And most homes in Oregon don't have central A/C. Nor do most of the hotels have A/C in the rooms (curious but true). There's a nice modern rest area out hwy 26, about half way between PDX and Seaside, where I used to go when it was hot like that. I'd park there, and take a sleeping bag down one of the nearby hiking trails. I'd toss the bag down and have a nice sleep. Temp was normally in the upper 70's there when PDX was in the 90's. Yeah, I had to sleep in the day-time, but I could live with that.

Now I have central A/C in my home, and even if I moved back to PDX, I'd insist on a house that had it. in the PNW you hardly ever need A/C. But when you do, by gawd you DO.

Hope some of that nice warm weather comes this way, we had a frostwarning night before last, and last night went down to just plus 37F or about 3C.
Spread some of that global warming around huh!

You are sure right. I worked as a desk clerk for a number of years in a really nice motel in Lincoln City on the coast but they had no AC. Mainly because temps. rarely go above 70°. Today it is 90° + on the coast so people running there to cool down are in for a big shock!

Yes...last September we took a vacation (to a very nice motel in Lincoln City, LOL, and oceanfront but up on a bluff) and it was really uncomfortable at times - it was in the mid to high 80's all week and we had a very hard time getting the room cooled off, even with the breeze coming off the ocean and even though they provided us with a big fan. The first couple nights especially it was just to warm to sleep - it would be hard to justify AC because that ALMOST never happens on the coast, but when it does you sure wish you had it.

I am extremely thankful that we have window units both at work and at home.

Thank God that here in Portland there's only a few times a year when the nights do NOT get cool enough to open the windows and crank the fans. Even with this mid-90s day temps, it's still forecast to get down in the high 50s and low 60s at nights.

Although it's times like these that I eye those Seattlelites to the north with more than a little jealousy, because Puget Sound contributes a lot to moderating their temperatures in both directions.

We're just plugging along.
You can say that again, sheesh, 4 days ago I was wearing my winter coat and today its t-shirt and roasting.

Hmmmm.....Lincoln City...oceanside, on a bluff...The Ester Lee?? :)

Yeah, 'officially we're at 97 in Roseburg, but my dial says we cracked 100...so much for Oregon's 'wet weather' rep, eh?

If I wanted 90+ degree weather, I'da moved to Palm Desert...

Yes indeed...I thought a person or two might recognize it from the description.

I absolutely love that place; it's pretty much become our exclusive vacation destination. With that view, what more could a person want?

Whew. Just came in from working in the garden. It's 83 degrees out there.

It was only hitting the high forties last week.

The high in Salem (closest big city) today was 99*.

Keep in mind that just three days ago it was 60*.

U-u-u-u-u-u-gly. I set up the slip-n-slide for the littles and hubby installed the window air conditioners. I don't mind warm weather, but I'd like at least a little build up to the heat!

Weatherman this morning said it was a HUGE pressure system that extended all the way to the mid-section of the country. We had winds from the southwest and were a tad cooler than the previous two days. Still, it was around 80 degrees. Good day to take out the sofa cushions and beat the crap out of them with a tennis racket. I also sprayed them with lysol and then dried them in the hot sun.

Next time it gets too hot, we may have to go to the local trailer park and hook up the rv and live in it for a few days. It has AC.

Sea-Tac reached 83 today but did not break the record of 84 from 1985
Find that hard to believe as I'm a stone's throw from there and we saw at least 85 today (after subtracting possible heat from the house affecting the temp gauge).

Good Evening from the First Alert Storm Center

What a day! The north Coast cooked in triple-digit heat with Seaside hitting 105, Pacific City 103 and Tillamook hit 101. In the valleys, Portland hit 92 at the airport and 96 downtown. All of these are new records for the date. The Coast will cool 40-degrees! tomorrow as cooler southwest winds kick in and fog and low clouds develop. In the valleys we should be slightly cooler but still around 90. Sunday brings further cooling with valley highs around 80. Temperature next week bottom out in the mid-60s Tuesday with scattered showers. After that we go into the sunshine after morning cloud routine with highs near 70.

Have A Great Weekend,

Bought this house May 2005, one of the 1st things we did was put in the biggest best Trane heat pump to cool it off in the summer. Set at 72. Works very well. Godsend. Planted over 300 trees, starting to shade the house a bit in summer. Already a bit of a jungle. Give it another year, won't be able to even find the house :)

Weather has changed, much less rain, much hotter and drier in summer. Just miserable, have to have AC.

I water my yard a LOT. This year had to start in February. It takes 3 years to establish saplings, 5 years for a transplanted large tree. Been 2 years 4+ months since first batch planted. So another year; after next summer I can relax a bit. Now, I spend my entire life working on the yard.

After living in Vegas for 7 years.....the 90 some degrees it was here in portland was nothing......

Walk in the park really.

In Vegas its so hot that you literaly try not to be outside for longer than a minute at a time.

Running from AC to AC.

It was kinda funny here on the NW coast of California .... the day before, the forecast was something like 77 degrees ..... all through the afternoon I was sweating like a stuck pig and thinking, "this seems like it's more than 77 degrees. But maybe I've become climatized to 60 degree weather, and have become a hot weather wimp!"

Then I checked the weather again online .... the new forecast was 92, right here on the coast, after the fact .... the forecast had just been updated.

SungodRa - Give it a few years, you'll be whining about 80 degree weather before you know it!

That, and once you start saying things like "I've NEVER seen weather like this since I moved here!" (practically no matter what it's doing outside), then you'll know you've been converted.

45 here on the Ar/Mo border this a.m. on my digital thermometer. After the floods and cold weather we've been having I'm just getting my garden in. It's the latest garden ever. I figure some things will get it by frost this fall before it's done.
