canning question-All-American 912

Always on the lookout for preps, one of the things I need is a pressure cooker. I was at a garage sale yesterday and found an "All-Ameriacan 912 1/2" selling for $15. I have read here that this is the one to get and see them on the net selling for over $200 new. I couldn't resist the chance and bought it. It was sold as a "fish fryer" and belonged to "Granny". It looks fine except for a little corrosion inside from having not been used in a while and the wire rack is rusted. There are no dents, dings, cracks or anything. The lid twists and locks on and all the little lugs work fine. The gauge looks fine and the pop up /release valve looks good. (sorry, I dont know a lot about pressure cookers) Is there any way to check this thing or anything to look for or a way to test it? Is a garage sale pressure cooker a safe way to go? I either found my best garage sale find ever or have a new flower pot.

Get hold of your county extention agent and they can either check it for you or tell you where to get it checked.

By the way a good find.

What a deal! You got one of the best canners around, for only $15! :applaud:

And yes, your county extension office can check it for you. If you don't know a lot about canning, tell the extension agent, and he / she will probably give you a lot of booklets on home canning.
