If the economic warning signs are correct, you will all be faced with a tough decision as our family is right now. So this poll is to inquire, if TSHTF economically what will you do? Will you:

we're already bugged out to a rural area...and, as we are surrounded by gold and gold mining we're probably in the best position we could be to see how things develop locally.

One of the very major points of homesteading is to NOT have to bug out for situations like this. Where could I possibly take my family that we'd be better off than where we're at right now?

Major hurricanes, invasions, impending asteroid strikes, those are the kinds of things that I might run from, but not an economic depression.

I intend to stay put. I have moved to the best area I can find to ride out any crisis, even long term downturns in the economy and-or the instability of society related to a downturn or full scale uprising.

I have a garden and I live on a nice spring fed lake with potable water and edible fish and I have been fattening the squirrels....just in case:D

Good supply of MREs as well as a large supply of long term storagable foodstuffs such as Ramen.

The only thing I am short of is money but everything is paid for and debt is low. Fixed income from pension limits what I can save but in a long term event I have plenty of skills to barter.

Agreed...I bugged out to here in 2000. Now if can still afford to live here I'll be fine; otherwise, I'll still stay "here" but in a cheaper place.

I tend to put this poll up for those who are not in the "Stay put, I'm prepped" category as I'm sure that a majority of this board is in that boat. I'm in the fleixble situation myself where I could stay or ride this out in the country/rural areas.

I was more curious to see the status of our members relating to the economy rather than the standard TSHTF scenarios like viruses, earthquakes, martial law, etc.

But in the next poll I'm thinking about, that might just be an option... ;)

I can't answer your poll. That's because you're missing a whole bunch of options in your poll. It reads as if you made it up for your family, not for everyone on TB2k.

We saw what was coming years (more than a decade) ago and moved to a place that was safer. Then we spent a lot of our time and money on preps (preps means a lot more than just having "stuff" for emergencies -- it mostly means learning new skills and being mentally prepared for eventualities).

Look out into the countryside and the more remote places where people are currently living. Do you think, maybe, that they might be better prepared -- automatically -- than those in the more populated areas?

LOL, actually no, read my posting above. We designed our plans (we're not in a "major" metropolitan area) to stay if it's quiet and head to our place in the boonies if it gets serious. I designed the poll not so much for the hard core preppers, most of which have made their feelings known since I've been here. But those who say they are staying put and "riding it out" do only have limited preps. You are restricted by your income and ability to hold, or defend your property against those who would take your stash of goods away.

This poll is a split for those that lurk, but don't post commentary and those who are "newbies" so to speak. This nation is about to undergo a majore economic upheaval. I created this to see where the mindset of the membership is today.

I will repost a similar poll this fall......

money? whats that?
How about stay put, already prepped and ready, with a bug out location prepped for our arrival, if things start to go really bad?

I live up here in the Panhandle where the air is sweet and the water clean. Ivan cleaned out all the unprepared and taught me what is really important in an emergency situation where one can't depend on the lights to come on when you throw a switch:D

There are only 40,000 folks in the whole County and most of them are 30 miles South on the beach.

John, I'm like Fulltimer. We are in as good a location as we can be at this time. We have about a years worth of preps and pray that God will use and multiply what we have.

I read Todd's " plan B" with interest as we have no real back up and none to plan except escape to the hills with our camping gear to trails we are familiar within our immediate area, which would be a 'run for the hills last effort' for a short seasonal period of time. I felt a bit scared seeing how many were homesteading, except we know Jesus will get us through any situation.

Looking at the economic situation before us we are 'diversing our portfolio.' Right, we're getting out of the "system" as much as we can. Cashing in and paying off our debts. Prepping and planning in an uncertain future.

My CSR skills are prepped to the max and my regular preps are maxed to the prep theory. Meaning. I have fairly good preps, but if tshtf with the economy, I will be stealing from Mcdonalds food stash on my breaks....

Stay put and see how it goes locally. This area is the Apple capital of the planet. Plus, wine, pears, cherries, row crops and dairys. All we'd have to do is kick out the illegals and go to work on the farms, orchards, juice processors or as security workers. With major rail lines (thanks to TSherry), we can transport the goods around.

If it really got bad in the SHTF type, there are 100,000 boxes of apples a mile from my house. They last for a year or more because the storage building doesn't have any O2 in it.

PS. I don't eat but 1 apple a year. :groucho:

Of all the looming potential disasters to choose from out there such a nukes, EMP, earthquakes, tsunamis and bio-terror I'll take an economic disaster anytime.

Probably we'll take our chances with our local surroundings and people support we're familiar with. We aren't surrounded with fruit like Grantbo but we do have a lot of sugar cane here. (Along with crawfish, alligators, possums and squirrels)

I'm less worried about the economy in a crash scenario than the government's response. I'd make my bugout decision depending upon the latter. So, I'm in the wait and see category.

