This may be a profoundly stupid ? about grain.

Is it feasable to grind wheat berries into flour using a mortar and pestle...let's say for a cup or two of flour at a time? TIA. I'm new to all of this grain stuff. :)

Yeah, you can but it would take you a long time. You can still get a cheap hand grind mill from say Lehman's that would cost you less than $50. I think it's called a corona mill or perhaps look on ebay. Doesn't grind super fine but if I need bread flour I send it through twice.

As an emergency mill you can take a few short sticks of pipe, wrap them together and then use the ends of the pipe in a bundle in a bucket to grind out a cup of flour at a time but it's the hard way to do it.

Thanks so much you guys! I plan on getting a mill as funds allow and I appreciate all the info! The scripture, "My people perish for lack of knowledge" is soooo true. I want all the knowledge that my noodle can be wrapped around. Especially when most of family are DGI's.
