How timely. I am in the FL panhandle. Just 10 minutes ago I walked outside for a smoke and there was a hummingbird at the end of my walkway either feeding or trying to feed on a canna-lily.
I had a hummingbird in my plum tree two days ago. I put out the feeder, but noticed it was empty last night.....probably a leak in it. Have to get a new feeder this weekend.
Our hummingbird feeder went up a couple of weeks ago. There was a hummer on it the first day, and after a couple of days, we saw a Baltimore Oriole doing his best to get into it. Now we have a hummingbird feeder and an oriole feeder. I'm delighted to report that the oriole pair decided to stick around and build a nest.
It's funny, we were told that there are no orioles up here (yeah, I spelled it right this time ). but it took him about 10 minutes to find the bowl of jelly, eat half, then take off to tell his ten thousand oriole buddies where to find food.
Still waiting to see a hummer, but we're pretty far north.
