LITTLE ROCK, Ark. —

The parents of an Arkansas television anchorwoman who was beaten to death say there's forensic evidence their daughter was sexually assaulted as well, and she broke her hand fighting off her attacker.

Guy and Patti Cannady talked with the Today show's Matt Lauer on Monday, five days after suspect Curtis Lavelle Vance was arrested in the Oct. 20 beating death of KATV anchorwoman Anne Pressly. They said while the police were investigating the case as a homicide, there's a lot of evidence that there was more to it than that.

"This monster stole my daughter's innocence," Patti Cannady told NBC's "Today" show. "He took her life. He took her identity. He took our lives. Our lives have radically changed as a result of what's happened to Anne."

Patti Cannady said her daughter suffered a broken left hand in the attack. "She fought for her life, she fought her attacker," she said.

Patti Cannady went to her daughter's Little Rock home after she didn't answer a wake-up call and found the 26-year-old had been beaten beyond recognition. Every bone in her face had been broken, Cannady said.

"Her jaw pulverized so badly that the bone had come out of it," she said. "I actually thought that her throat, it possibly been cut, but that was possibly the first knockout punch. Her entire skull had numerous fractures from which she suffered a massive stroke."

Pressly died in the hospital five days later without regaining consciousness.

Guy Cannady said the family still has many questions about the murder. He said the police theory is that Pressly interrupted a random robbery, but he isn't convinced of that.

"Well, it's just unbelievable that a random robbery like this would involve the brutal slaying of Anne in this way. There just seems to be a lot more to the whole story than just a robbery gone bad," he said. "I think he could have been a stalker."

Guy Cannady said they had mixed feelings about the arrest of the suspect, whom police have said was linked to the slaying via DNA evidence.

"Obviously, good news for us, but bittersweet in the sense that now that exits from the first chapter of this, her attack, and now into the next chapter, which is the capture of the suspect and into now the trial phase."

Vance is being held without bond at the Pulaski County jail. He is also accused of raping an east Arkansas school teacher in April.

This is the typical flimsy excuse given by the police each and everytime a savage black thug murders a white. If we could go back and make a list over the last 20 years we would find virtually every brutal black on white murder or assault was just a "robbery gone bad".

So just by chance this guy just happens to break into the apartment of a local TV personality and brutally kills her. And what evidence points to robbery? The police should be challenged every time they make lame excuses like this.

This was a racially motivated HATE crime pure and simple. And the lying white-hating police know that.

Nope- my brother is great friends with the station manager and has been for years. Life is not a CSI episode - it took this long to run the DNA tests. Also, there are thoughts that other men are involved - a possible gang initation or something? There are some other rumors too (pretty juicy) but don't want to get into it here on this thread.

along the lines of dennis' earlier post in this thread....

I sat in a courtroom for 15 years, doing predominantely criminal dockets. [I'm a court reporter] I have sat 4 feet away from thousands of witnesses. I have a pretty good feel for people; whether they're telling the truth or lying, just by listening to them talk for a few minutes, and by observing their body language.

there have been some defendants that took the stand, and I didn't care what anybody had to say, but I scooted my chair back another 5 feet or so, so as not to be within arm's reach of some of these murdering monsters.

the people that do these heinous acts are EVIL. they should never be allowed out of jail. they should be executed!!

flame away at me if you will, but perhaps before you do, you should sit in some courtrooms around your cities and towns. it's free. you will not be entertained.

however, you will learn something about your neighborhood's inhabitants and the crimes that you don't know about, but it still happens, right in your own backyard, figuratively speaking.

I'm telling you, we have a defense weapon on each floor of our home. I'm seriously thinking of securing one out in the barn, too.

[and this is the main reason I left the courthouse. I just couldn't take it anymore. my nerves were just frayed to the last frazzle.

The vast majority are in serious denial due to decades of pc brainwashing as to how much hatred for whites are in the majority of the 'diverse' portion.

If you are not paying attention to the financial threads about the collapse of the US dollar, you really should.

It is a certainty that inflation followed by hyperinflation is coming, and imo a serious collapse of the US dollar - and hence the welfare system - is coming.

If that happens, mass chaos, mass anger, and if these kinds of crimes and the articles of gangs of blacks attacking whites are any indication - and I for one certainly think they are - seething hatred and violence will come to all major population centers, if not most other places with non-homogenous population centers.

A buddy of mine who is a psychologist specializing in 'human sexuality' told me years ago that castration would NOT stop a rapist, as his penis is merely the weapon of choice. New Charges in Anne Pressly's Case

Little Rock - New charges announced for the man accused of killing our friend and colleague Anne Pressly.

Curtis Lavelle Vance is officially charged with capital murder, rape, residential burglary and theft. Charging documents also list 68 potential witnesses for the prosecution against Vance including police detectives, DNA experts from the state crime lab and co-workers at KATV.

Vance will appear in Pulaski County Circuit Court Thursday, January 15, to enter a plea for these charges. Police say Vance has denied being in Little Rock when Anne was attacked October 20th.

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas - A jury sentenced a man convicted in the beating death of a popular Arkansas television personality to life in prison Thursday, sparing him the death penalty after hearing testimony about his rocky upbringing by an abusive, drug-addicted mother.

Jurors deliberated less than three hours before recommending that Curtis Lavelle Vance, 29, be sentenced to life in prison without parole for the death of Anne Pressly. The jury also handed down a life sentence for rape, 20 years for burglary and 10 years for theft.

