For no discernible reason I'm not as expectant or tense as I have been. The RNC was my personal worry, but so far nothing major has happened. In fact, I got a hoot out of seeing the Don King was there and supporting GWB. So I'm just watchful and waiting - but not with bated breath.

I raised my level to "watchful" +, as the terror in Russia/Israel seems to be heating up, Iran and NK still pi$$ing us off, etc. :scn:

Subsequent to the AQ influence exerted in Madrid, Afghanistan and Iraq, not to mention current arm bending in regards to the French... I anticipate election influencing behavior (terrorist attacks) from now through January 05. Particularly with the RNC and GWB's attendance there tomorrow. May God bless the USA! :usfl:

edited to add: Oh yeah, I'm glued to the news!

It is impossible read the radar with all the ground clutter on the board. Kind of like Pearl Harbor, the guys watching the radar thought the Japs were B-17s from the States.

Think I am still in the watchful area - but with things going on in Russia and the worldl I think it is just a matter of time. Thought the EAS drill helped me check my preps and get them a little more in order, and hopefully am just a little more prepared.

Expecting the worst any day now....but not tense :)

Most of the weather action is way south of me fortunately. One of the things on my mind is the coming winter. Looks like it might be something out of the Day After Tomorrow. Gotta rethink the cold preps. Better than being trapped on the coast by a cat 4/5 hurricane not knowing which way to run.

No riots at the convention is a bad sign to me. These guys 'hate' Bush, if they don't act it out there things will get more tense politically. The election itself will be a charade. Kerry seems all but out of the running, his "heroic" service in Vietnam killing him almost 40 years later.

Looking for a big brake in the economic bubble this fall. Steeply rising oil and gas prices. Another war premium when Bush is re-elected. The lame Demorats are going to do everything possible to sink the economy in the meantime - like the deck chairs aren't already awash. It's their only issue now

I'm sensing somekind of debacle coming. The bots are probably right. It could be off by a month but it will happen. Not that I trust bots btw.

Went from a bit concerned to watchful. As others have said, bombings in Israel, Russia, elections coming up, 9/11 coming up, holidays coming up, just feels prudent to be a little more watchful, and ALWAYS ready!

Last Monday I expected to find the absolute worst each time I visited TB2K. I'm talking about the the kind of sick anxiety feeling you get when you absolutely do not want to have to do a thing ... yet you must.

For no discernible, logical reason whatsoever - I do believe the "tip of the iceberg" bot information.

Nonetheless - I'm still at the merely watchful mode. Even though I am now armed everywhere I go.

Watchful, logic says it is due to possible hard winter this year. Checking preps, winterizing home. Gut feeling is board has got antsy, usually when that happens something major is going to happen.

I'm up to watchful, ready, and have already checked the preps.

We're under the gun for our second hurricane this season in less than a month so I'm more than normally preoccupied with the news and preps.

I 'm usually "watching, checking preps" but this week after getting over an severe illness, trying to start classes again, and the "excitement" on the board I'm down to a "bit concerned" because I don't have the energy for anything else. I highly doubt I'll ever go down to "not worried"no matter how weary I get.

Due to RNC I am watching TV more and checking TB more. After the next two days I will ease off until closer to elections then I will watch more carefully again.

I do think the terrorist are planning a strike sometime between today and the elections.

BTW, I heard on the TV news today Bush goes to NYC today. So they may have been holding off until he was there.

Also news said security is checking trucks as far away as 20 miles before they get to the city. IMO if they are going to strike convention time they are already in the city.

Things seem to be popping here, there, and everywhere, so I'm back up to watchful. But, I was thinking about it, and I don't believe my 'anxiety level' will ever go higher than watchful, no matter what disaster I'm in the middle of. Even if things go completely crazy, panic isn't going to help anything. I can't stay glued to the tube (computer or TV) because there are other things I have to do. And no matter what, I trust God.

