Double Suicide Bombing in Dimona Commercial Center, Three Dead
by Ezra HaLevi

(IsraelNN.com) An explosion in the commercial center of the southern Negev town of Dimona Monday morning has killed three people and wounded at least five, ranging from lightly to moderately wounded.

Police say the blast was caused by two Arab suicide bombers, one of whome was not killed, but remains in critical condition.

It is likely that a terrorist or terrorists crossed into the Sinai from Gaza as the border lay open in recent days and then crossed into Israel over the lengthy and porous Sinai-Israeli border. Police are conducting searches in and around the town, as well as trying to prevent crowds from gathering at the bomb-site, fearing additional bombers.

Israeli intelligence warned that the open border was allowing terrorists from Gaza to prepare such attacks.

Dimona is located not far from the border, between Arad and Be'er Sheva. The area is heavily populated by Bedouin tribes, which have been increasingly involved in smuggling from Egypt to Israel.

At least three dead in Dimona suicide bombing attack

Multiple casualties were reported in a blast in a Dimona commercial center.

The police said the attack was a suicide bombing and said there may have been two suicide bombers.

The head of the Beersheba firefighting station told Israel Radio that at least three people were killed in the blast.

Magen David Adom ambulances were treating multiple casualties on the scene.

Rosa Elberg, a resident of the town said that the bomber detonated his explosives inside a café.

"It is like a war, people are running like crazy," she told Channel 2. "I didn't see anyone suspicious. I heard a boom and my ears are still ringing."

Another eyewitness told Israel Radio that many people were at the commercial center at the time because of the sunny weather.

The last suicide attacker to succeed in penetrating Israel and exploding himself was Muhammad Faisal Saksak, on January 29 in Eilat.

Three people died in that attack.

Looks like the middle east is about to really heat up again with the gaza border situation. Throw in Lebanon flaring up again on the north and you could have a repeat of 2006 but 10 times as bad.

If things "heat up" real bad this could be 100-to-1000's fold worse then the "1948 War" and the "2006 Israeli/Lebanon war" combined - and then some. ... Depends on how many countries become involved and if the war impacts the world's oil supply.

The fact this happened in Dimona is troubling.

Woman killed, 10 hurt, 1 critically in Dimona suicide attack

One woman was killed and ten people were wounded, one critically, one moderately and eight lightly, in a suicide attack in a Dimona commercial center.

Site of attack in southern Israel

Police said the attack was a suicide bombing carried out by two attackers, but only one succeeded in detonating his explosives. The other terrorist was killed by Kobi Mor, a police officer from an elite unit who happened to be on the scene, seconds before the bomber could detonate himself.

Magen David Adom ambulances evacuated the wounded to Soroka Hospital in Beersheba.

Rosa Elberg, a resident of the town, said that the bomber detonated his explosives inside a café.

"It is like a war, people are running like crazy," she told Channel 2. "I didn't see anyone suspicious. I heard a boom and my ears are still ringing."

Shalom Bar Avi, a journalist speaking to Channel 10, said "I am here no longer as a journalist but as a simple citizen ... I pray and hope my wife is okay."

Bar Avi praised the police's quick response to the attack, and said Mor, the officer who identified the second attacker shot "four or five times ... he took no chances."

Later Mor's heroism was revealed in detail: He shot the terrorist in the head, and when the latter in his last breath still tried to press the detonator button, shot him four more times and killed him. Mor managed to kill the terrorist before he could explode and without hitting his explosive belt, thus preventing a much more devastating attack.

A police officer speaking to Channel 10 praised Mor's quick response and said he acted "in the best possible way, all considerations taken into account."

The Jerusalem Brigades of Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attack, confirming in its statement that the attackers entered Israel through the Sinai, but several minutes later several organizations, including Hamas and Fatah, also claimed responsibility according to Channel 10......
