An army sergeant's wife and a civilian friend were arrested early Sunday after an apparently methamphetamine fire at the woman's home on Redstone Arsenal.
Cortney Rae Wilson, 28, and Dennis Raymond Griffith, 30, were charged with conspiracy to manufacture, distribute, and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine, according to the U.S. Attorney Alice Martin.
Wilson's husband, Sgt. Arin Stephen Wilson, is currently deployed in Korea.
According to the complaint filed in district court, Redstone Arsenal firefighters responded to a fire at 541 Willow Circle on the base at 4 a.m. Sunday.
When they arrived, they found the apparent source of the fire - a burnt frying pan with a broken Mason jar in it, the complaint said.
Noell Bishop, a DEA agent who wrote the affidavit, said investigators found cans of camping fuel, maratic acid, electric grinders, hoses, funnels and coffee filters in the home and Wilson's tan Nissan Sentra.
Griffith and Wilson, along with her 8-month-old and 6-year-old children, were sent to temporary quarters on the arsenal immediately following the fire. The pair was later booked in the Morgan County jail.
They are scheduled to appear in Birmingham today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert R. Armstrong for an initial appearance hearing, according to a statement from the U.S. attorney's office.
U.S. Attorney Martin recommended Wilson and Griffith be held without bond. A detention hearing is expected later this week, and a federal grand jury will hear the case later this month.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAAY) - The wife of a deployed soldier and another person were arrested on federal charges Monday after firefighters found a meth lab inside her home on Redstone Arsenal, investigators said.
Cortney Rae Wilson, 28, and Dennis Raymond Griffith, 30, were charged with Conspiracy to Manufacture, Distribute, and Possess with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine.
According to the warrant filed against the two, firefighters on Redstone Arsenal responded to a kitchen fire early Sunday morning at 541C Willow Circle where Wilson lived with her two children.
Later that day, agents from the Army's Criminal Investigation Command and the Drug Enforcement Administration began an investigation that found Griffith and Wilson were manufacturing meth inside the residence at the time of the fire, officials said.
According to the complaint, numerous items used in the manufacture of meth were discovered in the apartment, the carport, and in Wilson's automobile.
Both suspects were taken to Birmingham on Monday for an initial appearance in federal court. The United States Attorney's Office moved that the defendants be held without bond, and a detention hearing is expected to be scheduled later this week. The defendants' case is expected to be presented to a federal grand jury later this month.
"Redstone Arsenal is a somewhat unique installation in that our federal courts have exclusive jurisdiction over civilians who commit offenses on the base," said U.S. Attorney Alice H. Martin. "The clandestine manufacturing of methamphetamine is an extremely dangerous activity, and I am glad that the collaborative efforts of the DEA and agents from the Army were able to quickly investigate the case and remove these two individuals from the base."
If convicted, Wilson and Griffith could face jail terms of up to 20 years and fines of more than $1 million apiece.
