raabe said the Bundeswehr needs to be able to quickly and impartially inoculate soldiers and their dependants on foreign missions to ensure they were protected.

Raabe said that not all of the Bundeswehr‘s 250,000 soldiers could be vaccinated at once, but added it is important that the 7,200 troops on foreign missions receive the first shots, he said.

Some doctors have warned of unforeseeable side effects to the other EU-approved vaccines Pandemrix, made by British firm GlaxoSmithKline, and Focetria, manufactured by Swiss company Novartis.

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) - Urging its citizens not to panic, Ukraine on Monday closed down all schools nationwide for a week to avoid the spread of swine flu and suggested that nightclubs, cinemas and food markets in the west also shut down.

The World Health Organization said Monday there was no evidence that Ukraine had a bad outbreak of swine flu but at the government's request it had sent a health team in to help the country cope.

"But this is not an indication that the situation is severe," said WHO spokeswoman Liuba Negru. "The information we have gotten (from the government), we have to double-check it and make sure it is real, evidence-based information."

Ukraine's Health Ministry said Monday that 67 people in the nation of 40 million have died of flu, but did not say how many of those deaths were related to swine flu. Worldwide, outbreaks of regular seasonal flu claim 50,000 lives each year.

Nevertheless, all schools have been closed for a week across Ukraine, even in the capital, Kiev, where there have been no confirmed cases of swine flu.

In western Ukraine, local authorities advised people to travel only when necessary, a Health Ministry spokeswoman said.

All outdoor markets have been closed in the western region of Lviv, where the governor also urged cinemas, cafes, nightclubs and theaters to shut down until further notice.

Some observers, including the speaker of the parliament, Vladimir Litvin, suggested that these measures are the result of political wrangling ahead of the country's presidential election in January. The pivotal vote could overturn the 2004 Orange Revolution that swept a pro-Western government to power.

"We are seeing a political competition to see who will be the first to lead this process (of fighting swine flu)," Litvin said, according to the UNIAN news agency.

Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko met a Swiss shipment of anti-viral drugs at the Kiev airport on Monday.

"The government has declared the situation an epidemic, but there is absolutely no need to panic," she declared on national television.

Her main rival, President Viktor Yushchenko, said thousands were infected and called for assistance from NATO, the European Commission, the United States, Russia and other countries.

Konstantin Bondarenko, director of the Gorshenin Institute, a political consultancy, said that Tymoshenko has the most to lose from public sentiment over the outbreak, as state health officials answer to her.

"Right now all the candidates are weighing their political options, looking around for a theme, and this is a very hot topic right now. The panic is there, and they are acting on it," Bondarenko said.

After receiving the shipment of 300,000 doses of Tamiflu at Kiev's Borispol airport, Tymoshenko said her government plans to increase its hoard of the drug by another 300,000 to 950,000 doses.

"This is the supply that will reliably protect Ukraine," Tymoshenko said, ITAR-Tass news agency reported.

Viktor Yanukovych, the Regions' Party candidate for the presidency, has not yet commented on the swine flu uproar. Yanukovych, who was beaten in 2005 by Yushchenko, is leading in the polls with a platform that emphasizes closer ties with Russia.

During the past five years of Yushchenko's presidency, relations with Moscow reached historic lows. Yushchenko's approval ratings at home have fallen to single digits in the wake of the economic crisis, which hit Ukraine hard, and years of political gridlock with Tymoshenko.

On 28 October 2009, the Ministry of Health of the Ukraine informed WHO, through its Country Office in Ukraine, about an unusually high level of activity of acute respiratory illness in the western part of the country, associated with an increased number of hospital admissions and fatalities.

On 30 October 2009, the Ministry of Health of the Ukraine announced the confirmation of pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus infection by RT-PCR in eleven out of 30 samples obtained from patients presenting with acute respiratory illness in two of the most affected regions. Tests were performed in two laboratories in Kyiv, including the National Influenza Centre. Confirmatory tests will be performed at one of the WHO Collaborating Centres for Influenza.