Pressly, 26, was an anchor on KATV's "Daybreak" program and had a bit part in the President George W. Bush biopic "W." Pressly died Oct. 25, 2008, five days after a brutal assault that crushed her face and left her gasping for air.

Under state law, jurors had to select either the death penalty or a life sentence.

Vance's mother testified Thursday that she was an abusive mother, and a doctor said Vance showed signs of paranoia. Pressly's mother, Patti Cannady, told jurors Wednesday what it was like to lose an only child.

After the verdict was read, Cannady mouthed "It's OK" to prosecutor Larry Jegley, nodded, and tucked her hands over her heart. But as she left the courtroom, Cannady stopped and turned at the door. She leaned toward the defense attorneys and said, "You protected someone who should have never been protected."

Vance showed no emotion as the verdict was read.

Earlier Thursday, Vance's mother, Jacqueline Vance Burnett, told jurors she was an abusive mother who had a number of crack-fueled run-ins with the law.

Burnett said she worked as a prostitute to earn money for drugs and once snapped after a "date" fell through. She said Vance had been left in charge of a younger brother and that when she returned, the brother was smearing feces on a wall. Burnett said she threw Vance into a brick wall several times until he nearly passed out.

She also told jurors she would buy drugs with money her children received from government benefits after their fathers died and that she had spent time in prison for burglary, forgery and theft. Vance's mother said she has since gone through rehab.

During sentencing, defense attorneys presented a list of mitigating factors - including abuse Vance suffered as a child - as a reason not to impose the death penalty.

"Do I like it? No," Jegley said after the sentence was read. "But they can consider all of them. That's the law."

It would be a nightmare for any woman — for any human being.

On the morning of April 21, 2008, Kristen Edwards got up and started getting ready for school. A native of Maine, she'd been a science teacher at Lee High School in Marianna for seven years, assigned there by the Teach for America program, which places eager young educators in under-performing schools. After getting out of the shower and putting on her bathrobe, Edwards was walking through the yellow house where she lived alone at 87 E. Mississippi St. in Marianna when a stranger grabbed her from behind.

The attacker told her he had a gun; that he "knew her house," and would kill her if she looked at him. Pushed face down on a nearby couch, she was raped in her own living room. After locking Edwards onto an enclosed back porch, the man fled with her cell phone and charger, a video and $3 — the only cash she had. Edwards never saw his face.

Seven months later, the DNA taken from Edwards' robe and body during a rape examination at a local hospital was processed at the Arkansas State Crime Lab. It turned out to be the break a lot of people a hundred miles away from Marianna had been looking for: a clear match for DNA evidence found in the home of KATV television anchor Anne Pressly, who had been raped and brutally beaten in her Little Rock home on Oct. 20, 2008, dying from her injuries five days later.

Though police now had a DNA profile linked to both the Pressly case and a rape in Marianna, the sample didn't match anyone in the system. Acting on a hunch, Marianna police detectives focused on a small-time burglar from town named Curtis Lavelle Vance. His cheeks were swabbed by investigators, and within days the news came back: Vance's DNA matched the genetic evidence collected in both the Marianna case and at the Pressly crime scene. Vance was arrested in Little Rock on Nov. 26, 2008. The DNA evidence against him was a key factor in Vance's eventual conviction in the Pressly case. Spared the death penalty by only two jurors who held out against capital punishment, he now sits in prison for life without the possibility of parole.

Given how good the DNA evidence is in the Marianna rape, how much of a slam dunk it seems — 16 out of 16 genetic markers, evidence that would be the high-five moment on any "CSI"-style police procedural show worth its salt — not to mention the fact that Vance took the stand in the rape trial and testified that he had, in fact, told Little Rock detectives in a taped confession that he was in Edwards' house on the morning of the rape, it was confusing for a lot of people when on Feb. 3, a jury in Marianna decided they couldn't reach a verdict. The case was declared a mistrial.

The jury split seven to five along strictly racial lines — seven blacks and five whites. Even though it would be hard to find a genetics expert in the world who would tell you there was more than an unfathomably remote chance that the semen found inside the victim belonged to anyone other than Curtis Vance, the fact of the matter is this: All the white members of the jury were apparently swayed by that evidence, while all the black jurors were not.

While some we talked to say that the reason for that could be everything from a community-wide distrust of police to a simple lack of understanding among the potential jury pool when it comes to DNA, others — including the victim — contend that the case was decided on a factor that has nothing to do with evidence: the race of Curtis Vance.

Her age, physical description, and the details of her death is very similar in description of other women (one radio talk show host, and one tv reporter, and one real estate agent) who have either gone missing and showed up later, or were found murdered in a similar fashion.

Not saying the guy in the OP wasn't involved in some manner, i.e., noticed an open door and robbed the then deceased woman, but the age, hair color, physical similarities, job type, and details of the murder are very similar to at least a half dozen other murders that have occurred in the past 20 years. There was the reporter in Decatur, IL, a reporter in Iowa City, a real estate agent in Des Moines, at least one other person I remember hearing about sometime around 1993 near Indianapolis, IN. etc., and now Arkansas.

I have a friend whose son is a cop, He said my son went from being a very non racist person to big time anti black within less than two years on the force.

I suspect there was someone else involved, that person being a serial killer. This guy may have been along for the ride for other reasons (burglary) or he gets off on dead people.
