Boy Hurt in Fire He Allegedly Started to Punish Grandma
Tuesday , July 08, 2008

NEW YORK —

A 5-year-old boy is in critical condition with severe burns after he allegedly started a fire in his grandmother's Brooklyn apartment to punish her.

Jay Morales was angry about being reprimanded and planned to burn his grandmother's apartment down in revenge, police told the New York Post and MyFOX New York.

The blaze at Nancy Herrera's apartment in the three-story building on Knickerbocker Avenue broke out about 3 p.m. Monday, the Fire Department of New York said.

Police said the boy called 911 on Sunday night claiming his grandmother had died, according to the Post. But firefighters arrived to find her unharmed. Herrera tried to save her grandson, but he was engulfed in flames, so she escaped.

The next day, Jay allegedly told friends he planned to burn the house down after Herrera wouldn't let him go out and play.

The blaze appears to have started when the curtains were set on fire with a cigarette lighter, the Post reported, but the FDNY said the cause is under investigation.

Jay is being treated at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, according to MyFOXNY.com.

Saved, to glorify God.
People were talking about whether a small child can be host to a demon and most generally thought not. I was reading a psychiatrist's website talking about very young very violent children and they were discussing children less than TWO YEARS OLD whom their OWN PARENTS FEARED because the children on numerous occassions had tried with knives, fire, what the kids thought would poison and otherwise(pushing, dropping) TO KILL THE PARENTS(or siblings)!! These were trained professionals attesting to the kids violent behavior, but of course they attributed the behavior to any number of theories and all cited giving the kids prozac type drugs to control them.

Following what Dennis said about these kids getting younger and younger, just where do these kids get these ideas? Cartoons? TV? Those violent computer games? I never had kids so have not kept up with the stuff they are exposed to... although all you have to do is watch the nightly news for any ideas.

I'd like to know how a 5-year old was capable of lighting a lighter. I wouldn't imagine a child of that age has the fine motor skills or strength in his fingers needed to do that.

That's one reason Catholics baptize infants. Demonic possesion is not as easy with the Holy Ghost indwelling a child.

Everyone wants to point fingers at some specific cause, but in reality it's an even blend of heredity and environment that determines someone's behavior under normal conditions.

Under abnormal conditions, both heredity and environment become irrelevant except where hereditary predispositions and/or environmental exposures are involved as root causes. "Abnormal" conditions in this context all revolve around neurochemical imbalances that in adults are precursors to or effects of mental illness. The fact that children are exhibiting pathologies so young is scary in and of itself, and nobody's quite sure what's causing some kids to become psychopaths at such strangely young ages. (I personally suspect it's a case of everything coming together in a perfect storm, and not any one cause.)

The worst part of all is the fact that we're talking about kids that could easily become serial or spree killers before their ages reach double digits, and some of these kids will be so dangerous that they'll have to be killed.

The article kind of confused me. Is it just me or is the story worded/organized out of order?

"Police said the boy called 911 on Sunday night claiming his grandmother had died, according to the Post. But firefighters arrived to find her unharmed. Herrera tried to save her grandson, but he was engulfed in flames, so she escaped.
The next day, Jay allegedly told friends he planned to burn the house down after Herrera wouldn't let him go out and play."

Five years old - he hasn't even started Kindergarten yet! What in the world!?

Weird how every story seems to remind me of a comedian or a song or a movie today... This one = Oingo Boingo's "Only a Lad"

I questioned that, too. If he was engulfed in flames, exactly how was he talking to his friends the very next day? The article says he is being treated at the hospital, not that he was treated and released. I doubt his friends were even allowed to see him one day after being "engulfed in flames".

Why does everything have to be a malfunction in the brain. I watched a girl kick my daughter in the stomach. The father saw and did nothing...no correction! No explaining why you don't do certain things....nothing! If a child is free to just walk up and hit someone with out reprimand...and then this child has a kid of her own...do you think the child would be basing his/her decisions by morals...or how much she/him can get away with? After two or three generations do you think they would have any trouble killing. My son told me of a girl that's the same age as him up their at the school that he plays baseball for, how she was messing with the truck! My son told her to stop missing with his daddy's truck! She said she could do what ever she wanted...will if a kid has been raised with the attitude they can do what they want and they are not reprimanded for their actions and the violence on t.v, video games, etc...do you think there would be behavior problems in a generation or two?? I watch a mother give in to a six year old girl in the fabric store because she wanted to hold it. She felt that she should be able to no matter what her mother said and she preceded to curse her and demand that her mother give her the fabric. Rather than putting the fabric back and explaining how they were not getting it because of the child's behavior and making her apologize for her behavior the mother instead gave into the child and gave her the material and then paid for it and gave it right back to the child. Now when this child, who has no clue on right and wrong behavior, has a child does one think that this child will be governed by morals ...now picture another generation or two down the road...the chances for a serial killer are now much higher. In my own family, My SIL has a son that she allowed to go rampant. Never got reprimanded....allowed the other two children to take the blame for this one boy and the boy had no responsibility around the house and did not have to adhere to any rules what so ever...the child could curse, beat, any one he wanted to cuz his siblings would take the fall...the parents would make sure of it. He could lie, cheat and steal, and the siblings would again take the blame for it. And if his room wasn't clean..the sister took the blame for that...again the parents made sure of this! A psychiatrist compared the child to Jeffery Dommer....um hello? Who is to blame...the child....the t.v. the computer games, or the parents! Now think! If this child was to have children of his own...do you think they would be governed by morals? Thats what we are currently now witnessing...the deterioration of morals that this country was founded on!

The other problems are the drugs that parents are blindly allowing dr.s to push on the kids these days instead of treating the problem, they treat the symptoms and with this comes serious side affects but organizations like the pharmaceutical companies don't care because they are making a killing off these debilitating drugs!

I saw that too but I took as meaning after the grandmother reprimanded the child, the child told his friends the next day that he was gonna burn his grandmother up! How ever I could be reading more into this than that and this could be a major malfunction in the truth or report!:shr:

I have seen several children over the course of my life who were pure evil and a couple were under 2. I think some are born that way and there is nothing one can do to change it. Some things we don't want to admit to and this is one of them.

Yet Scripture states it is possible.

Matthew 17:14-18, we find that a young boy is possessed by a demon and is convulsed before our Lord’s very eyes. The father of the child pleads with the Lord to heal his son, who cannot express his faith or lack of faith in such a state. Although the child cannot speak for himself and affirm his faith in Christ in any way visible to man, the Lord heals the child. So, if such a thing is possible with demonic possession, why should Baptism be any different?