The situation is quickly changing with increasingly high levels of acute respiratory illness (ARI)/Influenza-like-illness (ILI) activity being observed in Ternopil, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Chernivtsi regions. The higher levels of transmission in these regions corresponds to an increased number of hospital admissions and fatalities associated with severe manifestations of acute respiratory illness.

As of 30 October 2009, over 2,300 individuals have been admitted to hospital, including over 1,100 children. One hundred and thirty one (131) cases have required intensive care, including 32 children. As of 31 October 2009, a total of 38 fatalities associated with severe manifestations of ARI have been registered. Preliminary epidemiological data analysis indicates that severe cases and deaths primarily occur among previously healthy young adults aged 20 – 50 years. Fatal and severe cases are reported to have sought medical attention 5 to 7 days after onset of symptoms.

International experience of the (H1N1) 2009 pandemic to date, especially from the Southern Hemisphere, has shown that poor clinical outcomes are associated with delays in seeking health care and limited access to supportive care. In addition, this virus has also shown its ability to cause rapidly progressive overwhelming lung disease which is very difficult to treat.

Public health measures recommended by the Ministry of Health of the Ukraine across the entire country include: social distancing (school closures and cancellation of mass gatherings); enhancement of surveillance activities; increased respiratory hygiene; and continuation of the vaccination campaign against seasonal influenza targeting at risk groups.

The Government of the Ukraine has activated coordination mechanisms to respond to the rapidly evolving situation, including the harmonization of response plans across all administrative levels.

In response to the request from the Minister of Health of the Ukraine, WHO is deploying a multi-disciplinary team of experts to assist national authorities in mitigating the impact of the pandemic. The team comprises of the following expertise: health emergencies coordination, case management, epidemiology, laboratory diagnostics, logistics, and media/risk communications.

As per WHO's communication in May 2009, there is no rationale for travel restrictions because such measures will not prevent the spread of the disease.

Travellers can protect themselves and others by following simple recommendations aimed at preventing the spread of infection such as attention to respiratory hygiene. Individuals who are ill should delay travel plans and returning travellers who fall ill should seek appropriate medical care. These recommendations are prudent measures which can limit the spread of many communicable diseases and not only the pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus.

3 November 2009 -- According to the Ministry of Health of the Ukraine, the country has now recorded more than 250,000 cases of influenza-like illness, with 235 patients requiring intensive care. As of 2 November, 70 deaths from acute respiratory illness have been reported.

Regions in western Ukraine continue to show the highest rates of acute respiratory illness/influenza-like illness. The level of activity in the Kyiv area is also increasing rapidly.

Laboratory testing in Ukraine has confirmed pandemic H1N1 influenza virus in samples taken from patients in two of the most affected regions. As the pandemic virus has rapidly become the dominant influenza strain worldwide, it can be assumed that most cases of influenza in Ukraine are caused by the H1N1 virus.

As elsewhere, WHO strongly recommends early treatment with the antiviral drugs, oseltamivir or zanamivir, for patients who meet treatment criteria, even in the absence of a positive laboratory test confirming H1N1 infection.

At the request of the government, a multi-disciplinary team of nine experts has been deployed by WHO and arrived in Kyiv yesterday evening. Discussions with the Minister of Health were held this morning to brief the team.

Team members will now begin field investigations to characterize the clinical and epidemiological features of the outbreak. Work will initially begin in Lviv region, where reported numbers of cases showing severe manifestations of acute respiratory illness have been especially high. Two virologists on the team have started working at the National Influenza Centre and the laboratories of the Central Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Kyiv to provide diagnostic support.

Samples sent by the Ministry of Health were received today by the WHO Collaborating Centre for Reference and Research on Influenza, Mill Hill in London, UK. The laboratory will conduct confirmatory tests and further characterize the virus.

Many questions remain to be answered. The outbreak in Ukraine may be indicative of how the virus can behave in the northern hemisphere during the winter season, particularly in health care settings typically found in Eastern Europe.