Interestingly enough, as I have laid more preps in place, I have become somewhat less anxious. I think it is simply a case of not feeling that I am going to get totally caught with my pants down, so to speak. Also had thought something might occur at the conventions. Someone I work with, however, works with the local CERT, and they are fully expecting heavy attack in the few days just before the election. So take the poll again in late Oct, and ask me then. I am contemplating taking El day and the few days before off, rather than be trapped in my downtown skyscraper, 30 mlies from home.

My anxiety is at an all time high as the 5 day forcast for Frances puts it right over my house. But then, we are the fortunate ones. We are out of the area, fully insured, and have our lovely big RV. Only moved into the new home one month before we had to leave for Housten. So....the house is kind of like a dream that happened. But nevertheless, I have butterflys. The deal with Maiden didn't help as I was one of those who received her "death notice". Now today we have the mess in Russia. I think I need to up my prozac..lol.

I'm w/ Brer Frog on this - I've voted "watchful" on every poll, even if some polls see me not as watchful or more watchful. Right now, I am definitely more watchful, but am not "glued to the screen" level.

less concerned

I think as I build up preps I'm getting less concerned.

started out pretty concerned/watchful when didn't have too much water, fuel and food stored. After getting stocked up, anxiety level has gone down.

has gone down even more after i figured out DHS color alert levels are pretty much worthless, not like I give anything the Feds do much credance anyway.

been

very unconcerned for two months now, but was nervous as all get out for last two days,

course, yesterday, I was facing the Drop Zone at Wonderland after a 3 year haitus.

21 floor drop, free fall, in about 4 seconds or so. :D

still wondering though, if something is up

I'm glued, and apparently I'm not stuck there alone. I do notice that others who checked that box apparently don't want to talk about it, but I've a nasty habit of saying what I think. Between the RNC, the terrorist problems in Russia, and a multitude of other stuff, I've just got a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach that won't go away. Being as well prepped as possible isn't helping my anxiety level. There's this little voice that resides in innner space that keeps whispering that it isn't paranoia when the cop is at the door.

I'm like Jumpy Frog, watchful +. I checked glued because this week is when it finally went to "+"; no increase in tension but I think our number is coming up real soon.
Course, I've been sick this week, maybe that's it.

I'm glued- personal orange-this week has me on edge. If tomorrows last day of the RNC goes off without a hitch, I'l be happier-but then there 9/11 anniversary to think of...tho I anticipate our highest risk of a significant attack closer to the election in CONUS, I wouldnt be surprised to see offshore hits @ that date.

That being said- everytime I've worried about them being able to pull off an attack inside our borders since 9/11-Ive been wrong . Heres hoping I keep my record intact :)

I upgraded to watchful, ready & checking the preps. Now that I have finally gotten the good, but old stuff out the door and into someone else's hands who can hopefully use it, I am busy making new lists and pondering exactly what I need to fill in.
Finally realized how much I had that no one would eat (and knew better when I got it).
Now I am stressing about my DGD and family who moved to Florida in time for Charlie. Evacuated from Tampa area to Orlando area. Gee! No problems for them though. They are back home in Plant City and how are they supposed to know which way to jump? That is most stressful for me.
Also am coping with smoke from our fire on the peninsula which is actually 30 miles away and not moving much. But it does make one think about what they would do. This 9,000 acre fire down here and the over 6 mil acre ones up north have a lot of us stressed. You get to the place you expect almost anything.
Guess I am feeling that this is fall and time to prep for winter anyway.

I'm at "glued, expecting the worst", but hey, we TFPers usually are.

