We have a lot of members who live in New Hampshire. Prayers for the safety going up. This is about 3 hours south of us here in Maine. Bad storms going thru the whole area today. I have at least 6 advisories in my inbox on storm cells moving around.
A local river which usually runs around a foot or so deep this time of year is already at 7 ft and expected to top at 9 ft later tonight. Flood stage is 7ft.
The river is just south of us but in Lone Wolf and IMPAT's backyard almost. Prayers for all effected by this continued heavy rain which has been ongoing daily for weeks now. We are saturated up here.

Please someone turn off the rain machine. Enough already! :shkr:

One Dead After Severe Storm In Epsom; State Of Emergency Declared

http://www.wcsh6.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=90694&catid=2

EPSOM, N.H. (NEWS CENTER) -- Emergency crews are trying to account for people staying on Northwood Lake in Epsom, N.H. after a powerful storm knocked down trees and power lines. It appears a tornado hit the area.
Authorities have confirmed that one person was killed when the storm leveled a house. At least two other people were injured, according to Concord Police Chief Robert Barry.
There are many vacation homes in the area, which makes it hard for emergency crews to account for everyone.Police and firefighters are going door to door. Gov. John Lynch toured the area by and and foot, and says the storm damaged at least 100 homes, and destroyed at least a half dozen. Officials are investigating reports of tornadoes and funnel clouds from Epsom and Deerfield in the central part of the state, through Wolfeboro in the north and New Durham in the east.
Gov. John Lynch has declared a state of emergency and has activated the National Guard to assist.

We've been having torrential rains over here in Vermont, too - over the past several days. But, fortunately, no tornados.

Severe storms rip through NH; Houses, trees down

Associated Press - July 24, 2008 2:55 PM ET

EPSOM, N.H. (AP) - Emergency crews have been cutting their way through downed trees to get to homes damaged and destroyed by severe thunderstorms and possible tornadoes in central and eastern New Hampshire.

Epsom appears to have been hit the hardest, with the fire chief saying 50-100 homes were damaged, including one that was reduced to rubble.

Governor John Lynch declared a state emergency for five counties and called out the National Guard.

There were early reports of people trapped in homes and in cars. By mid-afternoon, Concord Hospital reported one patient with unspecified injuries. Crews were searching damaged homes for other possible casualties.

Officials are investigating reported sightings of tornadoes and funnel clouds from Epsom and Deerfield in the central part of the state, through Wolfeboro in the north and New Durham in the east.

Power is out in a wide area.

Rescue and chainsaw crews, paramedics and fire crews with all-terrain-vehicles were converging on the damaged area from around the state. A Red Cross team was responding from Maine.

Mom of 2 beautiful girls
Please pray.
A 57 year old woman was killed in this storm, while a 3 month old and her husband were also rushed to a local hospital, with injuries. Please pray they will recover both physically and emotionally.

The storms here have been horrible. It seems like it's been non stop for almost 2 weeks now (although in reality there have been a couple of days of sun thrown in).
Looking at the radar, there is nasty stuff building in NY state that is quickly headed our way again. I'm pretty sure we'll be ok but I worry about some of the bigger trees that are near our home.
I know it's nothing compared to the hurricane in TX or the war in Iraq, but for the little state of NH, it's a world of hurt for a lot of people.

I hear ya on the torrential rain! My husband and I went out today when I got home from town and put a couple sides off a large snowmobile crate (4x8ft) over our little raised garden.....at least it is being spared the 4 inches of rain we are supposed to get. It's been raining for around 5 hours now. It rained all night last night. Rained the day before that and the day before that!

When I was in town I could see across the mts as it higher up there and no trees to block my view......the clouds hung heavy and low, dark nasty things. You could see the rain in them. The town was full of tourists looking for something to do on yet another rainy day. Griping about not being able to go fishing or ride their 4 wheelers, ect.

I would love a couple dry days. Even our clothes in our closets feel wet the humidity is so high. It's been coolish in the high 60's low 70's and rain, rain, rain..

I hope this trend stops before winter or we will be needing the front end loaders again to take the snow out of the road again this winter. Last winter it snowed almost daily. We got around 150 inches of snow. Can't wait for this winter......../sarcasm dripping from that/

Here is a link to local coverage of the damage

http://www.wmur.com/weather/16976302/detail.html

Word I am getting around here is that it was a tornado that ripped through the area

rt 107 is closed until tomorrow because of fallen trees, shelters have been opened for folks who cannot get to their homes, phone lines and power are out

Hard to believe this is only 20 miles from me

prayers to all impacted by this

Wow, that sounds really bad. I hope our other tb2k members from NH are ok. I know there are a few from that area and also some previous members. I hope they check in on this thread to let us know they are ok. It was NOT just Epsom, it stretched for 25 miles in damage.

Amazed

Does too have a life!
We were under tornado watch this afternoon. Luckily all we got was heavy, heavy rain. It has been thundering out for about 24 hours now with some real lightening shows, especially last night. Oh yeah and we're under flood watch. So far all is well here.

Stay safe everyone and get working on that ark.

Pretty quiet here now. This morning their were torential downpours, could hardly see driving to the dentist :shk:. Been fairly quiet most of the afternoon with raid and thunder and lightening off and on.

Last night's thunderstorm was pretty bad. Lost power, so I took out the battery operated tv, the battery operated fan and the battery operated light and I survived just fine:lkick:

Hubby slept through it and got a kick out of all my equipment when he woke up. :lkick:

Devil's Advocate
The way I see it is, cold and wet, or hot and dry.

I'll take the water, even if it meant driving through torrential rain every damn day this week till tonight ...

Water, food ... and I'll figure out the heat come winter times.

Very happy to see our New Hampshirites checking in. You too nanna, even tho you live in NY.......grin. I think upstate NY is getting some good ones also but this batch coming up the coast just won't let up.

I got soaked several times tonight taking the pup out to potty. You can't let an 8 month old out by herself. She loves the water and would be rolling in it....it took two towels to get her dry as it is, lol.

Looking at the radar above we have MORE really heavy stuff coming. But neener, neener, my little garden is finally safe from being washed out! Yea!!!!

Stay safe people. Watch out for flooding. It's going to be nasty tonight with all this training of this storm coming up from south of us...

Prayers for those affected by that horrible storm. We're ok here in our little corner of NH. My garden isn't fairing so well tho', especially the poor tomatoes. Early blight is getting them. It was raining so hard today, it looked like we were in the tropics. And the humidity, yuck! Oh well, I'm going to try and not complain too loudly, winter will be here soon enough.

Blessings
