GUNS/RLTD Gun shows canceling

2 of the cancelled shows are at armory's. One of them even says due to training. This must be unscheduled training? This could be another dot. Not very alarming yet but if more of these shows start getting cancelled i'd start getting a little more worried.

MM,

That may or may not be a dot, but there are so many dots these days it's hard to know.

I can state that I've observed certain reloading components and parts in short supply. I have been spending months slowly increasing my reloading capability and recently decided to get a lot of small odds and ends for some of my presses and other equipment. Nothing major; a special bolt here, a handle there, a missing part and some additional molds.

I was amazed at how much of what I looked at was on back order at a very large supplier!

Gun show traffic and prices have been crazy lately and future developments may make this worse. As is the case with gold and silver, getting your firearms preps at this late date is nothing but problematic and much more expensive than it was a year or two ago.

I strongly...strongly...advise anyone who's been procrastinating to get off their butt!

Best regards
Doc

100% agree, words of wisdom not to be ignored, Doc.

Unfortunately, even most who oughta know better, many right here, won't begin to really get into gear and act until they, too, get confirmation from seeing it actually beginning to happen all around them first.

And, the majority of the general public is even more clueless and more of a huge and dangerous panicked stampede to come someday that'll totally wipe out all remaining shrinking sources of essentials. And, likely make it dangerous even to be openly shopping for some of them then.

I'm past being shrill and frustrated trying to awaken those who can't see or won't hear to get out of the way of, what I'm guessing now is just, their inevitable fate to suffer great regret needlessly for failing to of protected their families when they still could have easily and cheaply.

This was my initial thought and then "due to training" still looms as a dot to me. However, my second thought was the lack of inventory ---but I'm ruling that out since there is usually so many different people selling at a show, that a good majority of them would have had to call in and pull out before the sponsors of a show would cancel the whole thing....No there is more to this. I'm sure we'll see in the future.

Anybody have access to the sponsors of these shows in their area that can call and feel them out?

Luckily our local shows are either held at the Abba Shrine Center, or at the fair grounds. Both are usually packed.

May also have something to do with the 8 year old getting killed at a gun show a few weeks ago.

Three indicted on gun show death

A US police chief and gun club have been indicted on charges of involuntary manslaughter over the death of a young boy who shot himself at a weapons fair.

Eight-year-old Christopher Bizilj lost control of a recoiling Uzi submachine gun while he was firing at a pumpkin at the event in Massachusetts.

Police chief Edward Fleury's company had sponsored the fair at Westfield Sportman's Club in October.

Two other men have also been indicted for involuntary manslaughter.

"A Micro Uzi is made by and for the Israeli Armed Forces and is intended to meet the operational needs of Israeli Special Forces," the prosecutor said in a news release.

"It is not a hunting weapon."

Police Chief Fleury and the club also were indicted on four counts each of furnishing a machine gun to a minor.

Strict laws

Massachusetts has strict gun laws that require parental consent and the presence of a certified and licensed instructor before a child is allowed to fire a weapon.

The machine gun event drew hundreds of people to the private sporting club's 375-acre compound.

An advertisement on the club's website said children under 16 would be admitted free and the fair would include machine gun demonstrations and rentals.

"You will be accompanied to the firing line with a certified instructor to guide you. But you are in control - 'Full auto rock & roll'," the ad said.

The boy's father, a hospital director from Ashford, Connecticut, has said his son had fired handguns and rifles before, but never an automatic weapon.

A certified instructor was with the boy at the time.

The boy's father was standing 10ft behind him and reaching for the camera at the time.

State legislators are considering drafting a bill banning under-21s from firing automatic weapons, reports say.

The known uplift of automatic weapons...jeez, I would be cautious in handling one. For an adult not to be directly behind the youth...is just neglience...I don't know that manslaughter is needed in this case...as no one would have wished for the death of the youngster...but still...it was a case of carlessness.

The parents have had loss enough...the instuctors should be fired and have their privilages revoked...but manslaughter charges are a bit harsh.

Another thing to consider is how far in advance of the date was the show cancelled?

I've only been to, maybe, two gun shows. The first was in 1999, and the place was packed. All the tables were full.

The second was last weekend. Different location, different promoter, I think. But there was a whole block of tables that was empty. The room had been cut in half. Only half the tables were actually selling weapons or ammo.

The rest were a mix of junk, lots of antique junk, books, lots of books, military clothing, a cloth doll/wood signs couple, jewelry (go figure!), and off in the corner, some guy was selling Shamwow.

The guns and ammo folks were doing well.

Me? This grandma joined the NRA! and bought Christmas presents for her Army Major Ddtr and her "brat."

So maybe the shows you mentioned were closed because they couldn't sell enough tables.

reading my mind. a couple of weeks ago I ordered some RCBS minor parts while the getting was good. still need to pick up a spare set of .308 dies and some Hornady decapping pins. DON'T FORGET DECAPPING PINS!!! breaking one of those is the CLASSIC case of "a dime holding up a dollar"!!

had my son in "the big city" pick me up primers and pistol powder last week and I was kind of surprised after calling around that they were in stock and fairly priced. after reading of the mentioned "back-orders" on boards I didn't know what to expect.

I threw some coin Pat's way over a year ago and got stocked up on his wares about when the 308 surplus market started going way up.

don't wait fellas, deal with it now.

on a side note, I posted some basic reloading stuff for sale here and never had a reply. :shr: guess I was priced too high. oh well. "it don't cost nuthin' to set there" as they say.

I'd do anything to be able and go back in time and get all my dad's reloading equipment and supplies. Dang! I think one of my brother's got it though, so all is not lost. My father was fanatical about having enough supplies "just in case". (He may have been way ahead of his time, although he was right on the front lines during the race riots.)

DH and my BIL went to a local gun show about 2 weeks ago and it was packed and we are going to one tomorrow morning. I bet that will be packed too.
I'm seriously thinking that canceling those 3 gun shows is indicative of something else going on. Anyone live near one of those shows?

I don't know that manslaughter is needed in this case

But we're talking Taxachusetts here. One of the reasons I moved out of that state was the ever encroaching governmental velvet glove. Not so velvet any more, I'm afraid.
