BRKG Emergency Landing, New Orleans; 7 Congressmen aboard

Just heard on CNN. They didn't have many details. Said the plane veered sharply, and oxygen masks deployed, but plane was believed to have landed safely. One other interesting tidbit; Wolf Blitzer said that Ron Paul was one of the congressmen on board. Nothing further at this time.

KHOU.com staff report

HOUSTON -- A Continental Airlines flight carrying seven members of Congress from Houston to Washington was forced to make an emergency landing after it lost cabin pressure Tuesday afternoon.

Flight 458 was bound for Reagan National Airport, but was diverted and landed safely in New Orleans, a spokeswoman for U.S. Rep. Ted Poe told 11 News.

Poe and fellow Congressmen Nick Lampson, Ron Paul, John Carter, Ciro Rodriguez, Solomon Ortiz and Henry Cuellar were aboard the flight, said Poe's press secretary DeeAnn Thigpen. There were 118 people aboard the plane, said Continental spokeswoman Julie King.

No one was hurt, the airline confirmed.

Continental Airlines said the problem was caused by a sudden loss in cabin pressure.

Found the names.

good find, trek!

wow. glad they landed safely. coincidence or sabotage?

i mean, how often do planes lose cabin pressure?

ETA: RON PAUL WAS ON BOARD. How did I miss that the first read?

Can you add to the thread title that Ron Paul was on board?

Certainly wouldn't be the first time planeloads of people are sacrificed to get rid of one!

I've done a lot of flying in my life. I've worked in several organizations where many - MANY - of us have flown frequently.

Other than 911 (I lost one of my co-workers on flight 11), I have never known anyone to experience a loss of cabin pressure.

I expect that this was a "notice" to Dr. Paul.

We must all remember just how courageous this man is - to take on the Federal Reserve makes his assassination all the more likely.

I had that problem on a flight 2 months ago. The plane took off and 15 minutes after take off we return ed due to the caboin not pressurizing.

(CNN) -- A plane carrying Texas Rep. Ron Paul and six other members of Congress was forced to make an emergency landing Tuesday due to mechanical issues, the Federal Aviation Administration said
The pilot of Continental Airlines Flight 458, a Boeing 737 en route to Washington from Houston, Texas, made a rapid descent into New Orleans, Louisiana, after the pilot reported pressurization problems, the FAA said.

The plane landed safely in New Orleans with no injuries, it said.

Reps. Ted Poe, Nick Lampson, Henry Cuellar, Solomon P. Ortiz, John Carter, and Ciro Rodriguez were among those aboard the flight, Lampson's office said.

Paul, Poe and Carter are Republicans; Lampson, Cuellar, Ortiz and Rodriguez are Democrats. All represent Texas districts.

Flight carrying members of Congress makes emergency landing

There were 118 people total aboard the plane, Continental spokeswoman Julie King said.

No one was hurt, the airline confirmed.
Continental Airlines said the problem was caused by a sudden loss in cabin pressure.

Poe told 11 News the flight was about an hour late leaving Houston because of mechanical difficulties with an engine. He said things went downhill from there not long after taking off from Bush Intercontinental Airport.

"Suddenly, we started to descend more rapidly than normal and the oxygen masks came out," Poe said.
The pilots told everyone to fasten their seatbelts.

"There wasn't any talk because a lot of people had their oxygen masks on," according to Poe. "Everyone seemed to be quite calm."
The flight landed about 20 minutes after the scare began.

"You're thinking of everything, of course. You're thinking of all the possibilities," Poe told 11 News. "But the pilots did a great job of getting us down. And when we got down we saw all the fire trucks on the runway, just like in the movies."

For Poe and the others, it was an unforgettable experience.
"It was exciting to say the least," Poe said. "Glad to see that landing gear come down."

The cause of the loss of cabin pressure will be investigated.

No conspiracy here folks. It happens sometimes. A valve dumps and pressure is lost. The plane went into a steep descent to get down to a more breathable atmosphere which is SOP. For something like this an inflight emergency is declared but the aircraft is in no danger of crashing. Just a lot of noise and commotion.

If they wanted to kill Paul there are a lot of other ways and more sure ways to do it. Something similar happened to Payne Stewart's small jet a few years ago if you remember but in that case no one was wearing a mask to begin with and they were not able to react in time. With an airliner the flight crew has masks right next to them and they practice that stuff a little more often in simulators.

Are the financially strapped airlines neglecting necessary maintenance, that might have prevented this? Are there other mechanical aspects that are not being monitored as closely in these times of financial turmoil?

You know, RP would probably be more of a threat to TPTB if people thought he was murdered than he is alive. Killing him would be kind of silly.

If Ron Paul is murdered, there will be as much debate about his death as there was/is about the WTC.

Civil war? Nope. People will be too busy debating... murder vs. accident.

"Emergency Landing, New Orleans; 7 Congressmen aboard"

My very first thought when I read that was "Escape from New York."

What was interesting to me is that RP was the most well-known prominent Congressman on that plane and he was hardly mentioned.

Oh, please.

But, if we are to indulge this silly notion for a moment...how do you know it wasn't a "notice" to Nick Lampson or Henry Cuellar? Or Ted Poe, for that matter?

This too shall pass.
One of my BIL's used to be an aircraft mechanic. He finally quit, because he was being asked to sign off on work he hadn't even inspected, let alone done himself. Maybe the work had been done, and maybe it hadn't. He was working on airline jets. Multiply that by the thousands of aircraft mechanics out there, and it ought to make anyone nervous about flying.

. . . or a notice to Oilpatch Hand?

Dude...that doesn't make any sense. I wasn't on the plane. After all...I'm supposedly a "shill" for TPTB, and a willing pawn in their quest for world domination. If TPTB wanted to send a "notice" to me, they'd text a coded message to my wrist-radio, with instructions to decipher using my decoder ring.

Awwww...the pay is terrible. The benefits stink. And your "badge" is a bar code tattooed on your forehead.

I don't know why I'm still in this job. I really should find something else. Maybe STASI is still hiring...:lkick:

Seems to me if you knew you were going to be flying seven congresscritters around that you'd make certain all systems were up to snuff, and more. If you're the company flying them around ya wanna make sure they're ultra-safe, right?

That they lost cabin pressure is a little more than an "Oops!"

That the MSM is still almost surpressing coverage involving Dr. Paul shows how feared of him they are.

Accident? Really??

It was a regularly scheduled commercial air flight returning to Washington with not only the congressmen but a whole plane load of other passengers. It wasn't a private jet that you might of been able to sabotage in a hanger somewhere. Regular flight that had just flown into the arriving airport and loaded up again to get back to Reagan. There certainly are conspiracies and then there are things like this that are not worthy of putting on your tin foil hat. If "they" wanted Paul dead they wouldn't go to the trouble of crafting a plan that would not result in his death. If they wanted him dead he would be dead.
