HEALTH Patrick Swayze Angry: "I'm Not Dying"

Good for Patrick, rumors of his demise seem to be greatly exaggerated. Having the attitude he does is half the battle in kicking the cancers butt. In a war with colon cancer with mets to the liver myself, and like Swayze "being one of the lucky few that responds well to treatment" I can tell you Swayze will know when his time is up, and no one else... including his Doctors.

Keep the attitude and keep on fighting man....

Here's a previous thread discussing his pending death:

Patrick Swayze Says He's Winning Cancer Battle, Will Sit Down With Barbara Walters
Barbara Walters Exclusive: Actor's First Interview Since Announcing Illness Airs in January

Those reports that Patrick Swayze's health is failing? Consider them false. In a statement to ABC News, the "Dirty Dancing" actor, currently working on the new A&E series "The Beast," said he's waging his almost-year-long battle with pancreatic cancer and plans to win.

"I'm very proud of the work I've done on my new series 'The Beast,' and I am happy to be back home for the holidays."

In his first television interview since being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer earlier this year, Swayze and his wife Lisa Niemi will speak exclusively to Barbara Walters. The interview is scheduled to take place at his California ranch and will air in January.

In the statement, Swayze said, "It's a great feeling of accomplishment to say you're gonna do something and do it."

"The only thorn in my side being that many tabloids have been consistently reporting lies and false information about me and those close to me," he continued. "And latest, they're reporting that I'm on my last legs and saying goodbye to my tearful family!

"Pancreatic cancer is an aggressive disease, and from the moment I was diagnosed, I knew I was in for the fight of my life. It's a battle, and so far, I've been winning. I'm one of the lucky few that responds well to treatment. It's upsetting that the shoddy and reckless reporting from these publications cast a negative shadow on the positive and good fight I'm fighting. For me, my family, and those close to me, it amounts to downright emotional cruelty. That makes me angry when hope is so precious.

"As always, I appreciate all the love and support people have sent and continue to send my way," Swayze concluded. "I thank you."

Does too have a life!
Good for him. Hope is an important part of the battle. I am surprised that Barbara Walters is doing the interview. I heard her say with my own ears that she was done doing interviews because she just wasn't tough enough anymore to ask the "mean" questions.

The last studies I saw on AIDS indicated that the single GREATEST predictor of survival was a positive attitude. It has been well documented that this is also true of CA survival.

Your lips to God's ears, er.., uh, your typewriter to God's cosmic monitor screen.

< working on my attitude in CA > :D:groucho:

if he has pancreatic cancer that has spread beyond the head of his pancreas, he's a dead man walking. :(

Brutus - this is no longer axiomatic. Google search Dr Gonzalez and Pancreatic Cancer as in NIH study and success rate of Kelley/Gerson therapy including Pancreatin. There is VERY SOLID evidence that Pancreatic cancer is no longer the quick death sentence it was.

ETA- I still think he'd do well to go see Dr. Gonzalez in NYC and to start supplementing with pancreatin 10X. It's OTC.
Also looking for the exits.

Regardless of his attitude, his relative youth, and how much money he has to spend on the latest and greatest medical advances, if he has pancreatic cancer that has spread beyond the head of his pancreas, he's a dead man walking.

If he survives cancer of the pancreas he'll be the first one I know who did. He's lived longer than most with that type of cancer. Maybe they've come up with more effective treatments for it.

I hope he's not in denial about it. It must be terrible to be a celebrity fighting cancer with everyone taking your picture and writing about you. He is on TV now in a movie my husband is watching he made in 2006.

I wish him good luck.

There may be many who have survived this form of cancer with alternative therapy, but the AMA is NOT going to let you hear about it. No money in it.

My mom was CURED of diabetes. Took over a year. Doctors were absolutely amazed. Wrote about it in the medical journal. All she did was become rigid about her diet and what she ate. BUT....how often will a doctor tell you it is curable? No money in people knowing that.

Re: Diabetes

I argue with my brother-in-law (doctor of internal medicine) about that all the time. I tell him, "If you were taking medication and have modified your diet and lifestyle enough that you no longer have to take medication to control your blood sugar, you either weren't diabetic in the first place or you cured your diabetes. Which is it?" At that point he usually gets mad and storms off.

Doctors are so hidebound and conventional in their thinking.

I agree that there are some alternative medicines out there that are cures for cancer. I didn't believe it before I knew of someone who was cured.

A co-worker of my husbands had bone cancer and it had spread to his lympthnodes. He was told it was incurable. He went to a doctor from India who put him on some herbs and had him drinking some kind of green tea. He drank gallons of the stuff and in less than six months he was cured of his cancer. It completely disappeared. He had also had to change his diet a lot. He was put on a strict diet void of sugar and mostly vegetables with only lean meats and fish. He is now back to work and healthy.
