String of Deadly Metrolink Accidents in California, Corona and Chatsworth

September 12, 2008 (by Otto Smyth)

According to reports by Corona Metrolink accident lawyers, after the 4:20 p.m. double train crash that turned deadly for an unknown amount of passengers and countless injuries numbering as high as possibly 40 or more there was a second Metrorail crash.

This Corona Metrolink crash occurred at approximately 5:10 p.m. in the Corona area in the vicinity of the 200 block of Sheridan Street. The Metrolink train equipped to carry 600 passengers was in route to Riverside at the time of the crash.

According to reports from Lt. Brent Coleman of the Corona Police Department a vehicle was traveling south on Sheridan Street when it apparently drove around the lowered railroad crossing arms and drove onto the tracks.

He went on to state that the driver a woman approximately 40 years of age appeared to have been trying to beat the train at the time of the crash and it was impossible for the engineer to see the vehicle.

The woman was the only occupant in the vehicle and died at the scene of the accident, the train was seven cars and was about 300 years ( I'm quite certain they meant to write 'yards') from its next scheduled stop when the crash occurred.

LT. Coleman stated that vehicles should not try to beat trains because they will not win, he also said that one passenger from the Metrolink train was transported to the hospital for anxiety and there were no other injuries. This is a big problem in Northern California, that and kids getting killed on the tracks.

Don't know what it is about some people who think they can beat a train.

Do they not understand that a train (or automobile) going 60mph will cover a distance of quarter mile in 15 seconds, a block in 6 or 7 seconds?

I guess they look at a train a block away and don't realize they've got 7 seconds to impact, a hi-speed train going 90 mph may give them only 4 seconds till death.
