Obama Apologizes for "Bad Habit"

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. — Barack Obama apologized Wednesday to a Michigan TV reporter after he called her “sweetie” and dodged her question about autoworkers.

WXYZ-TV’s Peggy Agar shouted a question to the Democratic presidential candidate during his appearance at a Chrysler LLC plant in this auto-making suburb of Detroit. Agar asked Obama what is he “going to do to help American autoworkers.”

“Hold on one second, sweetie,” Obama replied. “We’ll do a press (availability), thanks.” He did not reply to Agar’s question.

On the air later Wednesday, the station played a voice mail message Obama left for Agar. In it, Obama apologized for not getting back to her. He also told her he has a bad habit of calling people “sweetie.” Obama then said: “I mean no disrespect, so I am duly chastened on that front.”

Can't you just see the Queen of England reacting to "Sweetie"?

I too am no big fan of Obama, but when PC comes back to bite someone from the PC crowd...I find it FREAKIN' HILARIOUS!!

We have an economy in the shitter, illegal immigration up the ying yang, unsecure borders, budget crisis, corruption abounds, people are paying almost FIVE FREAKIN' DOLLARS AT THE PUMP, healthcare is a joke, poor people are getting poorer, cats living with dogs...

...and we want to wring our hands over what most normal human beings consider a TERM OF ENDEARMENT!!!

Dear God, get me off this planet before I go nuclear.

I'm more concerned that he ducked the question.

BTW it doesn't bother me to be called things like that, unless it's in a sarcastic tone. And I call people "sweetie", honey", etc. a lot.

Freebird gets it!!! Didn't he expect such a question from such an audience? Why wasn't he prepared? What is a "press availability"? A written statement? A controlled response? Or will that question just be dismissed in the aftermath of the "sweetie" comment? BTW, if this is a habit for him, how come its never been mentioned before? Is the MSM developing some PC awareness or was it just because the reporter took umbrage at dissing of their own?

Or Nancy Pelosi?
When he whispered in Hillary's ear after the debates, reckon he called her Sweetie?:lkick:

No big deal to me, but there are allot of women out there who take total offense to the honey and sweetie thing. My Mother is one of them. She says it is condescending.

I think that for a man to call a professional woman 'sweetie' and then dismiss her question has a lot more of a subtle message behind it than just a 'term of endearment' and the PC crowd.

If he hadn't already had such a problem with his lack of sensitivity by referring to his grandmother as 'typical white person' and such - I would just shrug it off too.

But with him having never campaigned in Michigan for the primary and now that he is here and he shrugs off an incredibly important question like that and calls the reporter 'sweetie' - I think this guy is a real piece of work.

Would he have called a man 'sweetie'?

I know that reporter very well and she is a top notch professional and it is insulting to speak to her like that and brush off her question.

Not just the reporter - but the voters in Michigan he is hoping to get deserved the apology.

I'm inclined to agree with you.

Puts me right off him.

Surprise, I'm with your Mom. Having spent most of my life working with men, I really resent being called "sweetie". It changes the conversation into something else. Big lack of respect. Maybe ok for girls under the age of 10, but not for adult ladies.

I agree. And as the daughter of a 1970's liberated feminist, I dont mind it at all when people call me sweetie or honey or doll.....whether man or woman (older waitresses seem to do this alot to me!) I think it is charming and endearing....as long as it is not in a sarcastic manner.

Reminds me of a scene from Fatal Instinct:

-- Lawyer: ' Mrs. Ravine, may I call you Lana?'
-- Defendant: ' Oh, please call me Angel Tits.'
-- Prosecution: ' I object!'
-- Judge: 'Sustain. Counselor, you will address Angel Tits as Mrs. Ravine.'

I thought he came across as dismissive which concerns me more than what he actually said.

He is a tool. His Harvard was showing.

Perhaps - but this is Michigan and the women in Michigan have fought long and hard against the good ole boys club to be seen as equals in the professional realm and the pres wanna be just served himself up a whole lot of trouble in these parts.

My 'cconspiracy theory' mind is running on overtime. How is this for a CT?

The Clinton's knew that Hillary, on the surface, would be hard off surface over her past. But put her up against an even MORE liberal opponent and Hillary starts to look really good.

Now - let the drama play out as far as it can go and then play the card that will doom Obama's campaign - much like the YEHA that doomed his predecessor Dr. Howard Dean. I just wonder what that card is going to be.

Hillary will look really good then. If this is what happens - then the planners of this campaign really are brilliant. Hillary looks like the underdog and all her baggage looks small in comparison to Obama's radical agenda.

Doooooooooom !
Just yet ANOTHER example of Obama shuckin and jivin' his way out of answering YET ANOTHER question...

Surely , I am not the only one that notices this?

HE can NEVER answer questions without dancing his way around them...

I personally smell a big rat ...