My answer was not offered in the poll. I will stay put as we are in a good place near the NC mountains. I will rely on God to provide for us. Not meaning manna will appear on our front lawn but rather He will show us how to live. He has never failed in the past and would not fail in the situation !

It really doesn't matter to us. We're already broke. Our preps are minimal. We have no where else to go--unless it's really bad and we have to pack up everything and move in with the In-laws.

All we can do is hang in there, do whatever it takes (work wise) to keep our noses just above the water.

Bugging out to rural areas only because we've already purchased a home in an area that is 40 years behind in their thoughts, actions and needs. Can't wait to get there full time! Right now we're still working at getting there, retirement needs to be there, some repairs need to be done, etc.

Even though I voted "Wait to see how the situation develops locally", I know I will stay where I am... I have no where else to go!

If TSHTF economically, I will do best where I am. My place is paid for, I have an established garden and fruit trees, and long term preps in the pantry.

You folks in the cities don't really think the folks already 'in the boonies' are gonna welcome you with open arms do ya? :lkick:

You better bring something valuable they need or be told w/predudice to move on down the road. If they can you might be given a jug of water and a sandwich...likely in exchange for some grunt work. Read the last Depression diaries..and those where the 'good ol days' with vastly different cultural attitudes.

Live off the land? Public land? Private land? :xpnd: :lkick:
You'd find better food sources in the urban rats and cats.

Me, I'm already pared down. Been so for 20+yrs. By gub standards I'm a coupla steps below the poverty level. Move? Nah..this ol body is half a step outa the dirt. So bugging in is already accomplished. hehe..closer to reality of becoming real 'bug' food any day than most of you. A forced move likely would do it. I'll prolly hang around in ghostly fashion and haunt..er..pray for you guys tho.

Folks with young kids? Better get your whatevers in gear..it's almost too late. At a minimum get your 'flexible' options and skills upgraded to reality. ;)

In general tho, I still have great faith in the American "Can Do" abilities to muddle thru almost any situation. Take for example the hurricaine and/or tornado events we see almost every year. The layoffs/job losses..heck even folks who suddenly lose everything, maybe even including their whole familes to whatever calamity. Yep..I have faith. Doom is not an option.

Ah upstate Ny in the vicinity of Kunstler and the mountains. Guess I'll face that situation when it gets here. To many levels of decision making to give a hard and fast answer. The idea of a breakdown coming in stages appeals to me. The first week...the second week...the first month...the next three months.... When the currency is no longer meaningful its going to shock people to the core. I don't want to do a BO under fire. Of course this is a basically rural area with a lot of overeducated exurbs who aren't into believing a crunch or oil shock is coming and will refuse to understand if it does. I can't fathom what they would do except shoot me in the back but I would get quite a few of them before that happened. Law and odor no doubt will go downhill right away. It may pay to have a good hunting rifle with a scope and a shotgun. Definitely a lot of goberment workers - cops teachers road crews - who won't be paid in gas food or anthing else for coming to work. I would put a sign on my front door....No Food, No Money, No Gas - Go To Helen Wait.

Ditto -- stay put with preps. I have been preparing for a deep recession/depression for the last several years on several levels, all the while hopeful that it won't get that bad. That's been my main worse-case scenario and a major reason I moved to Cols -- we have a highly diverse economy here with plenty of farms around the area. Unless we're hit by a suitcase nuke or taken over by rioting gangs, I think we'll be okay.

Given the number of c.c. permits that have been issued over the last year alone, I think it unlikely the gangs will get the upper hand for long in a SHTF situation.

Since it is spring, it is the time that I usually go back "Home" to the Deep Wilds!
Only this time with everything that is happening, this might be the time that
I will NOT be coming back. Yes I do think that with all the warnings happening,
if one wants to "Bug Out", this is the time to do so. Of course, we do NOT
know the time table, thinks could keep on going for a few months or years
But SOON it will ALL be coming down and once it happens then Watch Out!

Creator Bless!

It's probably close to 50,000 by now. Most gun owners I know do not want that permit because of the mandatory open-carry in the car. Which means that a whole lot of fire power awaits the gang-bangers if they decide to do something....

Couldn't vote, because you left out THE ONLY VIABLE OPTION!!
Which is:
Stay right where I am, with all my preps, family around the corner...(out here, around the corner is about a 3/4s of a mile away...shorter through the woods)..with people I know, and who are hunters and fishermen from birth. I have enough land to plant whatever I need, as well as feed a few others, 1,000 of acres of National Forest literally IN THE BACK YARD, and an established garden area, as well as a fattened deer herd that we have been feeding for 20 years.
Where else would be better??
