WOW! NEW DOOMER BOOK JUST CAME OUT.

Its every bit as good as The Patriots or Alas, Babylon. And with the way things are going lately I am not sure but its more ahead of the curve.

Its called THE ASTEROID CONSPIRACY By Reba Strauhs. You can order it at http://WWW.lulu.com//en/buy/. You can also download it for $5. Its a real grabber.

I couldn't get your link to work so I searched by author name:

The "preview" feature wouldn't let me go any further than the first page of the prologue, which I was a bit underwhelmed by. I'm pretty wary of self-published books (a few gems exist, but for the most part there's a REASON they can't find a publisher).

Can you give me an honest evaluation of the skill of the writer? Even a really good underlying story will irritate me to no end if it's not told competently and professionally, and I usually just give up. I love doomer books in general, but don't want to sink money into one if it's not up to publishing industry standards.

Thanks, Hansa. I think I'm going to pass on the book. It would take about two minutes of reading sentences like these to make me throw the book across the room.

"He glanced slightly at the four ex-army rangers, who abandoned the site with them." (Glanced slightly?????)

"The term "them" made the general wonder again, exactly who the hell "them" was." (I have to wonder, again, why people can't get their comma usage right.)

No offense mean, Taz, I do appreciate the heads up, but I do some writing myself and it's just impossible for me to ignore stuff like this.

Thanks Taz & Hansa - the book looks interesting. I don't like reading lots of text on a computer screen - so I'll probably do the hard copy. I'll let you know what I think after I read it.

For those who want to preview the book, you can go here, the text starts at page 8 (the rest is title page and acknowledgments, etc).

The correct main link for the book on lulu is here:

Chartreuse....that copy that you read was from a rough draft manuscript from a guy who was going to publish it. She pulled it from him but he still has it out there.
I give you my word that it is a well written book. I too am fussy. My only criticism of it is that in the first chapter, where she is setting the scene, I found it a little awkward. But after that...hang on. It WILL GRAB YOU!! LOL I enjoyed it every bit as much as Patriots and Alas, Babylon. Don't be turned off by it being on Lulu. Everyone has to start some place with a first book. It will soon be at Borders and Amazon. She will soon be coming out with a second book but its not a doomer book. Its a mystery,

I wouldn't be worried about a book being published by Lulu.

The "traditional" publishing houses don't take "doomer" fiction seriously.

I'm with Chartreuse. You only get to sample one page and that one page has too many questionable things that bother me for me to want to read further. I'll wait and see if a major publisher picks it up and gets an editor for the author.
