BRUCE BEACH: New from Iran

I sent out the poll results
in a separate email -
so that they wouldn't get lost
amid other subjects.

After many days of coordinating pollsters -
more days of data entry -
and a day of using the analytical tools -
I was glad to see it as
a task completed.

I could actually do a lot more calculations
from the spread sheet
now that all the information is entered and saved.
Such as -
male attitudes versus female -
or the differences in regards to education.

With even more effort -
there could be studied differences
of geographic attitudes.
The more refined the filters -
the smaller the samples would become -
and less reliable the results.

But -
I noted little that indicated
that such distinctions were of importance.
Should anyone wish to study these matters more deeply -
I can provide the spread sheet
with its 415 line (row) entries and thirteen columns.

I would send it to you as a Word document
and you can do the calculations there
as I did -
or import it into Excel or some other spread sheet
that allows such imports.

I have also now figured out
what I think is a relatively simple way
to handle the requests for
the Food Storage Calculator.
which comes as an Excel file
(you need to have the Excel program).

If you want the food calculator
send an email to:

DawnSayer@webpal.org

with the subject as:

food calculator request

If you want Jean's directions for the SOL.

www.webpal.org/SOL/

send an email to:

Jean@webpal.org

with the subject as:

SOL request

and we will send it to you
in a Word .doc attachment

If you happen to want both -
then send two separate emails.
These will go into separate folders
and after a short time for collection
I will send out two mass bcc emails
with the appropriate attachments.

Several people asked why
I did not put the spoiled cans of food
into the compost pile.

Shane explains it best:

Excellent advice that needs to be emphasized at every opportunity.

Botulism is so extremely deadly, it must be suspect in any bulging cans
and needs to not only be discarded, but where no one else will get into it.

Botulinum toxin is the most lethal substance known to man, as seen here...
http://www.bt.cdc.gov/training/historyofbt/05botulism.asp

With food in short supply some may be tempted to open suspect cans
to better inspect the contents before fully rejecting it, often by
smelling it.

People need to know that even a single small whiff of Botulinum toxin
can kill you stone dead in a few paralyzing minutes, it's truly that deadly.

Please tell all at every opportunity to never fool with any suspect cans
and to dispose of them as if a live grenade where none other will either.

My concern is that while most all know to throw away bulging food cans,
when food is in short supply some will begin buying and using whatever
old cans they can find and be eager then not to waste anything, too, thus
some will also be tempted then to start opening suspect bulging cans to
better inspect the contents before just rejecting it all, and oftentimes by
smelling it.

One good whiff and they can fall over dead, it's that potent and lethal.

Appreciate all you are doing getting all this important news out to folks!

On top of that -
it was my grandson that was helping me with it -
and although we were wearing gloves
I wasn't wanting him to touch the stuff.

Daily -
we are blessed with many miracles.
Life itself is a miracle -
but I want to tell you just how miraculous
some of the events seem to us.

This afternoon Jean came home from her art class -
and had picked up the mail from the corner box.

As I was opening it
I was reporting to her on an idea
that she had in the morning -
of our doing ozone service with our units
for people who have mold or odor problems.

I had composed an ad
for the local paper -
but they required it be paid in advance
and I told her that I didn't know a source
for the money to put the ad in.

I had called hydro earlier in the morning
to postpone our electricity payment -
because we couldn't cover that.

At the very moment we were discussing all this
I opened one letter -
and there fell out a $200 check.
Totally unexpected.

We both stopped in astonishment.
Sometimes anyone
can recognize a miracle
when they see one!

We greatly thank both the Lord -
and the giver of the gift.

Many churches and organizations
are having Religious Unity gatherings
this month .

I want to pass on about one
in Provo Utah -
that was told about in Utah newspaper.

Provo is near and dear to Jean's
and my hearts
because we were on the first group's
Local Spiritual Assembly there.

People of all faiths gathered Thursday night to pray and learn about one
another's faiths in the Provo Tabernacle for Utah Valley's National Day of
Prayer celebration.

