I am sure in the past we have discussed this before. But as I watching a movie this began to bother me. I was wondering if it bothers you?
The backward American Flag is now becoming part of police, fire and first responder uniforms throughout the country. This is largely due to their support of the troops and their effort to appear more "military."
The backward American Flag added to the Army field uniform on February 3rd of 2005 by the Secretary of the Army, General Peter J. Schoomaker, United States Army Chief of Staff, under Regulation 670-1 (chapter 28, Wear and Appearance of Army Uniforms and Insignia, which authorizes the wear of the reverse: side full-color U.S. Flag cloth replica on utility and organizational uniforms on a permanent basis).
The regulation states that when authorized for application to the proper uniform the American flag patch is to be worn, right or left shoulder, so that “the star field faces forward, or to the flag’s own right. When worn in this manner, the flag is facing to the observer’s right, and gives the effect of the flag flying in the breeze as the wearer moves forward.
The backward American Flag is referred to as the "reverse" side flag by the military. These photos clearly show there's no true American Flag present on the left shoulder. Why on earth would they automatically include a backward American Flag on the uniform when there is a perfectly good spot open for the real American Flag?
