Home made ice cream maker

I saw one of these when walking thru a local store and brought back memories. And without torturing you all with my ancient (just hit the big THREE-O :) ) stories, I'm wondering if anyone in here makes their own, and what kind of machine you use? I saw some thing that looked like a modified hamster ball you fill up and give to the kids to throw around... not sure about that one.

We dont eat alot of it (maybe a gallon in a hot summer), but it would be nice to be able to prep it in the morning when I get home from work, and have something to go with dinner on the cheap. And I might eat more of it if it was a bit cheaper. Cheapest I see around here is about $6 for a 1gal bucket. Tho, the buckets are handy as heck.

Thoughts?

We treat our selves to homemade once or twicw a year. Can't beat the quality but itis cheaper to buy it. By the time you buy the ice, and ingredients, it does get pricey. fun factor is priceless.

Yeah, the fun factor is terrific.

ORANGE CRUSH SHERBERT
6 cans Orange Crush soda
1 small (the flat kind) crushed pineapple, drained
2 cans Eagle Brand milk

Pour it all in the ice cream machine canister. Don't even bother to stir it. It will mix as it freezes.

It will not be freeze solid.....remember that this is a sherbert. It will be slushy.