Given the potential significance of this outbreak as an early warning signal, WHO commends the government of Ukraine for its transparent reporting and open sharing of samples.

WHO continues to recommend no closing of borders and no restrictions on international travel, including to Ukraine. Experience shows that such measures will not stop further spread of the virus.

I'm in touch with a med student who is in Lviv and he's confirmed the situation is extremely bad there, the number of hemorrhagic cases has been astronomical (in his words).

Something that might prove useful - the use of the term SARS in the reports is a translational error apparently. Like the regional reports of "pneumonic plague" the descriptive terms in Russian and Ukrainian dialect were replaced with what turned out to be a very poor choice of words when translated to English. Quite a few people are taking both literally and believe Ukraine has a guarter million plague infected!

We already covered the plague but I was curious about the reports of SARS in the case breakdowns. He didn't clarify what the intended term was just that our concept of SARS as the Asian disease is not what it means.

I have to say the media and WHO efforts in the West to downplay the severity of H1N1 has not helped the situation at all. There are claims that medical staff in Ukraine were not aware of the hemorrhagic symptoms possible in H1N1 victims (the first reports of this came from Mexico City) and the health minister keeps making statements in the press that Ukraine is dealing with a mutation of the virus. I've considered the political pressures he is no doubt under to excuse the complete lack of preparation but I don't think he could possibly know for sure if there is a mutation or not at this time.

People in the region have reported light airplanes spraying at night, (most likely an effort at the aeroclave pandemic response) but by not publicly announcing it the rumors of bio weapon use and other conspiracies surrounding the election have people stirred into near total panic. I've had several first hand reports of eyewitnesses to the spraying so I personally believe it, I just doubt its an effort to infect the populace.

A quarantine is being enforced in Lviv by police who are forcing people to remain indoors, the border is still open and flights are available, my med student friend is leaving later today, hopefully without a viral souvenir to take home. "

532 persons with pneumonia (was 368 on Sunday according to the article). No mention if they are hospitalized or not.

And here flu data for October of the past three years for city of Ivano-Frankivsk(from same article, quoted by Head sanitary doctor of Ivano-Frankivsk):
October 2007: 5828 persons
October 2008: 5445 persons
October 2009: 18080 persons

Quite a difference I would say.

And further (from same article):

translated: while on Sunday 751 persons called on medical assistance, on Monday the number was 2648 persons.

Whether this means visited a doctor or hospitalized is not clear, they do not use clear definitions. "

Now I am far from the sharpest crayon in the box but the Ukraine is a former Soviet Republic and even as a country it's not exactly a small one. If these numbers are right 2,300 have been admitted to the hospital, out of that only 131 need to go to intensive care and there have been 38 fatalities in the whole nation. Yet this was posted as 'Holy $#!+ For Real BIOTERROR Attack! This is REAL !!!' I'm not trying to be snippy but I can't connect these numbers with a definite bioterror attack as of yet. Everything else about Bar-Joseph Moshe may or not be accurate but unless the numbers are much much worse than admitted I wouldn't be wetting my pants just yet.

The question is what does "recorded more than 250,000 cases" mean? Over what period of time? What were the criteria? Did doctors report these cases from medical files, did people self-report, was it an Internet poll?

The jump from 130 to 235 patients requiring intensive care is not really out of line with what we have seen with swine flu elsewhere. 70 deaths in a population of 46 million is not terribly surprising either.

WHO Targets Hemorrhagic H1N1 Cases in Lviv Ukraine

Work will initially begin in Lviv region, where reported numbers of cases showing severe manifestations of acute respiratory illness have been especially high. Two virologists on the team have started working at the National Influenza Centre and the laboratories of the Central Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Kyiv to provide diagnostic support.

The above comments from the WHO update on Ukraine strike a more serious tone than yesterday's quotes from WHO spokespersons playing down the alarming number of hospitalized and fatal cases, as well as media reports spinning political considerations, or politicians claiming only 15 confirmed H1N1 cases. As the WHO update clearly states, the dominant influenza circulating worldwide is swine H1N1 and it is assumed that most cases in the Ukraine are swine H1N1. Since the official government website lists 19,189 influenza cases (in addition to more than 235,000 ARI cases), the willingness of politicians to cite 15 confirmed cases, as well as media support in the distribution of the propaganda, is unfortunate.