At first, before all this election stuff .. I thought he seemed pretty intelligent , and possibly a capable person for office.... But since seeing , and hearing him throughout this election , I have to say if he gets in office we are doooooooooomed !! lol

I feel so hopeless about this election ...

I really hope that if all we get period are McCain , Obama , and Hillary .... that Hillary wins over Shemp and Larry .. lol

At least I know we won't be in constant war , we won't be giving amnesty to all the illegals that want it ,we won't be having even more racial divide with the subject of reparations coming up..(which you KNOW it will if Obama gets in office) , that we won't cater to Muslims and possibly find out Obama really IS a Muslim... and that at the VERY LEAST under Hillary , that our economy will get better...

Praying that a viable 3rd party comes forward soon , or that Ron Paul steps it up a notch after these primaries and does SOMETHING...

I honestly think that a third party will step up sometime in August. Enough time to campaign but not enough time to be the object of the news media destruction machine.

The scary thing is that the third party may actually be the WORST one of all but we are all so desparate that we will vote for ANYONE else.

The only problem with that is that Hiliary doesn't have enough delegates so she can't be nominated. If the superduper delegates decide against the numbers and nominate her anyway then the whole thing will blow up in her face as a racial issue. It will make the Florida hanging chad issue look like a picnic.

Wanna hear my theory? I'm gonna tell you anyway! :) I think that Billy-boy absolutely positively does not want Hilary to be president. How can a man who is so deft at the english language screw up so many times while he is campaigning for her? My guess is that he will divorce her shortly after she loses and hook up with someone who will cook and clean and take care of him.

Obama will be nominated and may win the election because the "feel good" crowd cares more about kumbaya crap than issues.

I hope you are wrong - but okay - one CT deserves another! LOL

As for Obama and the 'feel good' crowd - it will all depend on the weather.
If it rains that day - they may be to busy dodging rain drops (not wanting to interrupt their free fall) and worms (not wanting any bad karma from killing a worm) to actually get off the couch they run off their mouths from and go and vote.

Once the get him 'nominated' they will feel vindicated and go back to their 'feel good' useless lives.

Sweetie is an endearing term used to address someone special or at least someone you know well. Using that word to a complete stranger while dodging an important question is just plain condescending IMHO.

When I got gas at the BP station today, the girl at the checkout counter, who appeared to be maybe half my age or less, called me "sweetie." When she said that, I found myself wondering just how old I looked to her. At least she didn't call me "gramps."

I'd take "sweetie" over "Maam" any day. When the hell did I go from "Miss" to "Maam"? And for that matter no asks me how old I am anymore when I buy beer.

Okay, now I'm depressed.

Obama has no use for women.
He was raised a Muslim, and abandoned by his mother so she could continue her carreer.........

Obama also pays his women 6k less than his men and far less than Hillary or McCain. http://www.timebomb2000.com/vb/showthread.php?t=286653

McCain, Clinton Pay Women Better than Obama

By Fred Lucas
CNSNews.com Staff Writer
April 30, 2008

(CNSNews.com) - Non-intern female employees did better working on the Senate staffs of John McCain and Hillary Clinton during the latest public reporting period than they did working for Barack Obama, Cybercast News Service determined through an analysis of payroll data published by the Secretary of the Senate.

Both McCain and Clinton also employed more female than male staffers, while Obama employed more males than females. However, Obama's staff was more balanced between male and female staffers than either McCain's or Clinton's.

Also, McCain and Clinton had more female than male staffers making six-figure salaries, while Obama had more male than female staffers making six-figure salaries.

The data were taken from the Report of the Secretary of the Senate, which covered the six-month period ending Sept. 30, 2007.

Only in the office of McCain, an Arizona Republican and his party's presumptive presidential nominee, was the average salary for women higher than for men. See Chart

On the staff of Clinton, a New York senator running for the Democratic presidential nomination, women outnumbered men by more than 2-1 and held most of the highest paying jobs, yet the average pay for women and men on Clinton's staff was almost equal. See Chart

A spokesman for Clinton's office, however, said that the salary averages calculated for her office by Cybercast News Service could be skewed because seven women and two men working on Clinton's Senate staff during the period in question were given additional compensation by her presidential campaign for outside work on the campaign.

The average pay for women who worked on the Senate staff of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama of Illinois was at least $6,000 below the average pay for men working on Obama's staff. This held true whether the average pay was calculated for all of Obama's staff, only for his non-intern staff, or only for his staff making more than $23,000 on an annual basis. Obama employed slightly more males than females.

I wouldn't see anything wrong with that statement, either.

Dang, I just don't get this PC crapola. :shr:

I visit with many customers daily. Some are women. I really do believe if I called them Sweetie it could cause problems. Some might find it offensive or even harrassment and report it to my superiors. I could loose my job over it. I guess when your the "elite" it doesn't matter?:shr:
