Sacramento Bee -- March 26, 2008 -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said it would be a "big mistake" to blame illegal immigrants for the state's looming $8 billion [now $17 billion] budget problem.

Facing a budget deficit that is at least $17 billion and growing, California Governor Schwarzenegger has taken the drastic step of proposing to cut more than 36,000 families headed by illegal aliens or drug felons off the CalWORKS welfare program. Under CalWORKS, a single parent family receives about $525 in cash per month. This is in addition to other programs such as food stamps, Medi-Cal, welfare to work, child care and public housing. Some critics call the grants “walking around money.”

The free fall of the budget mirrors the decline in California home prices that saw a whopping 26% decline in February, or a rate of $2,788 per week. Home prices in Los Angeles-Long Beach-Santa Ana fell more than 20% in the first quarter.
Schwarzenegger is proposing to borrow another $15 billion by using state lottery money as a source of repayment, a clear violation of the law that created the lottery.

If voters reject his idea, which is likely, the governor says sales taxes might have to be raised by an added 1% to total 8.25%, and in some cases as high as 9.75%. California already has the highest sales tax rate in the nation.

“This meltdown of California is so severe the liberal media don’t even want to talk about it because they are afraid of the questions it raises.” said Glenn Spencer of AmericanPatrol.com .

has finally come. I had an arguement with a elementary school Principle years ago when I went to make sure they weren't teaching PC correct homosexual materials to my children before I let them go to the school.

We then went into illegals and had a heated arguement. She said NO child would be denied an education. I said MONEY DOESN'T GROW ON TREES. I said someday this State was going to go broke supporting millions of illegals who weren't paying in. I asked her where she would then stand if it came to giving her children an education and excluding illegals or if she would go for no one being able to afford one.

As things get worse, and they will, a lot of California "liberals" are going to be changing their minds. Too bad it will be too late for the once richest American State that squandered it's funds in doogooderism in the face of logic.

Similiar to those who want MORE wars when we are already broke.

It angers me that with every job I have gotten, I have had to prove that I am in the US legally and authorized to work here. I was born here. I'm a US citizen, and yet I'm treated like a criminal; and so it angers me to go through that and see so many illegals openly working in jobs that US citizens would be in. There is absolutely no way that the employers don't know they're illegal.

You're completely correct. This has also been my experience, as well. So, how can we pressure governments to pass and enforce laws that would close down businesses (all businesses) who hire illegals?
