5.2 Illinois

I think I felt this.... wondered what it was... like a small EQ in LA.... thought it was the wind... got up, but didn't see much tree limb movement outside in the streetlamp light... thought eq? here? Hmmm.... so now I guess it was... though downstate quite a ways... was faint upstate here in Illinois, surprised I felt it... actually, didn't feel it so much as noticed the vibration in the house upstairs... closet door, things on shelf.... standing still, I felt nothing. Oh well, there is a faultline that runs through there... maybe it connects with the New Madrid faultline?... Nice to know we aren't left out of all the 'action' here in the heartland.

Yeah, amen! That kind of Action I do not need. ;)

There's no way I could live on the West Coast and have to put up with these quakes all the time!! :ld:

It is all part of the NM zone, but the very northern tip. Yes, several faults thru S Illinois and S Indiana that have had some Huge EQ in past, granted hundreds or thousands of yrs ago for the really big ones.

I grew up about 20-30 miles as the crow flies from there on the IN side. Daddy said they had some porch collapses in the town I grew up in, but haven't asked him whose. He has some minor cracks in his house, but he didn't think they were anything to worry about.

That area is full of liquifaction zones on the IN side, don't know about the IL side.

Congrats t those locals who experienced a real decent quake, not one of those whimpy 3's or 4's that are one-tenth to one-hundred of what you just experienced.

I sure hope it's not a pre-quake to something bigger.
