I'm enjoying the story, 'cept for a minor quibble: there's a bit of redundancy in the supper scenes. You described how the fish was fixed on the previous night, so there's really no need to repeat it for the second night. What caught my eye was the idea of letting the lard cool to re-use: "Yeah, we know he keeps his lard already!"

As to the whole story, "I wish....." :bwl:

RiJoRi: Yeah, I know...but you should have read it before the re-writes - talk about "redundant".

If that's the only thing you found wrong, I did pretty good with the re-writes!

"Roy thought he was even busier than when he was just surviving. He was right."

I suppose living in some type of comfort is w-o-r-k! :shk:

Is Roy gonna have some troubles? I ask because while carpenters say, "Measure once, cut twice," for me it's more like "Measure twice, cut three times!" so it seems unrealistic to me that his building is going up so easily. (Is there a "banged thumb" icon?)

Rich: Sorry, this is fiction. It's also a G-rated story, so I couldn't have him hit his thumb, and immediately get it an R rating!

It's not going up THAT easily, keep reading.

Thanks for reading!

Im not much of a critic when it comes to stories so bear with me. First off, like others here, I really am enjoying this tale. In fact I get exhausted just keeping up with him in my mind. LOL. Secondly I too wish to point out the redundantcies. It is apparent in my mind that this is to reinforce the concept of safety practices in these situations. Over all good job!
Finally, please do not take offence since I do not intend for any to be givien.
I personally am not a religious person. I respect those who are. I feel that simple references to specific scriptures would suffice rather than lenghty quotes.
Be that as it may, Im looking forward to the next installments eagerly.

Hi Flea Taxi
As always your stories are so real. I read North to Alaska last night and really enjoyed it.
Finished this one today....great sequel. I am hoping he gets one of Olivers pups for the winter....he needs a friend.

AEA: Thanks, these stories were originally written for a different audience, mostly Christian Survivalists with several people who were curious and seeking, so I included whole verses of Scripture throughout my stories. This is the last book that uses whole sections, so you won't have as much to read. One of my stories that is already posted here, Route 666, is really heavy on Scripture, but the subject matter is the End Times and the book of Revelation told from the point of view of a Christian man on the run from TPTB and trying to survive the Great Tribulation.

Of all my stories, these 3 (NTA, EFTRR, Route 666) are the most overtly religious. by the 1/3 mark, it tones down again for a while.

Good story

Good story Fleataxi. It wears me out just reading about all the work that man does in one day! I like the way you write, and I like that you have him reading his Bible and praying. This tells us a lot about the character.
I'm looking forward to the next chapters

Very good, but I've read it before. How many times has he read that Bible of his? Either he's a slow reader or he's trying to memorize it. I know what's coming next and can hardly wait.

Tom: He's applying what he's reading to his daily life, and sometimes we just need reminders. It's not like we're studying for a test - we're reading stuff that reminds us how much God loves us, no matter how bad we screw up, and if we accept his free gift, and let him run our lives instead of trying to run them ourselves, we get to spend Eternity with him.

Glad to see you posted more chapters today! I needed a rest from the BS.
I always cry at weddings! And my heart skipped a beat when I read that Anne screamed the same time Oliver leaped and Roy shot.....I was afraid to read the consequences re: Oliver, etc. Nothing like getting into a story....

I'll try to post every 2-3 days depending on read count. I like to add at least 100 reads between posts so I know everyone read the last installment before I post new stuff.

I wish we had a bigger word-count per post limit. Right now, it's set at 6,000 words per post. On some of my bigger stories, that's 1 chapter's worth!

Thanks!

Sorry I forgot to keep posting chapters.

What does it take to get people on TB2K to coment to my stories? over at Frugal's where I originally posted them, I'd get dozens of replies per chapter. Now it seems they're more interested in reading than posting.

This story is really good. It's refreshing to read something that shows the good in people instead of all the rotteness we hear about. Good work and thank you.
