ECON An interesting observation at the bank today

A branch of our bank is located in a Kroger store. I went in this afternoon and had to wait in line. There were three tellers waiting on the customers. An elderly gentlemen presented a personal check and received his cash. A few minutes later I saw him approach an elderly lady in line ( I assume it was his wife ) and gave her the envelope with the cash. In a few minutes it was her turn and she did the same thing. She presented the personal check and received cash. From where I was standing the checks looked the same.

There may not have been anything to it, but it just seemed odd to me.
For what it's worth. I decided to share it.

Old enough to remember bank holidays and not leaving their money in the bank.

I live in a small rural town. Have had many conversations with my bank manager regarding the money issue. Two weeks ago when we in the bank, he was telling us that some people have been removing all their money. He said they are very upset, but that the bank is trying to keep things quiet. He told me to take what I needed, but keep it quiet.

Yea, so I cash a check at the bank and the teller asks, "would you like large or small bills"? Hmmmmmmm very suspicious! I mean, like, do they not know what they should give? Hmmmm confusion at the bank? So I say large bills and then they give them to me in an envelope! WHY ARE THEY HIDING THE MONEY IN AN ENVELOPE? hmmmm, very suspicious.

When I try to leave they say, "have a nice day"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What were they REALLY trying to say?

When I get to the parking lot and try to open the door to my car I heard a crow making a lot of noise.

I sped home and hid under the bed for the rest of the day!

Very small town in Louisiana,
I went to the bank on Fri around 10am to deposit some checks recieved in my business.
I also was cashing a check for $750. I asked for large bills.
The teller said they were out of large bills. I played dumb and said
"So you'll forgot to order enough for payday?"
She said " No we ordered extra but almost everyone that she had helped was taking all their money out of the bank because they were scared.
The bank had only been open 90 min. and they were out of large bills
I think there is a sillent run in progress.

Jim - it's not enough to just SEE the dots, you have to connect them. If you want to play conspiracy-theory with the big boys, you have to offer some conspiracies. It's like an ante in cards.

Art Linkletter used to say that when he interviewed kids the best way to get information was to ask them what their parents told them NOT to say. Sounds like the right way to ask the tellers, too!

Is this sarcasm? This is sarcasm right? I think this is sarcasm. ;)

That being said, there is definitely a different "vibe" at the bank lately. That could just be because everyone is concerned, and bank personnel have extra special reason to be worried about their future.

That being said, we took out a paycheck's worth from the savings, cause really, what could it hurt? :)

The last several week days have been going to the bank and taking out quite
abit of my money. Now on friday, the teller is one that knows me and my
simple lifestyle and we got talking. I asked her if she knew others doing the
same thing here in little Jackson Hole, Wy. And the answer was Yes, there
were others here who are seemingly doing the same thing. But interesting
here is how in the local news not a word of economic troubles. One would
not know this was happening if one looked at all the construction happening
around the area. Also locally, the help wanted ads for this winter are wayyy
wayyy down with just a page and a half of help wanted ads. This is when
there are usually pages and pages of help wanted ads locally. And saw my
old boss who I have worked for in the past some winters .... she had a very
poor summer and is very worried as concerning this winter. And she with her
store are suffering economically bigtime!

Set Apart
My son and I asked 4 different tellers at our bank on different days how things were going. They all said the same thing, like it was scripted and rehearsed and they were told to say it with a smile.

"Everything is fine here, our bank is very sound and it's business as usual."

But lines of people getting cash seems to betray their words.

Went to our local bank and pulled out a bit of cash in large bills and had no problems. The teller was calm as usual. Seems like some of this stuff is regional with all areas of the country not catching on yet.