The keynote speaker for the night was Mona Heern, who spoke of her
experiences with religious intolerance in Iran.

"My family experienced a lot of persecution there, and it still continues,"
she said.

Heern grew up in the largest minority faith in Iran, Baha'i. The Baha'i were
among the first people to be attacked in the 1979 revolution, and Heern was
forced to leave school at the age of 8 because of her religion. The Baha'i
were no longer allowed to attend school, teach school, hold positions of
power or work in certain jobs. Instead, Heern said she attended secret
underground schools taught by Baha'i teachers who were no longer allowed to
work.

Heern said her father went to work one day and never came back. For seven
months, the family searched from prison to prison to find him, and were only
given visitation rights after 10 months. Even then, Baha'i families visiting
their loved ones were forced to arrive at the prison once a month at 7 a.m.
and wait until 4 p.m. for 10 minutes of visitation. One day, the family
waited for hours to visit her father, and when it was their turn Heern's
mother presented the visitation card to the guard.

"This man looked at the card and he just started laughing and laughing,"
Heern explained, saying she could never forget his laugh.

"Why didn't they tell you?" he asked. "We killed him a month ago."

After her father's death, Heern's mother sold all her jewelry to escape the
country, fearing for the safety of her children. The family was smuggled
into Pakistan in the middle of the night and spent years as refugees before
moving on to Germany.

Despite all the struggles her family went through, Heern said she wanted to
make the point that there are good people everywhere, including good people
of other faiths who helped her family along the way.

Heern is now a teacher in Salt Lake City, and she said her students often
ask if she wants to return home. Heern tells them that she could not be who
she is if she were to return.

...The world is becoming a global village, and people cannot close their
eyes to other cultures anymore, she said. Heern said she believes her
message is especially important to residents in Utah Valley, because many do
not know who the Baha'i are or about much of the religious persecution in
the world.

"To me, the root of prejudice is ignorance," she said.

The theme of the night was "From Tolerance to Love," which Chaplain Linda P.
Walton of Utah Valley State College, chairwoman of the event, said implies
that there must be more than just tolerance for other religions.

I am very grateful
for the many Mormons that we know.
At least four of the Ark Two TEAM Leaders are Mormons.

There teachings contain things
that we feel are very much
related to the Baha'i Teachings.
The following is a very beautiful scripture
from the Book of Mormon:

NE2 29:10 Wherefore, because that ye have a Bible ye need not suppose that
it contains all my words; neither need ye suppose that I have not caused
more to be written.

NE2 29:11 For I command all men, both in the east and in the west, and in
the north, and in the south, and in the islands of the sea, that they shall
write the words which I speak unto them; for out of the books which shall be
written I will judge the world, every man according to their works,
according to that which is written.

NE2 29:12 For behold, I shall speak unto the Jews and they shall write it;
and I shall also speak unto the Nephites and they shall write it; and I
shall also speak unto the other tribes of the house of Israel, which I have
led away, and they shall write it; and I shall also speak unto all nations
of the earth and they shall write it.

NE2 29:13 And it shall come to pass that the Jews shall have the words of
the Nephites, and the Nephites shall have the words of the Jews; and the
Nephites and the Jews shall have the words of the lost tribes of Israel; and
the lost tribes of Israel shall have the words of the Nephites and the Jews.

NE2 29:14 And it shall come to pass that my people, which are of the house
of Israel, shall be gathered home unto the lands of their possessions; and
my word also shall be gathered in one. And I will show unto them that fight
against my word and against my people, who are of the house of Israel, that
I am God, and that I covenanted with Abraham that I would remember his seed
forever.

---------
Why I decided to put all this
into today's newsletter
is that we have just received
some terrible news from Iran.

All the national Baha'i leadership there
has again been arrested.
The government swept into their homes and took them away.

The last two times this happened -
they were all killed.

Anyway -
I hope that you will read the whole story
in this Iranian news source

http://www.payvand.com/news/08/may/1151.html

and other MSM if you search for it.

Peace and love,
Bruce