Mostly I attribute it to snapping back from 48 hours basically disconnected in the usual sense. I spent most of the weekend with a couple of my good friends in a town 60 miles away from here. The friend whose house we were staying at had screwed up dialup that was down all weekend, so I wasn't on the net at all from Friday evening at about 7 pm until Sunday afternoon about 5 pm. Also watched very little TV news - Hell, all they were talking about anyway was Kobe Bryant, Scott Peterson, and the convention. Not much to hold my attention. Aside from the fact that I was WAAAAY too close to the biggest metro area in the state, I wasn't too worried. Both the friends I was with are Majors in the Nat'l Guard and one is one of the first in the state to get called if anything's going down since he's the operations officer of an engineer battalion. Heck, I probably would've found out quicker than most anyone else eventhough I was offline most of the w/e.

U.S. refiners crude inventorys at five month low.gold and silver prices climbing. Fed must raise interest rates to finance the deficit. Global conflicts every where you look. Metals and concrete prices doubling and insurance companys losses reaching new highs. The only way out is war, a big one. What, me worry?

Well, it's still early in this poll series, but it's beginning to look like a pattern could be emerging. (Granted, going forward, we may find that there is no pattern at all to our madness.)

Right now, with THIS poll at 151 votes, the average is 1.9 (just below "watchful and ready").

Looking at Pete's graph, is it possible we could perhaps expect some fairly consistent spikes in anxiety every two months, then gradually dropping off till the next spike??? Of course there would also be some seasonal adjustments, I'm sure, as well as the occasional historic event that might interrupt the cycles?

Just hypothesizing. Time will tell.

No worries, Mate!
It's all under control......if you believe in God! Short term.....could be very different though. I've been considering taking additional preparations. But haven't yet.

Just because you asked, IMHO.

Not necessarily glued but definitely expecting the worst in the next day or so. I have been checking/scanning TB & TT every 30-45 minues or so between chores. Laundry/dishes/dinner doesn't even stop for a major catastrophe so let me get back to it.
P.S. - I do pray that I find nothing more than this poll when I check back.

If the scale were numbered 1-5 instead of asking questions, my answer has always been a "3". This week however, it went up to "4". Not sure why. Can't put my finger on a reason, but my anxiety level has definitely jumped in the past few days....

There seems to be something wrong with the way the poll is weighted. You have a tremendous anxiety in the form of a hurricane heading toward the u.s. and the poll is hardly showing any increase. And that means a huge economic bust for a whole area of the country....and yet the poll isn't responding.

 I don't get it.

ok Claudia, i'll admit i just voted glued. highest for me yet, with all others being a bit concerned. for me it's a combo of the tonight's events at the RNC, the current events in Russia and elsewhere, all the reports of videotaping and probing going on in the US, and the home stretch to November.

asteroids? nope.
alien invasion from 1000 ly away? nope.
false flag events perp'ed by the Vice President? nope.
rolleyes.gif

stuff on the same page as the kind of stuff that nobody was talking about on 9/10/01? yep!
the gaping holes on our northern and southern borders? yep!

As of right now, North runner, with 167 votes in, we are at 1.93--which would be the highest point we've measured to as of yet. I think I understand what you mean (tell me if I'm wrong) ... in that the relative averages don't show that much swing ... from a low of 1.65 to the present high of 1.93.

A couple of thoughts:

- the hurricane, as awful as it likely will be for folks in Florida, has minimal immediate relevance to most board members. Yet, those who ARE impacted will likely be a major factor in pulling up the average for this poll, albeit only a relatively slight uptick on the overall scale.

- since the first poll, two-and-a-half months ago, there really haven't been any epic-level developments/events in our greater reality. In my view, the 0-4 scale has not really been tested. And given the fact that we are usually measuring a sample of a couple hundred people from around the country and even from around the world, in all varieties of personal circumstances, it is safe to say that we will never reach even a near-consensus view of either being a time of a total worry vaccuum (say an average of .5) or a maximum universal-anxiety kind of environment (maybe a 3.5). Therefore, although we allow for the expression of those extremes by individuals, a more realistic range for our averages would be expected to stay between, say, 1 and 3 (even in the event of some very serious calamities of wide-spread impact). JMO.
