I thought this was a pretty good deal:

From Graveyardmall.com

Graveyard Mall is offering 100 AAA Rayovac Maximum Plus batteries for $8.99 + $5.99 shipping. The batteries are cosmetically blemished but otherwise in brand new condition.

It is a real cheap price -

Just FYI - I've taken advantage of Rayovac brand AA bulk-buy batteries in the past and won't again, as the 1/3rd of the batteries have been tested out as dead after storing for three-four years. Kirkland, Duracell and Energizers stored the same way and *even a year or two older* have 100% held up just fine. Despite being tested well within the stamped "Expiration Date", too high a storage failure rate for Rayovac, something very wrong in production QC IMO....

I'm not sure what brand the Dollar Store carries, but they have 8 and 12 packs for a buck. Quite likely Ray-o-vac's.

I am currently using some Duracell AA and AAA cells I stored in 1999 for the Y2K rollover, and they work fine. I am now a Duracell customer for life.

My personal preference is for Energizers. I have never had an Energizer or Kirkland cell leak but I have had several set of Duracells leak. The last time was just a few months back when relatively new Duracells leaked in my CC-Crane Radio.

The problem I believe is in the storage conditions after manufacturing. Storage conditions at the warehouse or retailer or even the shipping truck sitting in +100F weather or sitting in your car for weeks on end in the summer.

IIRC it was Consumer Reports that said buy batteries from locations that sell tons of them, they generally have the freshest batteries. The quicker you have control over their storage conditions the better.

Because of that, I'm very wary of great deals on batteries, unless they state their freshness. But at ~$15 your not out much money if you get cheated.

ETA: I went to the web site, they said these batteries are loose unpackaged and have expiration dates in 2010 - 2013. Which means they have been sitting somewhere for 2-5 years. (I have Kirkland batteries that I dated as purchased in 2008 with an expiration date of 2014- six year storage life)

I'm still using up some Duracells I bought leading up to Y2K.

Great Batteries!

I have to admit that I will not buy Rayovac anymore. They die in a hurry.

By the way. They are maximum plus but are you sure they're Alkaline. Even in this day and age, not all batteries are.
