My daughter got swimmers ear a few days ago and alcohol/vinegar isn't working. We're going to the doctor in the morning but was hoping to find something to help with the pain tonight. Also, would like to be able to treat it at home next time it happens.

Thanks,

My doc says hydrogen peroxide and alcohol. Hope it helps, I know it's painful.
The hydrogen peroxide kills the germs? and alcohol helps dry the water.

If you can get a script for 800mg ibuprofen, keep it on hand, When I had swimmers ear, it was the only thing that muted the pain enough to allow me to sleep.
Hope your daughter got to sleep last night.

Go to health food store and buy what they call candles...You stick end in the ear, light and bad stuff in the ear acculates in the candle. I've not had it done but a friend did it and I watched. It was amazing the junk that was pulled out and he said he did it for allergies and swimming ear water.

went to the doctor

We got some antibiotic ear drops for her. The doctor said alcohol and vinegar are only a preventative. It just helps get the excess water out of the ear so the bacteria won't grow. Once you get swimmers ear you need the antobiotic drops. That's according to the doctor. So $80 later, we have drops that should be able to treat this case and maybe another one later. I would have tried colloidal silver if we were home but by the time we got back in town, it has been 3 days and I didn't want to experiment on her since it had already been so long. It seems like something topical would work like garlic oil, or tea tree oil, or maybe oil of oregano. Thanks for the help.

I had this when I was very young and I lived on the water. Some how ear wax had built deep inside my ear and got very hard, trapping sea water behind it, WOW did that hurt:bwl:, this went on for weeks and nothing the doctors gave me did any good, so my parents took me to one of oldest doctors around ( Born in the late 1880's ) he took a look inside my ear and said those Idiot's wait till I have a word with them your sons ear has a wax build-up in it. So he flushed with some what hot soapy water with what looked like big stainless steel syringe well after ten try's the wax came out, Boy did that ever feel so good when that happened.:D

xtreme_right,

I just can't quit remember. But I think when my child had swimmers ear the Doc said to use over the counter polysporin eye and ear drops for it.