The more severe manifestation of ARI cases are clearly hemorrhagic disease that fills lungs with blood and produces bleeding at all orifices, which are stark reminders of 1918 pandemic cases which were also linked to a swine H1N1.

Samples have arrived at Mill Hill in London, and sequence data should be available shortly. Since current swine H1N1 produced lethal infections in previously healthy young adults, and produced hemorrhagic disease, changes in the viral genome may be absent or minor. Therefore, release of the sequences to the entire scientific community would be useful.

Similarly, an update on the number of hemorrhagic cases would be useful. Rumors have suggested that such the number of such cases is significantly higher than the six described in media reports.

Swine flu has a free run. Those under 60 don't have antibodies, so the virus can run through the population. That is why it is spreading like widefire in schools. There is a little bit of seasonal influenza A in Asia and Africa, but in Europe and North America, its ALL swine flu with NO competition.

Lviv, November 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) - A total of 760 medical employees have come down with the flu and acute respiratory infections, chief of the healthcare department of Lviv city council, Volodymyr Zub, said at a press conference on Tuesday

"Fifteen of them are receiving in-patient treatment," Zub said.

According to him, in particular, 198 doctors, 312 nurses and 257 other medical personnel have flu and acute respiratory infections.

He said that currently over 10% of the staff of the city's medical establishments are ill, and moreover, their number is growing.

This part at least is significantly different from the H1N1 we have been seeing here. Even in the severe cases although there is degregation of the lung tissue I have not heard anything in the U.S. about the hemorrhagic aspects including bleeding from the orfices. If that's true then that is as bad as Ebola and others although it remains to be see the percentage of those with symptoms that develop the severe symptoms.

Rail traffic in Ukraine will be restricted due to the epidemiological situation in the country, Health Minister Vasyl Kniazevych has said.

Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said earlier that travelling between the regions and abroad could be restricted. Border guards also tightened controls, and if they find any symptoms of flu in people who cross the state border, they will immediately send them to local hospitals. Quarantine was imposed in the country's nine western regions due to the epidemic of the H1N1 influenza, commonly known as swine flu. It was also decided to declare a three-week ban on all mass events and introduce a three-week holiday period at all educational institutions.

Samples have been sent to London for analysis and a permanent link to WHO has been established. The situation appears to be quite fluid and transmission could be exacerbated by the upcoming holiday weekend.

The above comments describe restrictions in western Ukraine linked to an H1N1 outbreak. The government site lists 30 fatalities, but media reports suggest the number may be closer to 100. The fatal pneumonia cases are been described at multiple locations in western Ukraine (see map), but the total number of infections are unclear.

Early reports cited 10,000 cases throughout the country, but the government tally includes 27,300 in the Ternopil Oblast alone.

Thus, the case fatality rate is unclear, but the numbers appear to be rising and may be closer to 100 than the 30 listed in the official tally.

More specifics on the number dead and hospitalized, and sequence data on isolates from the fatal cases would be useful.

The above comments describe a WHO investigational team being formed in response to the outbreak in Ukraine (see map). Although the story is evolving, some reports describe a dramatic spread of the virus to 80,000 people, with as many as 100 fatalities. The early reports describing 100 fatalities mentioned 10,000 infections, which would create an alarming case fatality rate of 1%. The newer cases would lower the rate, assuming the most recent cases don't follow the pattern described in the first 10,000 cases.

Media reports included descriptions of blood filled lungs, raising visions of the 1918 pandemic, which also involved swine H1N1 that jumped to humans and was efficiently transmitted. Samples have already been sent to London for analysis, and immediate release of initial sequence data would be useful.

Small changes can have dramatic effects when viruses jump species, and the rapid spread of the H1N1 in western Ukraine is clearly cause for concern.
