ALERT We should be prepared for a nuclear war at any second.

Don't become caught up like a deer in a set of headlights.

Keep focused on whats happening but don't sit around with your mouth open. Most of us have been calling these events for years, and now it is close, again. Even closer than any time before. Close enough to happen at any second. A nuke strike by either side. India or Pakistan.

From there, no telling what will happen. As it is, no one knows what to expect but what we do know is how to prep. Go over your stuff, make some trips to the store if need be, keep small bills on hand, make sure you have potassium iodate, masks, food, filters, meds, and a bug out plan. Make sure your radiation meters check ok.

Hate being the deliverer of such gloom, but I hate worse to see people caught unexpectedly.

I agree we should be ready. But instead of being at DefCon 1 "right now", perhaps go to DefCon 1 for 1 hour as a prep exercise.

1. What am I going to do?
2. Where am I going?
3. <fill in your own>

Then go back to your regular status until the bombs hit.

Once the bombs are dropped go to DefCon 1 and do your thing.

Then realize that once you are secure, drop down to DefCon 3 again. Being on heightened alert for extended period of time can be mentally draining, and physically harmful if for too long of a period. Kick back and relax, have some comfort food and expect a wait.

Just my thoughts.

I'm not overly concerned as long as it stays over there. We've nuked Nevada many more times than all of the nukes India and Pakistan have put together.

Wait a minute, wait a minute, hold that war. I gotta poop first!

For any new to nuke prepping, read the 'Good News' article and 'What to do if...' guide linked below in my sig line for starters. Then point friends, neighbors and relatives to them.

A link to online version of Nuclear War Survival Skills book is also there in the guide and hard copy can be acquired here...

Living in Nevada, I can tell you many of us wonder what's in the air when those big wind and dust storms hit. It only takes one microscopic particle of plutonium in your lungs for a guaranteed case of lung cancer. The potassium iodate is only to protect the thyroid gland, I believe, won't help if you breathe or drink something in that is not an iodine-type material. Strontium collects in bones, and we all have that in our systems from drinking milk from cows that grazed on grass in fields where far downwind of Nevada the strontium fell from the fallout clouds.

Also, people in homes here built during the above-ground testing times or homes built before are warned to NOT go into areas like attics where dust can collect and sit undisturbed for decades, as that dust may contain radioactive particles.

As for me, if there's nuclear war, I want to be directly under Ground Zero. I won't even see the flash before being reduced to my constituent atoms. A nuke war may be one thing on the other side of the planet, but if one comes here, I don't want to be a survivor.

And, all that dust that blew toward Utah all those years, that whole path, the town of St. George had a lot of illness as a consequence.

After 8 years of chasing this stuff at the test site I seem to be ok. So far all I have lost is my bladder and prostate., Other than that I feel fine.;)

Underground blasts didn't alway do what they were suppose to do. A very busy day especially for St George Utah.

I see Condoleeza Rice has been dispatched to India, to show that US stands with India in combatting terror...would they send her if they thought it would go nuclear?

Nukes won't fall like rain, but stuff can happen. Stocks crash, banks close, food supplies stop, terror attacks, riots, marshal law, who knows.

For a $200 investment anyone can survive a nuclear war aftermath.

$60 for Potassium Iodate (protect the thyroid gland)
$40 - $100 for a MSA Advantage NBC Mask (prevent the inhaling of charged particles)
$varies - (see shane) Radiation Meters

As a water filter, place two pails, one over the other. Drill holes in the bottom of the top bucket. The top pail fill with a pillow case, then fill with sandy mix soil. Place another cloth over the top of the sand. Pour the water through letting it all collect in the bottom pail. Boil, filter again if you have a fine particle filter, like a British Berksfield, run the boiled water through that.

See shanes site for tons of great info. Also, from what I remember google Japan nuclear aftermath. There was a lot I learned there too.

Washington doesn't know what others will do, they don't even know what they are doing. Only God knows. All I'm trying to do at this stage is to be one step ahead of banks closing down. One step ahead of getting another load of supplies, etc, before everything closes down. World economy is hanging on by a thread. It wont take much for the rest of the bubble to fall.

I should move closer to the strip. Ground Zero works for me.

Naaa.. move out here to Pahrump.. we are far enough away from Vegas to be somewhat safe. Sure Nellis is nearby but so is my home made fallout shelter :)

And guess where I grew up. We got our milk from the cow down the street. Seem to be OK so far.

I

am not convinced that nuclear war is imminent. Things are certainly going to fall apart, but massive military destruction in this country?

Radar isn't detecting that anytime soon.

I don't know about massive, but even one nuke is going to change how America thinks. Hopefully, it's for the better.

I too don't believe there is any immediate threat for a nuke here, at least right now, but if one nukes goes off anywhere on the planet, stocks will crash, businesses will bankrupt, banks will close, food shortages will begin.

There isn't enough gear to monitor all of Earths surroundings for early detection. Also I think that after it makes entry, they are moving tens of thousands of miles an hour. 35,000mph I think? I don't know if radar get pickup anything moving that fast.

How fast does a nuke go?

well I think that if it was a nuke there may be no electricity in the area from the EMP they deliver. I don't remember if Hydrogen bombs make EMP or not.
